- This is the first video in a series about using the DCS Mission Editor. It's intended for players who are new to the DCS Mission Editor. It includes a brief tour of the editor and the practical steps necessary to create a simple mission with a single plane and a single ground target.

I just downloaded DCS and cracked open the mission editor....my first thought was that I tore off more than I can chew. To the point I drove myself nuts trying to figure out how to interact with the cockpit. You can't! All keystrokes and bindings. I am a MSFS 2020 user and I am used to high level interactions with my aircraft. Nope. But this series is a God send. Liked, subbed and I will now be a frequent visitor now that I am a DCSer.

Btw. It sounds like you are starting out on the SU-25T. There are better - and free - options available which have fully clickable cockpits. I have a series about that somewhere on the channel- try this th-cam.com/video/-xUn9qOQ25Q/w-d-xo.html or find me on Discord and we'll get you sorted out!

I thank you for this first step ME video for a new DCS user and for explaining its dev origins….which explains its complexity. I’ve watched a lot of ME tutorials and wished for a simple starter video until I found yours. You nailed it! I am starting with WW 2 so any ME videos on that topic from you would be much appreciated. Your teaching style and pace rocks!

Amazing how much of this works exactly as it did in Flanker 2.0. Looking forward to this series, I've never really learned more than his back then.

Good stuff Iain! Just watched the entire video! Great pace. I was able to create without a mistake! Just started to learn DCS two days ago. Been on Flight Simulator since FS5.1 This is one hec of a learning curve! Blue skies and will check back in regularly!

Good stuff :) I dont crack open the Mission editor all that often. with the release of your Georgian bombing range, I decided I wanted Carrier ops to practice landings, as well as setting up a couple tankers in racetrack for AAR practice as well. this weekend was a lot of trial and error getting that all setup.
Sounds like a good way to waste a weekend to me :-)
I think a series on the mission editor is a great idea. Learning the ends and outs of it would go along way. I remember making missions in Janes Anthology. Thank you sir and keep up the great work.

I think I spend more time tinkering in the mission editor than actually flying. I've never been able to figure out triggers. So hopefully you'll get around to that aspect in this series!
I plan to for sure. I agree it is very possible to spend whole evenings or days fiddling in the mission editor instead of flying!

appreciate this video. too many people are intimidated by the tool and should at least know the basics of setting up something for your and a buddy to get into the air.

i crate the mission but i cant fly the airdraft by myself it flys automatic without my controls
Are you sure that the plane is set to either "player" or "client" ?
When i select Add or modify airplane group i cant select the airplane i want and it dosent look like yours any way to fix that
Check to see what country is selected. Not all planes are available to all countries. Also, check to see that the little watch symbol at the bottom of the screen is NOT srlected. Having it on restricts selection to units available on the scenario date.
After starting mission my camera is not inside the cockpit? And General F1 default 'cockpit view' button does not do anything (trying with F-22) Also the aircraft automatically starts to ramp up the rpm and drives towards runway for takeoff, I did follow this exact video.. I was hoping it would let me do a cold start myself, just a simple free flight option would be nice!!!
Are you sure the aircraft is set to player or client?
@@Sidekick65 Yeah switched to player after placement, there seems to be a timer set for automatic takeoff.. (also in the video you see 'START' set at about 8 minutes but not able to disable) Anyway recreated the mission for 51D and the cockpit view just works.. But the cockpit view for f-22 mod, seems to require the FC3 pack to be able to function.. Anyway thank you for reaching out!
for some reason I cant fly the plane...
It doesn’t work for me
I add my aircraft and select "client". But when I fly, I start in an external view of a red plane. I switch to my aircraft but all I get is an external view. F1 won't enter the cockpit. And the aircraft taxis and takes off itself. I select my role (aircraft) before entering the mission but I still can't fly. Any ideas? Also the "personal" option is not available in settings either.
Hmmmm... that does sound odd. What aircraft are you trying to fly? If it's one I own you are welcome to send me the mission file and I will see if I can reproduce it. Can I suggest that you go to my Discord server and DM me there?
@@Sidekick65 Thanks for a response! I figured it out. I was using the F-16. But I selected the block 52, not the block 50! Problem solved!

I'm sorry, but I probably won't be able to help you very much. I do not own the JF17 and don't know much about it. There are several videos on my channel about making missions. Perhaps you will find those helpful. I am sorry that all of the content is in English, I realize that may make it difficult for you. I wish you good luck in finding a community that can support you in the way you would prefer.
