I miss my old Cube sooooo much. I had the 6-speed manual and after a few years a guy hit me and totaled it. Right now I drive a 2005 Toyota Matrix with only 85,000 miles. It’s a great car, extremely practical, the rear seats fold down completely flat so it holds an insane amount of cargo (or perfect for camping in.) I know it will go another 200k miles easy. BUT… I’m about to sell it and get another Cube. Probably the CVT since that’s all I can find now, and those transmissions are infamous for crapping out early. At like 130k. I know I’m making an objectively awful decision but I can’t help myself!
wow… am i really the smartest one here? what you’re doing is brake torque-ing. basically half ass launch control. but it’s specifically designed build up boost for turbo cars before you let of the brakes and take off. not only is that sentra/maxima N/A, but the cvt is absolutely NOT made for brake torque-ing. i know many people who have flat out blown their transmissions doing this and really it’s not 100% safe for traditional automatics either, but especially not cvt’s. your cvt is now failing because you destroyed it during this video💀
This isn't a bad cvt, THIS IS LIMP MODE. There's a number of things that cause this, but this is a safety mechanism to help prevent damage or further damage to the motor and/or transmission by restricting the rpms to 2500. What this man is saying is misleading because something as simple as an air intake or vacuum leak can trigger limp mode. To give him the benefit of a doubt, I think a cvt going out COULD possibly trigger it. Invest in an obd scanner so you can at least check for active or pending codes and from there, consult your mechanic or check/join a forum for your car if you want to DIY it. A couple of main signs of the cvt going bad will be slippage (where the contact point that transfers rotational energy from the motor to the transmission is slipping instead of gripping) and a whining sound that will rise and fall with the rpms (take note, when my car throws a p0101 code the transmission will make the whine when the code is pending or active which could have some correlation with the ecu about to trigger limp mode. Doesn't make the sound when no codes are active or pending.) I have a 2012 maxima and currently battling a p0101 - mass airflow sensor out of performance code and it does this to my car. I've fixed an air leak on the intake hose, replaced pcv valve, and checked the throttle, body which was clean. Most likely will have to take the intake off and check the gasket and some hoses which is going it be a -PAIN- with this motor.
Drove a 2024 SV trim as a rental. This is the most uninspiring vehicle I've ever driven. Feels ultra cheap, doesn't ride particularly comfortably and the materials feel like they were pulled right out from the budget bin. The CVT makes the engine loudly drone under load and the vehicle feels more sluggish than a 2011 Corolla we once owned. If I owned one, I'd have little confidence this vehicle would be reliable 3-5 years down the road. For a brand that advertises 'performance' and 'sportiness', this thing is an embarrassment.

I have a 2017 altima with 166k miles you guys are just Wilding, respect your car and it'll take care of you
my 2013 altima is still going strong at 92k miles😭
My sister bought a used/salvaged 2010 Altima that had just over 100k miles already on it, she’s had it for 5 years now. No transmission problems yet. I have always believed that there aren’t bad cars out there just bad drivers.
Mine is 2013 with 130k miles no problems at all only dim headlights and paint flaking off.
How to tell you have a bad cvt on a nissan step one: you bought a nissan with a cvt
Mechanic: I have found the unlimited money glitch
I miss my old Cube sooooo much. I had the 6-speed manual and after a few years a guy hit me and totaled it. Right now I drive a 2005 Toyota Matrix with only 85,000 miles. It’s a great car, extremely practical, the rear seats fold down completely flat so it holds an insane amount of cargo (or perfect for camping in.) I know it will go another 200k miles easy. BUT…
I’m about to sell it and get another Cube. Probably the CVT since that’s all I can find now, and those transmissions are infamous for crapping out early. At like 130k.
I know I’m making an objectively awful decision but I can’t help myself!
How to test Nissan for a bad CVT transmission: Well you don't buy one in the first place, they all have bad cvt transmission
This is what it looks like when someone clueless tries to give you advice.
You can check if a nissian has a bad cvt by buying a nissian with a cvt
You should change the title of this video to “how you make a good cvt transmission go bad”
The title of the video should be how to damage your CVT transmission and make mechanic's pocket heavier
This goober convinced me that its all user error for the CVT failure..
Damn thought bro was wacking his willy off half way mid of the video I was like damn keep the camera still 😂
This is a "SrallTest". If you will read the Nissan Factory Service manual, it says do NOT hold the accel pedal for more than 5 sec during this test.
This is more like hoe to ruin and destroy your cvt completely so you can go to dealer and buy a new one
you told us how to break it, not how to test it 😂 it’s never healthy to gas it that long without the wheels moving
All the people who are clueless about cars came here to cry about a stall test 😂
wow… am i really the smartest one here? what you’re doing is brake torque-ing. basically half ass launch control. but it’s specifically designed build up boost for turbo cars before you let of the brakes and take off. not only is that sentra/maxima N/A, but the cvt is absolutely NOT made for brake torque-ing. i know many people who have flat out blown their transmissions doing this and really it’s not 100% safe for traditional automatics either, but especially not cvt’s. your cvt is now failing because you destroyed it during this video💀
basically since there aren’t any physical gears, you’re just fucking up the cvt belt by doing this
Ya, cvts REALLY don't like this. I'd say this is limp mode, which who knows what triggered it.
this Video tells You How to Check if your Transmission is Failing and is about to Die too 😅
I have a 2017 Nissan Sentra with 109,456 miles at the time of this comment and my CVT works fine. Maybe I got lucky so far.
This man done tested all the cars on the lot
Probably his lastday at work and he wanna give his boss the biggest FU before he clocks out
And if there's nothing wrong with the transmission , you keep doing that and there will be , I don't understand this.
how to destroy every nissan cat you find
Nissan has become synonymous with bad transmissions.
How to check for bad CVT: Check if your vehicle has a CVT
Or, thats how you mess up a cvt transmission 😅
I started laughing so hard i thought this was a joke
Don't blindly follow TH-cam Mechanic University , you gonna make your car worst
How to get new suckers oops I mean clients with CVT transmission 😂😂😂😂
"after a while" 🤣🤣
Dont test it that way but he's actually simulating the judder from the torque converter.
It’s like those old school videos about powering tv’s with 2 double AA battery’s. You waste the time watching it might well write a bs comment.
I know that this is old but i have a 2008 Nissan Altima with 210,000 and there is nothing wrong with the transmission
I have a Nissan Altima 2.5s mileage is 197,670, just want to know why my car want go pass 20 miles that’s further it goes. Will not go pass that.
I have a 2009 and started having issues at 155k
never talk to me, or my car's transmission again.
Bro if he was not a Nissan tech he would have not gotten away with this.
Bad way = you
Nissan cvt =good
This guy should get an award for having the most (NO WAY"S) Ever in the history of youtube.😅😅
