7 Tips for Collecting Beautiful Colour Palette Ideas for Your Art

- Do you struggle to choose colours for your art? Maybe you've found it challenging to select colours that not only please the eye but also resonate with your style. As a devoted colour lover, I am excited to share this video with all my best tips for collecting beautiful and interesting colour ideas for your art.
Underpinning these tips is the idea of incorporating colour collection into your daily routine. Whether you're capturing photographs, creating swatches, or making colour recipe cards, there are numerous ways to enhance your colour skills and better understand your aesthetic preferences.
Some of the techniques I'll share are hands-on, involving fun activities like experimenting with quick backgrounds and creating fun collages. Others are digital, such as taking photos or curating mood boards on platforms like Pinterest.
You don't have to adopt all these methods, but having a few in your creative toolkit will help you quickly discover colour inspiration and integrate it into your art practice.

I have previously done the magazine image colour combinations collection but hadn't thought about using a Pinterest board in the same manner.

These are fantastic ideas, thank you for sharing them! I find a lot of inspiration from art books, in particular the book “Spectrum” which shows colour palettes of patterns from the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Thank you Laura! Great tips and OMG you are so organized! You had a magazine that you once referred to for colour and texture references…can you share that? I still refer to sketchbook pages I did in your Modern Mixed Media course when we used the magazine cutouts then tried to mix the colours. That was a great exercise!

Awesome ideas - love the Pinterest suggestions for favorite colors AND also urban photos…I’m sometimes really drawn to neutrals so finding those shades in urban areas as well as unique shapes - crazy awesome idea!

Great tips! I would also suggest the Color Cubes by Sarah Renae Clark. Little works of art in themselves and can really get you unstuck and they can really inspire. There are also many online resources :)
