    This is a very nice trick, I use it often in my campaigns too. The downside is that the new mission won't know your weapons and fuel state, nor the damage that you may have taken. So the mission maker needs to 'estimate' those for each stage. I love fuel management on long missions and the load mission trigger renders a bit moot, you can burn as much gas as you want as long as you can reach the loading zone.

      Nice info. Would be good if ED could create a function to pull current jet state (dynamic) from file A to file B, to keep that jet state between transfers.

    I've thought about implementing that for DCS Web Editor, since it already has one world map. It would split missions automatically and setup triggers at DCS map bounds. That would make it quite trivial and fast to build multi-map missions. However, carrying over fuel state and loadout is something that ED should implement.

    • @general_av8or
      @general_av8or  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed! And on the topic ED should implement, if they are not going to give us the ability to fly between maps without tricks, at lease give the option to not have to select units on the next map. Load the mission and just fly without the selection.

    • @sloppydog4831

      Couldn't it be made with the help o TacView. TacView records everything, so the export part is done. The challenge remains extracting from TacView and inserting the status in the mission.

      That's a really great idea @dcs-web-editor and a great use of the capabilities of the WE. I was thinking even before you do/did that, you can still use the WE to copy units across to the other part of the map (where there is overlap) very easily (I use that a lot to re-create specific missions types from one map to the other)

    This.... Five Stars man! I have been wanting to use the load mission like that just had no need yet.
    Since so many maps are adjacent to each other a great tool would be a "Flight condition" where the trigger saves the state of your AC (Weapons, Fuel, Damage, ETC) and when you load into the next mission you get the same Aircraft. Should be easy but I am not a programmer either.
    I imagine time and weather would be another thing to consider when changing maps. It may be a night refuel with that tanker when you get back.

    • @general_av8or
      @general_av8or  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am sure there is a way with scripting to make that work, I am still just learning some basic scripting, hopefully I can figure that out at some point! I am for sure going to look into it.
      When I made this mission, I looked at the times to the last steerpoint, giving me a flight time at the speed I set. Then best guessed at how long to refuel at the tanker. Then set that time in the next mission. So it was pretty close but not exactly what I imagined. I was looking for it to be pretty much dusk when I hit the tanker on the return. I missed the mark a bit. Not sure if you can also check the time with scripts to add that to a lua database with the aircraft state and load the next mission with ALL the flight parameters from the previous map.

    3:28 mission editor shows you true airspeed, indicated airspeed will differ from true airspeed depending on a lot of factors. Seems to be modeled pretty realistically in DCS. I don't fly the F-16, but I know in the F/A-18, you can set the HSI to show true airspeed (TAS), or Ground speed (GS)

    • @general_av8or
      @general_av8or  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The F-16 has a 3 position switch that will display, in the hud, either the calibrated, true, and ground speed. The issue I have is when setting the speed in the editor, isn't that I don't know what speed I am flying, the issue is my tankers are either going way to slow and I am almost stalling, or way too fast for my current weight at that altitude. I have listened to a few fighter pilot audiobooks, and it seems like they are refueling at higher altitudes than I usually do. I set around 20k usually. Maybe it is a DCS issue? Usually it seems the tankers, or aircraft in general cant handle the altitude well. I set a tanker to what would be a "normal" speed at like 25-30k and it seems like they can't fly a normal speed and barely can hold the altitude. Have you had this issue?
      I appreciate the input!

      2 pro tips on your tanker. Set race track orbit on waypoint 0, 50 nm. Also go for an airspeed of around 275 knots for an f-16. This may take some playing with the values and checking in game.

    I can imagine some hilarity doing this for a multiplayer mission. One jet flies into a trigger zone then BAM, everyone is transported to another map representing a different time with all different adversaries. Syria 1970s to Channel1940s. Mig29 adversaries to Fockewulf and Messerschmitt adversaries . Wasnt there a movie with kirk douglas where an aircraft carrier from the 60s is transported back to pearl harbor 1941? And using the new fog and weather, you could even make the 'twilight trigger zone' visible maybe as a bubble of fog and clouds. Imagine the disorientation as multiple jets fly into and out of the various trigger zones. Gives new meaning to the idea of multiple parallel universes.

    Fantastic effort. Thankyou for figuring this out. Hopefully one day Ed will allow us to patch the maps together in a single world ala MSFS. Certainly now when we have the Middle East so we’ll covered with 3rd party maps, it’s a no brainier that getting them to work seamlessly together should be a priority. Maybe even more so than a dynamic campaign. 😮😮😮😮

    ED is eventually going to a full globe model that will obviate the need for all of this.

    Nice video. I didn’t think about it. Maybe a workaround for the weapons load is that you can use instead of a tanker the first airport of the next map for reloading. This is maybe not so immersive but you travel there empty and you reload whatever is needed. If you want to do AAR then you just fix the loadout without fuel and you do the AAR later. Just an idea!

    • @general_av8or
      @general_av8or  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the idea! That would work and give more options for missions wise, like an accidental incursion into Syrian airspace and have to take out some Migs or something, then you would have to re-arm anyway. Another way is possibly some kind of script that will track what you shoot off your jet and then use that data to match the next aircraft. In my video to Iraq, I just used best guess and it worked out pretty good.

No action should be in the overlapped areas of the maps, RTB base should be in 2nd map. But very interesting long missions can be planned for transition between maps air refuiling can be a good idea (target fuel state can be set as the fuel state at start of 2nd mission) also no change to default weapon setup should not be allowed in 1st mission

    1. Can I do the same with the Sinai scenario and I can do the same with the Caucasus scenario and I could even do the same with the Iraq scenario, which is obviously a country that borders Afghanistan. Could I do that? That is the first question?

    • @general_av8or
      @general_av8or  หลายเดือนก่อน

      1. I have not tested Afghanistan, but it should work between all the maps. If you use Afghanistan instead of Iraq i. This example I would imagine it will work the same.
      2. Unfortunately, no. You will notice it, due to the current limitations of DCS being a map by map based sim. When the other mission/map loads, your screen will look the same as anytime you load. It will go blank, have the loading screen, and if you have client selected instead of player for the air unit you will have to choose the aircraft. The "seamless" I put in quotes as a ironic thing, kind of poking fun at ED and hoping the conversation can get jumpstarted on the need to actually make it seamless.
      I hope I answered your questions, and didn't cause more quetstions.
      Summarize, you will notice the transition, and there currently no way around that.

    This is great for the solo player that makes thier own missions (the mission assumptions are being based on how "you" fly..) but for community pilots this is irrelevent, sadly

    • @general_av8or
      @general_av8or  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Unless the community is doing the same mission. But, for large servers with a lot of different things going on, yes, this is irrelevant to those pilots.

      Once you hit the trigger zone, your screen will go blank, then you get a loading screen as if you just loaded a mission from the main menu.

      @mrpont3980 only thing i can think of is maybe check the trigger and ensure you are using the correct group in "part of group in zone" and make sure you are using the correct zone name as well on that trigger. Once the group that is set in the trigger crosses the zone, it should load the mission. In the comments of this vid is a link to the video i used it in, i believe i posted a link in the comments to that vid to the mission files. Grab em and check it out.

    This is not "seamless" at all.
    What happen to your loadout, your fuel, your buddies positions, the ennemies chasing you. etc.

    • @general_av8or
      @general_av8or  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct. "Seamless" was to a passive aggressive way to call out the need to be truly seamless. I just had to guess, which worked out. I am looking into scripting a saved state to help with the concerns you brought up, but my scripting knowledge is low as I am just starting to learn.

    You are just actually just loading separate missions
    Just start your mission in Iraq at the border and finish it at the border and you don't have all the wasted time in between.

    • @general_av8or
      @general_av8or  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pretty sure that was clear in the video, while I was making separate missions and calling the load mission action in the triggers. Yes, you could just do an air-start on a single map, but I had more fun doing this. If you just want to do the one mission and air-start it and not mess with the other missions, by all means. Have a great flight!
