- The title says it all!!!
Got word of some fish in the Wilmington Canyon. Decided to make a last minute run to the edge with the mindset of BIGEYE OR BUST!!!
I stayed out in the deep and pounded the bait and life. Finally we get OUR TICKET PULLED and go 2 for 2 on smaller Bigeye Tuna.
I don't fish for Bigeye Tuna much. You really have to be patient and wait out the bite. They are what's called abysmal tunas, so they live the majority of their lives way way deep on canyon walls, etc. They only come up to the surface to feed just a few times per day. You just have to be in the right place at the right time. Then hope your tackle holds up!!! Because these things are beasts!!!

You’re an amazing dude. I been fishing over 30 years and nobody has just taken me out like this to put me on a fish of a lifetime.
thank you so much for the kind words!!! and thanks so much for watching.
@@reaperfishingnj8623 well watching is the closest I’ll ever get to these fish lolll
Awesome video! Brings me back to my mid 1990’s canyon trips. So awesome to meet you and Zac at the boat, keep the videos coming! Nothing like fighting a big eye!
Great to meet you as well Larry. I fought my first one at age 16 back in 1996. We lost it right under the boat.
Absolutely Awesome! Chris, have you ever considered fishing with Dillon where he goes? It would be a great vid!
Awesome trip. Cant wait. I heard the bft are down your way headed this way! Whoohoo!
thanks so much
Awesome Captain Chris! The young Bucks will learn so much from you and Zac. I was grinning from ear to ear with all the carrying on. Action like that is what my father always loved about your videos. Tight lines!
Thanks so much as always for watching Christopher. It really is hard to hold back the excitement and joy it brings me.
So awesome! Love how you get super pumped over landing fish! My 6 year old loves watching these videos. Hope to see you out one day!
That is awesome! thanks so much for watching!
Chris, met you in the CR seminar series "bigeye or bust" class. our studious work pays off! happy to see you got your Bigeye! nice work Reaper Team!
Thanks so much man! Now I want more! Good meeting you
NIce job capt and zac, Gotta love it when a plan comes together. That Kid w/ no harness is a beast.
thanks so much!! Dillon is a monster. He gets bigger every time I see him
You did your homework and it paid off. It's awesome when it all comes together. Captain Chris hugging the tuna was the best.
Thanks for another Great video!!
Thanks so much for watching! Not my first time spooning a tuna!! Ha.
Love how calm an composed you run your boat when you hook up , nice communication and no screaming and freaking out, that sure does help boat those big tuna
Thanks so much for watching. I really preach to my guys to stay calm. It certainly helps when you have a Zac. He is always one step ahead of what I need or what I'm about to tell them down in the pit
Absolutely awesome! The positive energy is wonderful to see. Fantastic stuff Chris. Congrats you guys earned it!!!
thank you so much for the kind words. thanks so much for watching. this was an amazing trip!
Awesome vid! Got my first big eye this year, Washington canyon, went 1 for 2 July 1st, Sterling Tackle.. definitely an adrenaline rush, and a day to remember.. congrats again!
Good stuff! Thank you so much for watching!
Great Job Guys. Thanks for taking us along with ya!
You bet!
Absolutely fantastic. Actually it doesn't do it justice. Amazing time. You are truly blessed. Congrats Capt Chris
Thanks so much for the kind words!
great gift to get with your tackle!
It sure is!
Awesome video again Reaper. I respect the the love you have for fishing and the hard work it takes to do it. Keep the great videos coming. Hope i have my chance to get one. Its on the the bucket list.🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
I appreciate that!
Good stuff Captain. You and your crew were awesome. Bigeye is my white whale too, never even saw one in person.
Thanks so much as always Brew!
Another awesome video! Leaving for the canyons at midnight. Going for tuna and tilefish. Only got one bluefin this year and I’m itching for some more!
thanks so much for watching! Hope you guys had a great trip
Hell of a trip Chris and crew. Way to capitalize on both bites. Good teamwork there.
Thanks so much Chris!
Love it Chris. Way to boat those big eyes. Love how the crew and you make it look like so much fun. It’s what it’s all about. We just did that with the blue fin a week ago. Great job guys!!!
thanks so much for watching. I'm gonna check out your vid for sure.
Looked like one heck of a fishing trip right there Capt. Great job crew!
Thanks so much. More fun action in part 2!
Incredible! Congrats to both the Captains and the Young Bulls!
thanks so much for watching! the young guys are beasts
Great vibes. Had fun watching, I usually do, but that was pretty work. 😍
thank you so much!!! What a fun trip!!!
Nice! You must be a blast to fish with. tight lines.
I would hope so. THanks so much for watching!
Been waiting for this one !!!!! Nice job Reaper Team. Can't wait for our ticket to get pulled
Thanks so much for watching!!! I'm pulling for ya. Just gotta get lucky really
Awesome catch Chris and crew!! Love the video, and jumping in after a nice catch was always my favorite thing to do. Even if you didn't "jump" in yourself. Lol
Ha. Thanks so much for watchin!
This makes me so happy!! You guys crushed it and the harpoon shots 😂❤
Time to get you one brother!
@@reaperfishingnj8623 yes please 🙌🏻
when it all comes together, what a treat, love it.
Darn right. that trip was so fun!!
Laying in the blood you get your salon all bloody!! Congrats I know the first time we got a bigeye was similar but we actually started celebrating after we were back on trol!!
I washed it off in the ocean!
Way to get it done Capt!!
thanks so much!!!
Love it when a plan comes together!
Me too!! Thanks so much for watching!
That’s so cool one day I hope to be able to make a canyon trip. Might try doing one of the party boats in Belmar area. You always seem to kill it. I have friends who fish out of wildwood and they don’t have nearly the hookup to lane ratio that you seem to have.
thanks so much for watching. I sure hope you got out!
Awesome video, I can't wait for this channel to blow up so you can spend more time delivering this type of content.
thanks so much!!! I would love it if i could do more trips and spend more time editing. unfortunately these trips cost a lot of money!
Well done guys
thanks so much!
Great video!
Thanks!
Great stuff captain
Thank you so much for watching!
Keep that Bible on the boat. My fav part of the video was you riding home and showing the Bible. Permanent good luck charm. Love your videos. Congrats.
Yes! Thank you!
Awesome vid Capt Chris keeping em tight!!!!!!
Thanks so much for watching!
Awesome video. As always. What’s the dedicated bigeye spread? Heard that single lures are better for them but would love to put time in for them and increase the chance for one.
The weighted sterling tackle chain. Two Sterling tackle crazy 8 chains. Just one 36" Sterling Bar in tight. Then 5 or 6 select ballyhoo on Joe Shutes or Magictails Hoo heads. One or two secret lures as well that I can't share.....sorry
My favorite tuna to eat!
I just went to NorCal to fish albacore. We killed it. 78 it 2 days.
We were chasing the big eye. Several had been caught up to 90lbs! What a year! Both coasts!
That's so cool you chased the albies. That seems so fun up there. Did you live bait or troll them?
@reaperfishing8623
We had spotted a Marlin jumping in our patch. The bite shut down. We ended at 37. No live bait no dead chunk. Swim baits, 130g flat falls thrown up boat. I did 3 that way and another guy did 6. That was the 37 day.
Then we went the second day. Brought my 14yo who 6’3” and 215. Human winch. Lol. He’s fished….
Threw irons on all stops. We made doubles into quads, quads into 6 ways.
We chunked and then bit the swim baits, irons over and over.
We saw the Marlin and saw pics of many pacific big eye…. We pushed west. Only found dolphins eating albacore non the way back in we made about 4 circles, dumped chunks and had a blast. Stopped at 40.
They are fun . 6-28lbs second day. 1st day was 3lb-24lb. Ouch on the first day size. We left that area obviously.

Awesome! The NJ crew
The best!
God provides! Congrats on the big eyes!
Yes! Thank you!
The intro 😎
what's funny is we were going to go to the Wilmington that day too but decided to run north and hit the Lindy - went 1/1 on YFT and out neighbor killed a nice bigeye off our starboard 100yd off of us
Ugh. Most of the fleet didn't do well from those I spoke to. Not many fish caught. We just happened to get our ticket pulled
God I love bigeyes. Back in the 90s my pop kept his boat on LBI in the same marina as the Bad Bouy guys and we used to always be together. I remember Ron nailing a bigeye that was only a few lbs short of both the NJ and world record. I'm pretty sure there is a vhs tape somewhere filming that fish from my dad's boat.He got it mounted and the taxidermist screwed up and made a mount WAY smaller(that mount last I know was on the wall at the BHMTC) if you have seen that mount it's like 80lbs short 😂 but still a huge fish. That was back when the Bad Bouy was a Grady Sailfish 25. Ced and Ron are legends and 2 of the craziest dudes I ever met. Those guys were my mentors along with Jingles and a few other dudes from the BHMTC. It used to be an issue with guys trying to get me on their boats for tournaments 😂. I'm about to hopefully full send in a few hours. I need to get a wahoo before this water cools. Hopefully I'll be in labor all Labor Day
thanks so much for watching as always! Hope you got em!!
@@reaperfishingnj8623 dude I posted a video called Agony of Defeat 😂. I had a monster wahoo bro. It made my one last year look small. The video sucks but it smoked 300 yards of line. I got it all back solo and had it at the gaff and when I took the last wrap it bit through. 😭. I was devastated. 2nd one to do that this year. And it hit in exact same spot at exactly the same time on exactly the same lure. Pink splash bar WAY back with a pink ballyhoo/chugger. Needless to say all my bally rigs are now wire. 😂. I maybe moving operations north. Someone has vandalized my truck 2 weeks in a row at Absecon ramp. Going to hopefully give it a try Monday. Heard there were some yellowfin semi close. Haven't had a real tuna in 2 years now
My cousin promised a canyon trip this year ! Didn’t happen yet tho 😢 been 3 years since I have been to canyons . We got the giant bluefin here tho ! Nice work Reaper !!
Hope you get back to the canyons man. Nothing like it! Bluefin are beyond fun though!
You live the dream brother. Keep the videos coming
Thanks! Will do!
Sick vid keep up the good work
Thanks so much Brady!
Nicely Done!
thanks so much for watching!
just a little south off of oc, the bites been tough. no great numbers of fish.
That's great boys. Nice job. My absolute favorite. Love your respect for the tuna
What did those two hit?
One was a long rigger ballyhoo (select. 5 oz Joe Shute Candy Apple Red). The other was on a secret plug
Great Vid! I run a 26' CC out of OCMD, and big eye are also my white whale - we haven't yet boated one.
What type of kill bag were you using to hold those two fish?
Pretty sure it is a Braid bag. I bought it so long ago
Awesome!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice catch, how did you know it was a bigeye vs. a bluefun when you did not see the fish yet? Not many bluefin around this time of year?
By this point there really were no bluefin around out in the canyons. The bigeyes are so much rounder and not quite as dark/grey as the bluefin as well.
@@reaperfishingnj8623 cool, thanks for the reply!
Damn that’s awesome
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Man dillon has so much trust in that belt. I could never take my hands off a reel when fighting a tuna, especially an 80😂
I dont have enough confidence in a belt or my hands to be completely honest
These young guys are monsters!!!
Nice. Am I one of the few that appreciates running the boat with no yelling? 😅
thanks so much for watching. We try to keep it pretty calm on our boat
It’s killing me watching the video of catching the bigeyes, knowing there is a good bigeye bite right now and Im not gonna be able to get out there this weekend with the forecast
We haven't been back to the canyon since July honestly. Just bad timing with work and weather
What’s the brand of this boat?
2005 43 Ocean Super Sport
🤟🏽🤘🏼👍🏼😜
"...had no sleep for the last 7 days, i don't know how i do it.."
That's okay. We know.
Just lots of caffeine and adrenaline. Nothing more!
Capt Chris hugging and kissing that big tuna one of my favorite video shots of all time LMFAO 🐟🇺🇸
Ha!! I've spooned em before and I'll spoon em again!
Chris, I would appreciate any help you can afford me. I would like to create short (2-4 minute) "highlight" videos to show on the TV in my waiting room. I don't have any idea what I need, how to create such videos, etc... Any help would be greatly appreciated. ~Scott
That’s a problem you hugging the tuna, seek help!
Ha!!!
Bikini girls equal views
ha
Take the clicker off
Ha. That's what Zac's dad and my dad said all the time. I actually prefer it when trolling. I can hear better
Agreed once fish strikes it is an alarm once fish is hooked and fighting take clicker off smoother reel operation and clearer communication
I'm just an old guy fished from Dry Tortuga's to Cape Sable just offering a tip . Oh to be young again. Tight lines and fair winds to you and yours
sick video
Thank you so much !
