Thanks Marianne, that was most helpful and timely. I've been really frustrated with not being able to paint the last month or so. Mostly because of the weather. I paint in my garage and the heat has been unbearable and I've been getting p'd off a lot. Just last night I decided to be kind to myself and not paint during these months and maybe just read, do some sketching, socialise a bit more etc. Once I made that decision I felt so much better and relaxed 😊 Your videos always seem to hit the mark, thank you.

So great to read this Carrie! Sometimes knowing when to walk away is the BEST thing for us instead of trying to stick with "it" whatever "it" may be. So enjoy your friends, sketch a bit, and whatever else... the studio and your inspiration are waiting for you when you are ready!

Hello Marianne, I'm writing this while waiting for the base coat of paint to dry, haha. Your words really inspired me to come back to art after this short holiday break, especially what you said about our own expectations really resonated with me. And yes, starting out again with cheap pieces of paper and doing a series of drawings is genuinely something I''m going to plan for the nearest future, as well as taking a long walk is a great suggesting, for when the weather here becomes slightly warmer.
One way found useful for myself is to try a new medium be that pencils or inks and just let yourself play around with them. Look back on your new materials got throughout the year and instead of keeping them on the shelf afraid of "wasting" them actually using them and giving them a life, and maybe end up trying something new and fresh as a result.
Thank you for the reminder to reconect with art again :)

Hi Marianne, Thanks for these recommendations. It's not hard for me to turn to my art books for encouragement or inspiration, as you know. It the reminder of 0% expectaton and 100% kindness that continues to be so good for me to hear. The negative power of the inner critic, let alone the "outer" ones, is amazing. I am feeling renewed with greater curiousity and engagement for what may happen in my studio in the coming weeks.

Hi Marianne…. This video resonates with me so much. I’d been working in graphic design earlier in my career but I’ve been painting since 2009. Art school was an amazing experience for me. I’ve sold a lot of paintings, done commissions, and had many of my paintings licensed for products and framed art print manufacturers for years. I’m creating a brand new painting practice starting today! I am 64 and need a new journey so I’m going to paint large canvases of abstract seascapes and landscapes. Love your channel. Cheers!

My apologies for not replying sooner. This is great to hear! What a wonderful adventure you're embarking on. I'm also happy to hear the video connected with you and that you enjoy the channel. Many thanks for watching!

I find standing on my head naked really frees my freestyle.

These are wonderful reminders and some new inspiration including an interesting book recommendation- thanks very much. I will be back in my studio shortly and so have enormous anticipation growing. I am going to try adding some music to my environment as I usually don’t and look for a way to work large larger and larger still. I will probably need to tape a few sheets of substrate together and obtain a house painting tool or two - but it feels like there’s an enormity to my whole artist waiting to burst forth!

Thank you for sharing, but as a person who has problems connecting to my art, I expected more from this title. Walk more is an advice you hear everywhere, meditation may be better, but still not new. A book recommendation without giving at least 1 tip from the book? Not really helpful. 'Come into the studio' - what if a person practicing art doesn't have one? I mean, no dedicated place to make art. I have my desk, - and a dining desk behind the back of my chair, I simply don't have more space, - and it's wonderful, but I do a lot of things here, work-related things too, household related things. This place is not connected to art intrinsically. And a lot of people have it like that. Advice about what to do when you don't really feel connected to your pieces - well, you didn't give any, you just told about your next video. All in all, you may be a very good artist, but if you want to make videos with advices, there's still a lot more you need to work on. From this video, art seems like a privilege to me. And I don't believe that.
I don't want to be rude and I'm sorry if my comment reads as rude. But if you want to grow your channel, or connect to people, then doing it like this is misleading and isn't a way to go. This video could've been an update 'coming back to my studio', with your experience on how you do it (without advice!), and that would've been much more sincere and relatable.P.S. Also - "100% kindness" - how? How do you do that? Again, if a person can do that, this advice is pointless. If a person can't do that, then this advice is frustrating. Starting your video from this snippet is giving hope that maybe you have some advice on how to do that. And you just finish with the same words, verbatim. It's just a hook, a trick. All of this makes me sad, to be honest.
P.P.S. "I'll show you at the end the piece that I did" - you didn't show it.

Thank you , it’s nice to share the problems that we all have . Painting can be lonely but I love it. I enjoy your manner and simple way of expressing complex problems that we have as artists. I have been disconnected from practise since Christmas. So it’s great for an artist to remind me to just go in the studio even though I know it. We humans are a funny lot😂. I am looking forward to sharing more with you and letting go of my inner critic and bringing in some loving kindness …….even though I know this ……we all need to hear it again and again . Thanks for the tip on The War of Art . I read 9th street Women and it is is a life changer of a book and I have the pictorial volume with all the works too ….these were great artists and so inspirational . Thanks again for reminding me🙏🏻💕🙋‍♀️

@@chrissiekoltai8826 Hello Chrissie! Many thanks for sharing your thoughts here. It is January where I live and we have been in a deep freeze with little sun for several weeks now. This kind of weather begs me to go into hibernation! It's now a bright sunny day and here I am... Cheers to you artistic practice. May you hold 0% expectations and 100% kindness as much as possible for yourself! ❤🙂
