Hey PNDK&M love your videos! I was just curious if you would ever be interested in making a video about the controller layout for PlayStation and Xbox? What I mean is when I go into the controller settings there's an ON & OFF switch for something called Release Check, Negative Edge I think, Input Something? I have always been wondering what are the positives and the negatives of keeping these on or off? Thank you so much! :) Happy New Year!
The thing I love the most about competitive fighting games is when people take the worst characters/builds and focus on solely playing and perfecting them
Same can be said for shooters. I will purposely use guns that are lackluster because it's feels better when I body the enemy team with it. It's not fun to go around cheesing everybody all the time anymore, man.
@@rtc2112 glad to see a kindred spirit in here of all places. The newest COD has a few "bad" guns that I really enjoy using. Especially the Lachmann 556. Love that AR, just feels good to use
Fun fact, the developers of this series openly despise Tsu Hao. It makes me wonder exactly how deliberate it was to give him a bouncing pink projectile that is largely worthless lol.
Poor Sub-Zero, they clipped his wings and left him to die against the broken monsters of MK9 😔 I actually remember his EX Ground Ice reset before it was patched, he had some amazing combos with it! Funnily enough his reset wouldn't even make him top 10. Cyrax and Smoke would still be way better, yet they *BOTH* keep their resets and he doesn't 💀💀💀💀
My brother will never live down our UMK3 sessions, especially because he, in a moment of panic at the end of a particularly close match, busted out Stryker's "formidable" baton sweep....and ate a hefty uppercut for his troubles to end the match
Ah, I'm sorta glad they killed him off. Didn't make much of an impact, and was destined to become a dark match jobber. Points for being a Mongolian wrestler though, that was cool. Edit: I THINK he was one. Either way, it's cool.
Not sure if it’s quite as bad as these as it’s been a while, but I remember MK9 Ermac’s slam being awful. The float itself was decent because you could do air blast or air teleport out of it instead, but the actual slam was awful. It was unblockable but it was SOOOO slow and punishable on hit, even from far away iirc. Even funnier looking at MKX Ermac’s slam which is super good, despite being blockable in that game.
As an Ermac main in every MK game with him his tk slam was fine. He got punished if blocked but then thats every MK game with an Ermac to slam blocked. His ex slam how's even better since it gave him 2 hits for more damage but honestly his regular tk slam was great for whiff punishes and combos for easy, big damage. If anything that one Jade move was horrible in MK 9 but then she wasn't great to begin with in that game.
@@MKF30 I think you're talking about lift while they were talking about float, ermac's down, down, up. Specifically the part where you release and Ermac slams the ground with his back and the shockwave damages enemies. It's probably ermac's worst special in mk9 but because of the ability to cancel float into other things ended up being usable, so not really a contender for this list.
@@MrSegadude21 Honestly it wasn't that bad since you had 4 options out of it. If it was just the butt slam then it would be really bad but was a great tool for mind games.
So instead of actually doing something with him to make him a memorable character they just decide to humiliate him and pretend he never existed so they can pump out more unmemorable and boring new characters... Thanks netherrealm
Is there a reason why Hsu Hao's wind clap or something isn't in the list? The video shows it a couple of times, and I can't help but notice how minus on hit the move is. Opponents straight up recover faster than Hsu Hao lmao.
Hsu hao is extremely low tier imo, almost everything about him is bad, except the laser, the laser is actually a very good proyectile in a game like mka, literally the savior grace for kano and hsu hao, is like top 3 best proyectile in the entire game (KAK gags included), in that regard, hsu is better than kano on general only due to the way that his lazer works
There is some shenanigans that can be done by intentionally whiffing it, honestly his MK1 spear would be a contender for this since most of the cast gets a punish even from full screen
The one where he slipped backwards out the screen and appeared behind the other player? That was one of the few moves I could pull off as a kid and kept doing it and never had a problem with it and never realised there actually was a problem
I'm not sure if that was intentional, but a video on awful moves starting with Sean doing Tornados (which are unsafe on hit) is pretty amazing. On subject of awful moves in MK, there was also Kabal's Saw Blade in UMK3. In Vanilla MK3 it was exclusively used after a Spin Dash for high damage combos, but UMK3 nerfed this by disabling Saw Blade in this specific instance, leaving the move without any real use case.
The only time I ever attempt to use Baton Sweep is for a finishing meme moment and if I've got a ridiculous lead. It's just insult to injury to be honest. But it is pretty funny to pull off😂
Not relevant here, but the primarily reasons are functionality outside hurting opponents (mobility moves) and moves with many active frames (safer if you meaty later into the move) and sometimes plain balancing for fast lows
Good video. I wish you did some honorable mentions. There are a lot of bad moves in the series that its hard to name just 5. Scorpion's leg takedown in MK2 comes to mind. I'm talking about the final version, not the infinite in version 2.1.
Skarlet's blood ritual in MK11. Y'know, the move with terrible startup and recovery that does more damage to you than your opponent. Can't even be used when they are almost dead because it takes forever to start damaging them
Hsu-Hao is definitely the worst, but the idea of a bouncing projectile could work in the next MK. Pretty sure the comment section would give you ideas for part 2, as for me, I could only say Jade's glow in MK9 but then again I think it would be best to find a competitive viable character with a bad move in particular than a mediocre bad with a bad move among other stuff.
Somehow knew that Hsu Hao would make the list in some sense. But to make the list twice? Even Stryker wasn't THAT bad. I say this, knowing that he made the list with the Baton sweep in UMK3, though at least it was slightly better in MK9. ... I wish Stryker made another appearance & was actually VERY viable in the competitive scene of today.
As someone who does like Hsu Hao, I have to say...his special moves are unfortunately mostly terrible lol, I like his Khan Clap (fun fact: Khan was part of his original name) and in DA I actually really like playing as him, but I really don't understand what they were thinking with the stomp and especially the sorry excuse for a fireball he has in Armageddon...he literally has *2* different projectiles that are way better in that game 😆.
Love your content especially these competitive top lists. Gives a taste of the competitive of any game while also looking at why certain things function or don't.
The whole time you were covering Shao’s taunts I was checking off the box with Havik’s having the same draw backs until you get to the part about them eventually just not working 😂that definitely puts Shao’s over Havik’s
I have been enjoying the competitive history videos. I was to young to understand competive mk when I started and it’s super interesting learning about the old games in a new way. Knowing what ik now about like frames and advantages it’s just so intriguing not to mention all the teq that just passed my mind. I never thought classic mk and the 3d mks where ever even competitive games played in tournaments I thought nrs introduced that and I’m gladly mistaken.

Hi PNDK&M! I was wondering if you'd be interested in making a video with the history of characters who were really good early on,but nerfed into mid tier,or bottom tier.
Huh, I never realized Sub Zeros ground freeze got nerfed, I remember being excited about finding that out. But I never played much Sub-zero after I got good with Kabal and Raiden.
One fighting game I think about when involving bad special moves, is JoJo's Bizzare Adventure: hftf. Dio in that game for example, is a fantastic character but has so many god awful specials.
Even Shao Kahn not being a great character in MKD, I still wish he was in the XBox and PS2 port of Deception. He's such a cool character to have in Deception's roster, one of my fav roster in any MK
which is sad cause that's like one of the only useful damaging specials he has in-game (everything else either lacked damage to be even worth using or was just too unsafe on block)
Honestly Sub didn't even need the reset in MK9. The clone was a great weapon in that game as is. The Hsu Hao moves though lol those seemed useless in serious gameplay. Though I would compare Ermacs Deception projectile to Hsu Haos bouncey move. Its so slow on start up and this silly swirley thing lol 😆 its nothing like UMK3 fireball, MK9s or MKX's.
I know it was yesterday but happy new year I love your content I am 14 and I wish I could of had the chance to experience the feeling of buying the new umk3 but that aside hope you have an amazing rest of your day
I remember that in MKX in the Gunslinger variation for Erron instead of the pocket sand which was handy for combos he got a sand vile that hits low. But you need to spend meter to make it usable in a combo (which granted turned into a launcher) and the start up was really bad if you wanted to use it in neutral. At that point he's better off using the coin shot if you wanted a projectile
Likely because he was spamming it to get footage and edited it to show what it's supposed to do. The move is horribly slow, has a bad hitbox and is full combo punishable on HIT, yet alone block
Question. Would you consider Shao's taunts bad in Deception, BECAUSE it has such a laughable effect to it? Whereas if it was just the taunt, with absolute zero effects and existed exclusively to taunt the opponent. (so in theory, a worse version) Would it even be up for discussion as a "move"?
I honestly think that Quan Chi's buff from MK9 should be on this list; It's on Shao Kahn's Taunt level of uselessness; Stryker's baton is more useful IMHO.
This is hilarious when people trying to argue about some balance stuff in pre-MKX games, since there was no balance or competitive touch at all. I'm still surprised that at least MK9 got some balance patches, considering how broken and janky it remains.
What move would it be for mkx? I was thinking either quan chi skydrop or maybe predator stealth. Might just be those sticking out cause the chars were so strong despite having some of these terrible moves.
Stryker's sweep is indeed horrible, but it's still ""OK"" to use to kinda swag on the oponent when you have way too many frames in advantage or just want to finish them off. From Mk3, I think Kabal's Saw Blade is an even worse move.
