I cannot recommend enough that you take some time for yourself , headphones on , lights out and listen to the whole album Dark Side Of The Moon all in one hit . It will stay with you forever ... the whole album is the journey of life and death with all its excesses .
The Pompeii portion of the movie was filmed in the first week of October 1971. The seagull sound David gets from his guitar is an effect of reversing the connections on a wah-wah pedal and then using the tone control knob. Search YT for Gilmour seagull effect. The volcano scenes were shot in the Solfatara caldera area west of Naples. It was believed to be the home of the god Vulcan. The whole Naples area sits on volcanoes.
Indeed, furthermore the catacombs of the Amphitheater has an exhibition on this Pink Floyd performance with all kinds of cool photographs, some footage and posters. Didn't expect that, so it was really cool to immerse myself in this Floyd goodness before stepping into the actual amphitheater. I looked like a permanent exhibition, but not 100% on that.
Pompeii was an ancient city located in what is now the commune of Pompei near Naples in the Campania region of Italy. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area was buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The eruption lasted for two days. The first phase was of pumice rain (lapilli) lasting about 18 hours, allowing most inhabitants to escape. Only approximately 1,150 bodies have so far been found on site, which seems to confirm this theory, and most escapees probably managed to salvage some of their most valuable belongings; many skeletons were found with jewelry, coins, and silverware. At some time in the night or early the next day, pyroclastic flows began near the volcano, consisting of high speed, dense, and scorching ash clouds, knocking down wholly or partly all structures in their path, incinerating or suffocating the remaining population. And yes you can visit it.
David Gilmour is a multi-instrumentalist. He plays bass guitar, keyboards, banjo, lap steel guitar, mandolin, harmonica, drums and saxophone. And you know what they say? "All guitars wish David Gilmour for Christmas!"
Back in the day, Pink Floyd & Led Zeppelin were a "Yin and Yang" between them they brought balance to our Internet/MobilePhone/Social Media Free universe. I'm sure we've made great strides forward, and I'm sure one day I'll understand where😂
Lijie, check out (if only for yourself) "Echoes", which they played at the concert in Gdansk. It's definitely the last time they played this song in its original form, as David Gilmour declared after Richard Wright's death that he would never play it again without him. And he kept it. Although he then returned to Pompeii himself in 2016, he played all the seminal songs of Pink Floyd and his solo career, but not Echoes. By the way, the whole concert in Gdansk was spectacular again. Apart from the band and guests, the entire concert was accompanied by the Polish Philharmonic Orchestra. It's another genius in the world of modern music. For example, I really like "A Great Day for Freedom", but as I write, the whole concert is great and worth seeing...
Early 1970s l watched this film in the Dolman Theatre, Newport, South Wales as a one off art house screening. Theatre was not full, but we all enjoyed the music and visuals. Had never seen them even on TV before that and the only song l knew was the 1967 single ‘See Emily Play’.
A great bookend follow up would be Echoes from Gilmour's tour in 2006 (Gdansk). A stunning rendition so many years later. At that time Gilmour had been playing with Richard for about 40 years and the back and forth between them is magical. Sadly it was basically Richard's last full concert performance as he passed away some years later. David retired the song from his set list as he didn't want to play it without Richard.
You need to start giving Richard Wright some respect. He's a great keyboard player a wonderful singer and wrote two of the most beautiful PF songs, Us and Them and Great Gig in the Sky.
The bubbling volcano is probably the Phlegraean Fields, Northwest of Naples city. There are many volcanos around the Bay of Naples, Vesuvius being the most famous. Yes, you can visit Pompeii, and another nearby covered city called Herculaneum, where Pliny the Elder died, his nephew recorded to eruption in 79 AD as observed from the Isle of Iscia. You will need a week, at least to visit all the interesting places around Naples.

That shrill sound did come the Guitar. It's what you get from plugging a Wah-Wah pedal back to front. It's also controlled by using the volume knob. I've done it myself by accident. Nearly had a heart attack it was so loud.
This dog here was an Afghan Hound. They used it for the movie only as it belonged to one of the French people where the studio was located. The idea to do this was taken from the Meddle album song Seamus. Seamus (pronounced Shamus)was a dog who belonged to Steve Marriott of the band Humble Pie. Steve taught the dog to sing, lol. Steve was away on tour and friend and neighbor Dave Gilmour was watching the dog for him. The band got the idea, and the rest is history. Seamus is generally regarded as one of the worst songs the Floyd ever did.
Thank you so much for listening till the end!! I WISH i had an old school fender reverb amp, i did turn up the reverb on the Roland amp i'm using about 50%, good ears for noticing that 🤟
The audio version of this song is best with far greater guitar and organ work and greater audio engineering that makes the sound much better than the live version!
I love this track but once it gets to that ending (13 mins approx) it’s on another level for me I’ve seen a few different live version and they all have 1 thing in common they absolutely destroy me it’s filled with absolute beauty between guitar and keyboard my heart and soul cannot get any fuller for love of music at that point …..it don’t make sense but I don’t care I just love hearing and feeling it ❤️
The guitar effect " like a hyena" you menation was an accident .A guitar effect was connected the wrong way round and they decided it was a sound they could use ,I think all images you refer to are from Pompeii ,The City and the neighbouring volcano ,Still quite lively .
When Ι sometime leave this light Ι shall meander upwards like a murmuring stream. And if by chance somewhere among the azure corridors Ι meet with angels, i 'm sure we will be able to communicate very well, since they do not know languages. They speak among themselves with Pink Floyd music. (Paraphrase from the poem "The Greek Language" by Nikiforos Vrettakos)
The dog is some kind of "sight hound" (best known of several breeds is greyhound). Theirs looks like closer to a wooly afghan or a mixed breed. I had a saluki, the original breed of sight hound, and he yodeled inconsolably whenever minor keys were prominent, but was unbothered by police sirens that make many dogs howl!
Do you want to see something disturbing? On Jane Zhang HK TH-cam channel a selfie was posted in the community section of the channel after a fan asked if she was ok. But, it is not a selfie, and you can clearly see in the reflection from her eyes someone standing in front of her holding a weapon. Whoever took the picture did not consider the reflection from her eyes.

Yes, you can visit the ruins of Pompeii. I highly recommend it, even if it's the only part of Italy you ever see.
And then came The Dark Side of the Moon ❤
in 79 ad Pompeii was the sight of Mt Vesuvius' catastrophic eruption, which left people melded into stone.
Yes tourists can visit Pompeii. I’ve been it’s a wonderful place to visit.

I think he played all the instruments in "The Narrow Way": acoustic & electric guitar, bass, piano, synth and drums!
some parts of part 2 were filmed in Paris

If you look closely, you can see Captain Kirk fighting the Gorn in the distance.
🖖 LOL, so that's what that image was!

That was SEMUS THE DOG!!! Welcome to FLOYD!! AWSOME!!
Seamus, the dog. Absolute star!
so cool, it opens with the psychodelic version of the albatross sang about in part 1.....

It sure was a fun song to experience on this video! I suppose Seamus couldn't be part of their touring band.
Yes, it is considered to be the worst PF song. But the live Pompeii always cracks me up. I love watching it.
The dog is a Borzoi…or a Russian wolf hound
01:50 Borzoi
Your original stuff is truly beautiful
Thank you so much Sean!! 🙏
enjoyed david harmonica and hound. also your tune at end. i could be wrong yet sounded like you employed an old school fender reverb amp. nice touch.

Please check out the PULSE live collection of Pink Floyd musical gems. COMFORTABLY NUMB, SORROW, and HIGH HOPES would all be a good start.

Il Vesuvio non è un vulcano spento ma l'ultima eruzione risale al 1944. Da allora non ha più avuto un'attività rilevante

Hi, Frankie here.
Child in time by Deep Purple live 1970
Good as this is, Echoes live at Gdansk is better.
Google the disaster of the ancient city of Pompeii. ✌️
It's supposed to be funny the dog is "singing". Possibly after some organic refreshment lol

Hi, could you please, someday, react to Nightwish "Ghost Love Score" live at Wacken 2013 ?
Thank you and have a great day !
Looks like a wolf hound.
