Compare New Micro Compact vs Original: S&W Equalizer vs Sig P365 XL

  • In this review, we compare the bigger brother of the original micro compact to the newest entry in that segment. It is the Sig Sauer P365XL in 9mm and the new Smith & Wesson Equalizer in 9mm. Both are Optics ready and can hold up to 15 rounds in their biggest magazine. The Equalizer is the higher capacity successor to the M&P Shield EZ and the P365-XL is the bigger version of the original 9mm SIG P365.

    I can say that I have no grip or hand strength issues whatsoever and love the concept of the 30% decrease in slide pull. The equalizer is a game changer. This will be my new EDC especially with the new optics cut slide. Smith and Wesson Equalizer for the win!

      I may steer my girlfriend in that direction. For her first firearm. I let her shoot my hellcat pro and she did ok but the slide was tough on her and the recoil was tough on her

      Lol. My point to that statement was that this gun isn’t just for girls or people with grip issues. It’s a solid smith and Wesson EDC for anyone. But I’m sure your girlfriend probably will line it also. Lol.

      I can’t understand why ANYONE would complain about an easier to rack slide. There is no downside. The fact that some people need an easy racking slide is inconsequential

    Modern grip safeties are so easily used that I can't understand why so many people hate them. They're less intrusive than having to use a manual safety

    • @cheesepuff7814
      @cheesepuff7814 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because it's an extra safety that does nothing other than add more parts to fail. The only safety you should have is your finger that pulls the trigger. If you can't control your trigger finger, you need more training. If you need safety buttons on your gun, to feel secure or you're afraid of an accidental discharge you need MORE training. If you cannot trust yourself to be safe with a gun that has arguably two or more safety features, before you fire, you need more TRAINING.

      @@cheesepuff7814everything about training is accurate. However it’s marketed towards new shooters , older folks, and women. Statistically speaking, these groups are most likely to accidentally drop, engage trigger etc. should it happen? No, but it’s an additional layer to prevent a mistake from becoming a life altering mistake for groups who may not have the time and desire to excessively train into excellence. I would consider myself a rather seasoned shooter and own many micro 9s of todays market, and I love the ez/equalizer line and the grip safety is not noticed at all and isn’t an issue in my
      Mind

    I still don't understand why every body says that the EZ and Equalizer are ideal for people with weak hands but if you have full hand strength the shield plus is a better option. I find this pistols are an excellent EDC option for some body that likes and are used to 1911. With two safeties are a very safe and slim alternative for AIWB and have a very nice single action triger and on top of that enough real state and weigh to have good recoil control.

      @SilverNine89 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@edwinchandeck7231 If you noticed a lot of the complaints when this pistol was announced, you would learn that this good is good for people with weak hands. But for regular gun people, it caused a debuff, -999 Machismo, or something. Haha. I mean, it was the same when the Walther PDP F came out. People were so upset that it targeted women, you know, the other 50% of the population. The thing is, if you're a guy and the F works well for you, then good! Who cares who it's marketed towards and how it's labeled.
      First, options are good for everyone. Second, what matters if function, right? These functions for people with hand mobility/reduced strength issues had no impact on the shooting performance of the Equalizer. So I don't see how that is negative. It's a win/win situation.

    You can also use the Maggutz spring, follower and baseplate on the P365XL and get two more rounds in the mag. A 14 round mag is pretty compelling. You can also use the Maggutz on the P365 changing a 10 round mag to a 12. The P365 frame with the XL slide and barrel is a lot of fun.

    I bought an Equalizer for wife and she loves it. She has smaller hands and can handle this pistol much better than the prior sig and it's accurate. I put a red dot on it and the co-witness sights make a big difference. I do feel the trigger could use a little betterment, but nothing that would change her using it. The recoil is much better than the sig ad well. Would recommend for first time shooters or those who have strength issues.

    Finally, the "EZ" gets a couple of very good upgrades. I've handled one, and appreciate those much improved serrations. Some of the best around. And the choice of three magazines, so to conceal best, or add three more rounds for a minimal length increase, or have the largest magazine for range use. The magazines are said to be interchangeable with Shield Plus too. It would have been nice to have options of fiber optic and/or night sights. The included Uplula is actually better than the old style easy tiny loading assist pegs. Just having a very difficult time choosing between this, the Sig P365 Macro, the terrific Walther PDP-F, and the Glock 43X MOS. Glock 43 X is very slim, balances best in my hand, trigger slightly inferior to the others. Cost differences not a consideration for me. The Walther PDP-F seems the highest quality to me, the grip is fantastic, and I believe the choices of aftermarket sights is vastly better, since it's said that Glock type sights are compatible. Trigger on the Walther is perfect for me. (personal opinion even better than the P365.). The Walther, despite having a slide width a little thicker than optimal for me, is just too superior overall.

    I shot the P365XL at my local range and liked it a lot, both in terms of actual shooting and operating the controls (such as racking the slide). However, I did find that I couldn't rack the slide on some other guns that they allowed me to inspect such as the original P365, the Hellcat, and one of the Walther PDP models as well. I also struggled with racking the Glock 43x despite being able to rack the Glock 19 (which was the second gun I wound up shooting) with relative ease. But even with the ones I could manage, I did have to specifically use the "push-pull" method in order to be able to do so, so I guess I do have some grip strength limitations (due to a lifelong disorder). I'm very interested in both guns and am very glad to see a comparison. Thank you for doing this.

      It seems like a do it all gun. Small enough to conceal but big enough to use in home defense…Especially with 3 different magazine capacities. I have a Shield plus and the Equalizer would be great addition for the females in my household. Too bad they didn’t put that light rail on the Shield plus.

    They should have made the grip safety, like the ones on the XD or the 1911, because that grip safety on the equalizer looks like, it was made for somebody that's not right in the head. If you know what I mean?

  • @frosty3693
    @frosty3693 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The issue I have with almost every SIG I have ever handled is the trigger reach. They are just too long. Maybe the SIG is about equal, once you take up the slack, but you have to get your finger on the trigger in the first place. Sorry, SIG is a looser. Apparently most 'gun guy' testers have big hands. But the Equalizer still does not have the crisp single action trigger of a 1911.

    Its all about compromise, how many rounds do you want available before you reload?
    Will a slightly longer grip that accommodates two extra rounds be acceptable, or does round count top grip length.

    Smith seems like a company ready to out of business. Kinda like Remington back in the day. Throwing products at the wall to see what will stick.. CSX, 30 super carry, that shotgun, metal. I have seen problems with quality in the revolvers from countless reviews. Hope I’m wrong, my prediction is they will be sold off and re-introduced like Remington and Colt.
