I needed repairs that vastly exceeded the value of my Magnum, but I've been able to keep my car 2 years and counting since then thanks to these videos. Not all heroes wear capes
If you kept your Magnum, hold onto it, especially the V8 models. With only four model years made, distinct and universally liked style, performance, and practicality, they were modern classics when new. There’s nothing quite like them and at this point the prices will only go up for nicer examples.
To all the rookies wanting to attempt this, it’s not really that easy. Separating the lower ball joint from the control arm is the hardest part of the job especially if you are doing it in your garage with just a floor jack and jack stand. On a lift you can get leverage because you have to really bang on it to budge it’s loose. I’m just setting realistic expectations for a diyer trying this for the first time.
I have just got a 14 piece front end service kit and it comes with new ball joints so at least I can, hopefully, just remove the ball joint underside circlip and leave it in the control arm. Saves one part I guess 😫

Great instructional video. I have replaced the struts on my 300c and have to do the upper and lower control arms before long. I have one insight for you. There is a bracket that holds the abs line and the brake line to the spindle and is held on with a small 10mm bolt. You can remove the small 10mm bolt and take the brake line and abs sensor wire completely out of harm's way for the most part. In some cases it may still be necessary to remove the abs wire from the point shown in your various suspension related videos for this car.
You all give wonderful instructions.. thank you alot.. do you have any video on how-to easily removing the ball joint from rhe spindle.. that will be helpful.
+Robert Washington We currently do not have an auto repair video on this particular repair. We will keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future. 1aauto.com
Robert Washington most parts houses have a ball joint press kit you can buy or rent that looks like large sockets, but they sit like a cup on top of the ball joint. Make sure to test the sizes and get the right one! It should cup over the joint and sit on the edge of the parts pressed in, right one the edge all the way around. Then, using an impact wrench to tighten the C clamp that comes with the set, slowly torque with your impact until the joint presses out of the bottom. Very important for me, I torque the c clamp and wait. Just let the pressure start pressing the ball joint out the bottom.
The spindle is usually replaced as a whole with that damn ball joint per oem. Ball joint is sold separately but man that is a sledge hammer beat down to pop off. Most press kits can't remove it due to a weird thin area that you can't fully cover. No one has a oem kit for this. But it took a mechanic a solid hour banging it out and another to bang it back in.
Thanks for the video, I’m replacing just the bushings, would it make a difference if the orientation of the oval hole is slightly different angle installing the bushing on the larger one?
well your video was great, how ever that ball joint was a different beast.. ive never in my life seen anything like it,, the first one took 3 hours beating getting it out, then i went to harbor freight and bought the 90 dollar ball joint removal kit, i borrowed my friends electric impact gun which made the other pretty easy,, tough but easy.. i had to hammer on it with the gun soaking it with penetrating oil as i was doing it, and tapping the arm as i did it. so while your in there either rent the tool if you can or buy the kit and go ahead and change all that stuff while your in there. if you dont the new stuff seems to always make the other stuff you didnt replace to wear out fast.. the ball joints are the worse... hope this help anyone attempting to do this your self... they wanted 1200.00 to do it, its finally ended up costing me about 600.00 which i bought the kit instead of renting it and a few tools i did not have... saved myself 600.00.. hope this helps anyone attempting to do this job
lol, that's because our marvelous LX platform requires said replacements on a somewhat "regular" basis. I've gone through more front end components than I care to remember about but wouldn't trade my charger srt for anything else.
+Darran Helmer Thanks for watching. If any of our viewers needs to make this repair, we carry the auto repair part shown in this video on our website. Here is a link to them www.1aauto.com/control-arm-driver-or-passenger-side/i/1aslf00236?TH-cam&CTA+Comment&Bwrnm3M
Good Video Presentation. I'm in the process of changing my front lower upper control arms on my 2016 Audi. Do you recommend a wheel alignment after the changes.
First of all this is a great video to help me out a lot. Thanks man. I pretty much done everything in this video but I noticed when I took it out for a test drive both of my front tires were leaning in towards the top. They weren't vertical to the rear wheels. What do I do to correct this problem?
At 128ft-pounds torque, how is the situation for the bushing... is the purpose to make it immobilize by permanent fix or is it design to make pivot and make movement? Im afraid my mechanic did too much torque and so, can my bushing get damage? Should i slacken the torque due to preload in motion? Im hearing some squeeking noise and clunking specially when i turn. Pls reply. Thank you
The bushing(rubber/plastic) is cast inside of a thin metal tube... in the interior of that bushing is also a thick metal tube where the bolt slides into... the whole bushing is then press fit into its control arm location... the part with the thick metal tube is slid tight into the joining part(in this case the sub frame and the bottom fork of the shock/ strut tower) that thick metal tube where the bolt needs to go through will be immobilized when the specific amount of torque is applied and the bushing around that metal shaft where the bolt goes through does the flexing when the car bounces up and down or has horizontal side to side movements.. there is absolutely nothing squeezing the rubber/ plastic bushing material. Also another reason why it's fully tourqued with the suspension loaded so the only time there's stress to the bushing is when it is subject to road conditions such potholes... speed bumps... steering...

Do you mean the main ball joint in the spindle? You'll need a c clamp style ball joint removal kit and a very strong impact gun. (Harbor freight earthquake XT, has 1200lb ft if breakaway torque). I got mine out withing minutes. I know your comment was posted quite a while ago, but just read this. So, I wanted to offer my suggestion.
+Trayz Movin Thank you for watching. In some cases you will need to use force with a ball joint press to release the ball joint from the piece it connects to such as a steering knuckle. Once this has been released you may finish removing the mounting hardware and remove from the vehicle. 1aauto.com
