There is a Sidestep in Vocoder (or "Voder"as it was originally known) Bandleader Alvino Rey in conjunction with his wife (who was also his Lead Singer) acquired one of these early Vocodes and used it in a gimmick called "Alvino Rey and his Singing Guitar" assisted by a puppet.

That technical explanation went way too quickly. Glad to see the history touched upon, though that too wasn’t really explained either. How did that secure anything? Were the signals sent separately? Was it presumed that the signals couldn’t be put back together, just because this technology was brand new?
