The're not any more efficient because they loose efficiency due to the endplate wrapping under the profile. They may actually be less efficient. Typically a two element wing gets a lift/drag ratio of about 4.2-4.5. I haven't seen anyone achieve 4 and I haven't pushed the design at all with mine in the 3s.
