I like that you are doing two videos for these episodes … non-gamers (you guys, like me!!) and big fans of the game (Greg and his friend)… I watched both lol. I love not knowing anything about this story or world, and it’s also enjoyable to watch people who know the story appreciate it. That’s a rare (almost unheard of) accomplishment in media, to work for both types of viewer! Fun fact: on the TV we hear something happening in Jakarta. Jakarta is home to the biggest mill factory which makes flour… Sarah and Joel are out of flour for the pancakes, then they decline to eat the neighbors biscuits, later Sarah doesn’t eat the cookies cause she finds out they have raisins and not chocolate chips… and finally JOEL FORGOT THE CAKE! The fungus was in the Flour! And they coulda been infected if they ate any one of those things during the day… thought that was a pretty cool detail
And i think they took that from ergot de siegle a type of mushroom that grows in wheat there was an accident actualy where a whole village died because they consumed flour that contained it it has neurotoxines

The game first came out in 2013, but it definitely hits different after the pandemic. Sarah's death plays out almost exactly the same in the game and it's one of the most gut-wrenching starts to a story out there.
@@paeng1521 Not just her death. I think she captured the whole cheeky but sweet daughter vibe of Sarah very well. Her death would be not very impactful if she didn't, because the character needs to grow on you during this short period of time to achieve that.

the truck scene into the city is one of the most well adapted things i’ve probably ever watched. it was so close to how it was in-game, down to camera angles and all. absolutely love it
I love the detail of the planes in the opening. It would make sense all the passenger jets in the air would be trying to land because all the air towers would either be down or lasted long enough to give the pilots warning about what's happening.

Merle Dandridge, the voice actor for the game Marlene, played Marlene in the show, while Gabriel Luna did a fantastic job of sounding precisely like Tommy in the game.
I loved the ND did their research on Cordyceps Fungus, to ground the game in as much reality as possible. Mainly targets ants and other insects, controlling it to climb up a tree or get above an ant hill where it kills it by exploding its brain/head and the spores spread all over the colony below. Its amazing how a fungus know how to do that and kind of beautiful too, everyone should watch some of it's videos.
I thought so I'm so glad they added that haha. But to make it a bit realistic as well my sister pointed out that during the outbreak you probably wouldn't know how the infection spread so he was steering clear of blood from the infected just in case Idk

I'm also a noob here so I don't know what the game explanation is for how the infection started spreading, but I read an interesting post about how it could've been spread through FLOUR. Joel, Tommy, and Sarah avoided pancakes, the biscuits, Sarah didn't like the raisins in cookies, and then finally the cake so they avoided getting infected
UGHHH this is so good! I wish I could have watched the first episode with someone that never played it; I watched it with people that watched it, and it was full of "They changed this. They changed that. I don't know why they didn't keep this." This is a beautiful change of pace.
The people that have played it need to learn to just appreciate it for what it is and this comes from someone who’s played the game and I can say this show so far is really good

I’ve played both games and my sister watched me play the beginning of the game but my mother knows nothing about the game just that I told her it’s the best game I’ve ever played! My mom loved the first episode so I had her watch the gameplay up to the point where they ended the episode and she was so impressed with how accurate the live action was to the game! She and my sister are so excited for this show and I know that they’re in for a ride!

I never played the game and I immediately loved Sarah. The actress who played her immediately allowed us to really become fond of her. I've seen pictures of Joel and a girl so I assumed it was his daughter. I was heartbroken when she died. I was in disbelief

Jesus this cast is stacked , it took me me while to realize that Anna Torv from Fringe is playing Tess OMG . the scene where Sarah died broke me, we had to pause it so i could console my GF . never thought i would connect to a character this quickly in a TV show
As someone who has played the game multiple times. I love that we are getting prospective from gamer and newbs haha I like seeing the last of us world through a fresh lens. After all this is done I think it would be great if the 2 of you would play through the first game and make a series of it! To see your thoughts on the video game after watching the series!
Did you all hear the theory of the fungus coming from spoiled flour? No pancakes, no cake, the guy was feeding the grandma biscuits, Joel is on the Atkins diet, Sarah didn't take the cookies, and so on and so on. Also Indonesia is a top grain producing country. Kind of neat
For those that haven't played the game, you are in for a wild ride of tragedy, heartbreak, and an emotionally roller coaster odyssey through a ruined America, to get this immune girl to safety and the bond that forms between a hardened, jaded killer and this innocent yet brash teen that grew up in this world. So far, they nailed it in this premiere so far. I do have reservations with the changes made here (as it will cause creative problems down the road, especially with season 2 covering TLOU2) and knowing that 2-3 episodes of its 9 episode run is dedicated to flashbacks and interpersonal drama as well as the changes yet to come in the second half, but I'm very positive with the episode overall. It made a good first impression and crossing fingers it maintains that momentum to nail its iconic ending Mid March.

Always been a fan of both part one and two and been waiting for this show for a long time. But seeing Christopher Heyerdahl and John Hannah open the show really made me geek out.

Every reactor I've watched has played the game and knows what's coming. It's super interesting seeing their comparisons to the game. BUT your reactions (knowing nothing) are SO much more entertaining 😂😂😂
I like a lot of the changes they did with the show. For example, the spores are not in this and they went with the original concept art before the spores called “the tendrils”. Realistically all the spores would be in the air so everyone would be dead or the infected would run out of spores, and they wouldn’t be just in some zones. Realistically they would still have spores in the hair and clothes, it would be impossible so I love it this way more because it’s more realistic and TLOU is very grounded and realistic, so it makes more sense like this and also the tendrils makes the infected EVEN MORE creepy and show how all of them are connected so I love it. "There's things that work in the game that would just not work in the show," Druckmann. And how the infection works. In the game it takes like two days to turn, in here like they showed in the scene with the little boy in the sign if you get bitten in the leg being the farthest part to the brain it takes a lot of hours or a day so it makes more sense, then torso, shoulders and hands, it takes some hours and then head it takes minutes and that makes it even more scarier, I love it. The plane scene is WAY better in my opinion, is more tense and more cinematic so I like this more than just the car crash. Like even smaller change like the guy that shot Sarah saying “I’m sorry” is an improvement. It’s shows he is just following orders and didn’t wanted to do it. Amazing. And one scene that I like way more in the show than in the game is when Joel, Ellie and Tess gets caught and Joel puts himself in front of Ellie and then have PTSD with Sarah, THAT scene for me was way better and I love it. I love all the new scenes we got, everyone in the cast is perfect, and the scene after Joel, Ellie and Tess gets caught I love how Joel had PTSD, it made the scene more emotional and I liked it better in the show. And about the public execution this may be sound harsh but I get it. They have to put order and fear, if people leave and get out whenever they want and even only one gets infected and one of them goes back inside the quarantine zone they could all get infected, it’s harsh but I get it. By far the most faithful live action adaptation and with only the first 30m of the episode it was the best adaptation. Amazing pilot episode! 10/10 I love it.

I'm a non-gamer (well, I've never done console stuff - I do simple ones on my phone), but I think I'd heard of this. I'm not good with horror or gross stuff, & I'll openly admit that I'm mostly watching it for Pedro Pascal (😍), but I really liked the first episode. 😊

I could feel that plane crashing in my gut, the way this is shot is brilliant, this show is in great hands with Craig Mazin. I've never played the game but I am finally playing it along with the show. I've watched game play of the opening and this nailed the atmosphere.

Spoiler-free: In the game, they fit most of the dialogue that happens in this show in during the times when you're wandering, exploring, and looting drawers for crafting materials while the NPCs you're talking to follow you around keeping conversation.
I love Tara’s’s point about making the bullets and drugs - it’s a slippery slope to Mad Max: Fury Road, much of which is defined by the reliance on bullets in post-apocalyptic world!
She definitely picked her knife back up. When I first saw that knife in the episode I was like ffffffk yessss 🤤. That is Ellie’s signature weapon; the switchblade is also like a permanent upgrade to shivs in the game, one her passive traits.
I also loved the "I'm bleeding put over here" comment, as a lot of times, if you wait too long before making a decision or engage in extra dialogue, then NPC's would throw out a one liner to get you motivated to continue the story.
The Song was Depeche Mode - Never let me down..... they use it to communicate...so Joel is already on the way but the song confirms trouble is on the Horizon

I’ve played both games and my sister watched me play the beginning of the game but my mother knows nothing about the game just that I told her it’s the best game I’ve ever played!
My mom loved the first episode so I had her watch the gameplay up to the point where they ended the episode and she was so impressed with how accurate the live action was to the game! She and my sister are so excited for this show and I know that they’re in for a ride!

the wrench is more than likely a call back to the game because some weapons you can use a few times but will get damaged and won't be able to anymore and you have to drop
I won't lie I've been excited since the episode came out to see this reaction. It's cool seeing people that love the game see this show but fuck me watching y'all two experience it for the first time, AND experience it through a VERY well made show, is incredible
I never played the game and I immediately loved Sarah. The actress who played her immediately allowed us to really become fond of her. I've seen pictures of Joel and a girl so I assumed it was his daughter. I was heartbroken when she died. I was in disbelief

Ellie did pick the knife back up. Its even made obvious when Joel stares at her grabbing the knife. This is when he says, "lets go" or something after they talk to Marlene and try to escort her.

Jesus this cast is stacked , it took me me while to realize that Anna Torv from Fringe is playing Tess OMG . the scene where Sarah died broke me, we had to pause it so i could console my GF . never thought i would connect to a character this quickly in a TV show
As someone who has played the game multiple times. I love that we are getting prospective from gamer and newbs haha I like seeing the last of us world through a fresh lens. After all this is done I think it would be great if the 2 of you would play through the first game and make a series of it! To see your thoughts on the video game after watching the series!

Did you all hear the theory of the fungus coming from spoiled flour? No pancakes, no cake, the guy was feeding the grandma biscuits, Joel is on the Atkins diet, Sarah didn't take the cookies, and so on and so on. Also Indonesia is a top grain producing country. Kind of neat

For those that haven't played the game, you are in for a wild ride of tragedy, heartbreak, and an emotionally roller coaster odyssey through a ruined America, to get this immune girl to safety and the bond that forms between a hardened, jaded killer and this innocent yet brash teen that grew up in this world. So far, they nailed it in this premiere so far. I do have reservations with the changes made here (as it will cause creative problems down the road, especially with season 2 covering TLOU2) and knowing that 2-3 episodes of its 9 episode run is dedicated to flashbacks and interpersonal drama as well as the changes yet to come in the second half, but I'm very positive with the episode overall. It made a good first impression and crossing fingers it maintains that momentum to nail its iconic ending Mid March.
I think the creative changes were essential.

Loved your reaction! The way people that know nothing about the game liked the episode shows how well done it is. This is my favorite game since I played it for the first time in 2013 and the episode supper passed all of my expectations. And I'm sure she picked her knife back! it's her signature weapon, they wouldn't leave it like that hahahah

Always been a fan of both part one and two and been waiting for this show for a long time.
But seeing Christopher Heyerdahl and John Hannah open the show really made me geek out.

Every reactor I've watched has played the game and knows what's coming. It's super interesting seeing their comparisons to the game. BUT your reactions (knowing nothing) are SO much more entertaining 😂😂😂
I like a lot of the changes they did with the show. For example, the spores are not in this and they went with the original concept art before the spores called “the tendrils”. Realistically all the spores would be in the air so everyone would be dead or the infected would run out of spores, and they wouldn’t be just in some zones. Realistically they would still have spores in the hair and clothes, it would be impossible so I love it this way more because it’s more realistic and TLOU is very grounded and realistic, so it makes more sense like this and also the tendrils makes the infected EVEN MORE creepy and show how all of them are connected so I love it. "There's things that work in the game that would just not work in the show," Druckmann.
And how the infection works. In the game it takes like two days to turn, in here like they showed in the scene with the little boy in the sign if you get bitten in the leg being the farthest part to the brain it takes a lot of hours or a day so it makes more sense, then torso, shoulders and hands, it takes some hours and then head it takes minutes and that makes it even more scarier, I love it.
The plane scene is WAY better in my opinion, is more tense and more cinematic so I like this more than just the car crash.
Like even smaller change like the guy that shot Sarah saying “I’m sorry” is an improvement. It’s shows he is just following orders and didn’t wanted to do it. Amazing.
And one scene that I like way more in the show than in the game is when Joel, Ellie and Tess gets caught and Joel puts himself in front of Ellie and then have PTSD with Sarah, THAT scene for me was way better and I love it.
I love all the new scenes we got, everyone in the cast is perfect, and the scene after Joel, Ellie and Tess gets caught I love how Joel had PTSD, it made the scene more emotional and I liked it better in the show.
And about the public execution this may be sound harsh but I get it. They have to put order and fear, if people leave and get out whenever they want and even only one gets infected and one of them goes back inside the quarantine zone they could all get infected, it’s harsh but I get it.
By far the most faithful live action adaptation and with only the first 30m of the episode it was the best adaptation. Amazing pilot episode! 10/10 I love it.

I'm so glad you guys are reacting - I had never heard of the video game prior to this. I had no idea what it was about. I decided to watch the first episode because I love Pedro Pascal and all the reactors I follow where reacting to it - I didn't want to feel left out. Lol.
I'm a non-gamer (well, I've never done console stuff - I do simple ones on my phone), but I think I'd heard of this. I'm not good with horror or gross stuff, & I'll openly admit that I'm mostly watching it for Pedro Pascal (😍), but I really liked the first episode. 😊
Tara is awesome, we want more of her... hell we want more of all of you but as a fan, I can only imagine the crazy amount of work involved in providing us the amount of content that you do, but if there is any inch that you can expand into - make it one that involves Tara if y'all can.

I could feel that plane crashing in my gut, the way this is shot is brilliant, this show is in great hands with Craig Mazin. I've never played the game but I am finally playing it along with the show. I've watched game play of the opening and this nailed the atmosphere.

Padro Pascal has become everybody's favorite tv daddy recently.
Spoiler-free: In the game, they fit most of the dialogue that happens in this show in during the times when you're wandering, exploring, and looting drawers for crafting materials while the NPCs you're talking to follow you around keeping conversation.

I love Tara’s’s point about making the bullets and drugs - it’s a slippery slope to Mad Max: Fury Road, much of which is defined by the reliance on bullets in post-apocalyptic world!

She definitely picked her knife back up. When I first saw that knife in the episode I was like ffffffk yessss 🤤. That is Ellie’s signature weapon; the switchblade is also like a permanent upgrade to shivs in the game, one her passive traits.
Supposedly, he dropped the wrench as a nod to the game. Weapons are usually only good for a few hits.
I also loved the "I'm bleeding put over here" comment, as a lot of times, if you wait too long before making a decision or engage in extra dialogue, then NPC's would throw out a one liner to get you motivated to continue the story.

I think the planes flying so low was them trying to make emergency landings on the highway, but obv the highway was full of cars and people so that didn’t work out too well
Other than the one that crashed I think it's more about emergency take-offs than landings
