I'm using a 40% urea everyday body cream. It leaves a sticky feeling to the skin, not really a fan of that. About the KP, I think it helps but I defenitly still have KP, at least now, I'm only about a week in. If anyone had real good results with anything else please let me know. By the way, I went for the 40% because I tried 20% in the past with no results and my doctor told me that Urea only really has this keratin breakdown property when in concentrations of 20% or more, so 10% would effectively do nothing but hydrate your skin.

Clearing takes time. If you fail to see improvement after following your treatment plan for 4 to 6 weeks, tell your dermatologist. Some patients need to try a few treatments before they find one that works.
What I’m gonna say is actually bad for your health but... me and my sister We’ve had KP our whole life (I’m 33 now) as well as our mum, and at the moment the only thing that cures us completely, yes: BYE KP, gone for good, is getting tanned. We used to go to the beach quite often as kids and I remember we both got super exited before even getting there bc we knew KP was gonna be erased from our arms for at least a whole month. I guess also it had to do with the humidity from the beach (we always went to warm beaches on the pacific Mexican coast), maybe some sand/sea minerals? I don’t know but it was honestly a miracle. But hey, I think I prefer to stay cancer free than KP free **sigh**

I have reason to believe that, for all of the times I hear that there's no cure, we forget about the "inside" of things and how they're connected to the outside. It might sound stale, but, killing sugar carbs and a stretching routine helped clear up my KP along with SA cleansers. The stretching improved circulation, the sugar carb restriction (whole food diet) eliminated inflammation (again, aided circulation and my joints recovered). I'm curious about ancillary or collateral medical conditions with people predisposed to this condition. My advice is to treat it from the inside and outside at the same time. Think about it, when blood flow is restricted, things die. The follicles are the most peripheral parts of our bodies and they are directly exposed to the environment. Start stretching to encourage circulation! Eat better by removing sugar carbs to reduce insulin and improve circulation! Moisturize right out of the shower and wear under armor-type water wicking garments in the evening; might seem and certainly feels a little messy, but it really helped me. I felt cool longer and my skin stayed soft longer. I believe that is where the visible improvements began. When I started, my hair folicles would bleed in some spots if I aggravated my skin. Now my Wife teases me by claiming that my routine is "better" than hers (I'm not proud of that, but my skin is so much better). See a new you in about 12 months (Moisturize morning and night/ it'll take about 3 to 4 skin growth cycles). Believe me, you will be surprised. I lost 30lbs too.
I had it growing up. It got better as I got older and I got used to it. But then suddenly the past couple years it started getting worse. Not so much the intensity of the bumps but location. Started spreading to my forearms and wrists, to my upper chest which I thought was acne at first. I've tried hydolic acid lotion and exfoliation and it didn't work much unless I exfoliate for 20 minutes then a little help. So I hope one of these helps me better
My son who is 2 next month has been diagnosed with this at 12 months old! As hes got older it has gotten worse. We are of afro Caribbean heritage and i believe my son got this from me. Mine wasn’t genetic, I caused it to happen, since 11 year old me was insecure about my body hair so I shaved my whole arm dry and that’s how I got mine, I’ve had it for 5 years now and I’m finally starting to get rid of it, I’ve never been happier, all it took was an exfoliating glove and cerava, it’s almost all gone now, it still left tiny red marks but it’s extremely unnoticeable you have to actually look up extremely close for you to actually notice it, but I’ll still be doing my routine and completely get rid of it!

I had this as a teenager and the attitude then you just had to live with it. My daughter has KP since she was 3, mainly on her legs and arms. She is now 5 years old, and KP is starting to be more visible on the face, and I have noticed that she is also starting to have a little rosacea. On the advice of a dermatologist, she has been using a urea-based cream on her body 3 times a week, and on the remaining days she uses URIAGE XEMOSE. However, she liked to have a specific cream to apply to her face. For her age, what do you think will be most appropriate? Thank you in advance for any help and suggestions.

This video is super helpful, but I have a question- how can I tell if the little bumps on my forehead are KP or Malassezia Foliculitis? Because I have KP on my arms and an acne-prone skin...
After trying a lot of remedies in allopathy and ayurveda nothing changed the scenario But by luck or chance there is a chance of getting out of it. I stopped even mild smoke or drinking. Then started avoiding sugars and started work outs. Drastically with in three months the no of kp reduced from 100s to 10s even less. I hardly find one or two of them on my hands and 5-10 very mild non noticable on my legs. This i tried on my body as I'm suffering from it . Don't irritate the skin by using any products they actually don't let the skin to breathe air just be in optimum temperature I have started not taking salts n rice also let me share after a month. Also will start taking lamb liver which is high in direct vitamin A. Thankyou
Hi Dr Sam. I have really bad KP on the back of my arms. I've tried the cleanser and moisturizer from the Cerave Smoothing range and also Ameliorate but they've had no effect. It is not particularly rough to the touch but is horrendous to look at, it's almost purple against my very pale Irish skin. Maybe a Urea or retinoid might be a good next step?
Hello, thanks for the informative video. Are the lotions with the active ingredients suitable for children would you say? I discovered mine on my left shoulder, interestingly, it is only on my left shoulder, I felt bumps and then I saw it, used acids and it got rid of the bumps and improved it but it was still there, I am using the avene 30% urea but it's still not fully gone yet, although it has improved a lot and no longer feels bumpy, despite the 30% urea, the texture of the product is actually very pleasant and absorbs quickly
Can these products be used readily in the face? I have an 8 year old boy who has it on his cheeks and eyebrows, in addition to forearms and legs. Thanks
Any tips for if you like to shave your legs or even parts of your arms but have kp there? Do you think laser hair removal would help? I feel like shaving is bad for kp
It is, but there are not many options. I bought an electric razor 4 years ago and it was great for like 6 months, after that I realized I had tons of ingrown hairs and red spots. I went back to shaving and it made it worst. Is frustrating
Hello! I know I'm super late, still - I use Philips SatinShave Advanced electric shaver, but any other brand should do the job. You have to repeat shaving more often cause it doesn't shave as close to the skin as a traditional razor blade, but it also means that it doesn't "scrape off" this outer skin layer and bumps. No irritation, no bleeding. Highly recommend!

I have passed KP on to both of my children. Can you recommend how to manage it in young children/toddlers please? I’m guessing no AHA exfoliating for them. I’ve been using an emollient and limiting bathing.
Diet plays a role, I first got it when my mom gave me cows milk and wheat makes it worse for many but I'm guessing with kids that isn't so easy. I wonder if you could use urea cream of low percentage.

If definitely is trial and error. I have a mild case of KP on my forearms. I saw improvement using lactic acid (Amlactin) and salicylic acid (Oxy Rapid Treatment 3-1 pads, The Ordinary Salicylic Acid, Cerave SA Rough & Bumpy Skin). I saw the best improvement when I added glycolic acid lotions (Alpha Skincare Revitalizing Body Lotion, The Ordinary Glycolic Acid). Ilike urea body lotions too.
10 years ago, my KP disappeared overnight after a day at the beach and in the ocean! When I notice it coming back, I just go back to the beach and its gone again. I only have to do this about 3 times a year and I will gladly continue to keep the KP away.
My routine : Cerave salicylic acid cleanser or sulfur/salicylic acid soap. If I am not showering that day, I will dry brush instead. I use the ordinary 7% glycolic acid or 5% lactic acid + the chemistry retinol oil, and finally Eucerin advanced repair(urea product) at night. If I do this every day, my KP will almost go away
@@halfgunaaron3694 I showed them to my dermatologist and asked what she would I recommend from a regimen perspective. She said my KP looked fantastic and I should continue doing whatever I am doing. The idea is to 1) exfoliate( you can just get by with chemical exfoliation but I enjoy dry brushing in the morning though it’s not a must/do), 2) remove the keratin plugs which is done mainly by urea and mildly by retinol. And then 3) hydrate which is done very nicely by the ceramide’s in Eucerin. Eucerin has an even stronger urea product called roughness relief and it says UREA on the bottle. That one has the highest percent and more effective if you have more stubborn KP. For chemical exfoliation, when I finish my 7% ordinary glycolic acid, I will not repurchase because it is very messy and annoying to use. I will likely switch to amlactin which has a strong % of lactic acid and doesn’t break the bank. But as long as you have your 3 areas covered, your KP will go away. Just need to do it consistently
i bought the CeraVe SA Cleanser , Tree if life firming Retinol Serum, and CeraVe moisturize cream with salicylic acid. hopefully i bought the right things should i buy different things?
Great info, as usual ! I think I'll start applying a thicker body moisturizer over my adapalene at night (since the vehicle we have in the US is an alcohol-free gel and not particularly moisturizing) and then maybe experiment with glycolic lotion/cream strengths above 10 % for the morning.
@@adrianavivas151 my skin still seems to like 10 % for glycolic: higher than that produces irritation. I'll layer a thicker moisturizer over the adapalene during winter, but for summer, the adapalene gel is enough on its own.
I have oily skin with KP. I find that if I don’t gently physically exfoliate/polish daily I breakout on face and body. How do you feel about fade creams and soaps?

My mom has it, my brother and my twin sister has it lol I am interested to see what her suggestions are. I do a physical exfoliation and use an in shower moisturizer and that keeps it smooth...but its always red
Well at the end of the day, laser hair removal stops the hair to grow and stops quite nicely KP, if laser hair removal work for you, I reduced more than 90% of the problem, at least is not visible anymore, for me was a lifesaver, some parts of my body KP stopped completely.

By the way, I went for the 40% because I tried 20% in the past with no results and my doctor told me that Urea only really has this keratin breakdown property when in concentrations of 20% or more, so 10% would effectively do nothing but hydrate your skin.
Hello everyone! So,I had very severe kp on my arms and trust me guys Dr Sam Bunting is my goddess ❤️🙏🏻 I have been insecure about this skin condition since 18yrs now and let me put it for you all loud and clear,go ahead and try the regimen have no second thoughts you gonna see miracles and burst out with those happy tears 😍
Clearing takes time. If you fail to see improvement after following your treatment plan for 4 to 6 weeks, tell your dermatologist. Some patients need to try a few treatments before they find one that works.
Yep, agreed.
It makes me feel so insecure 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yeah, same here. When it comes to KP combined with tan - it just disappears

Excellent advice. Most doctors will have no solutions except for medication.
In my experience, dryness makes everything worse. Be careful.

Mine wasn’t genetic, I caused it to happen, since 11 year old me was insecure about my body hair so I shaved my whole arm dry and that’s how I got mine, I’ve had it for 5 years now and I’m finally starting to get rid of it, I’ve never been happier, all it took was an exfoliating glove and cerava, it’s almost all gone now, it still left tiny red marks but it’s extremely unnoticeable you have to actually look up extremely close for you to actually notice it, but I’ll still be doing my routine and completely get rid of it!

after exfoliating, i used ointment with steroids for only 4 days. it worked. just don't overuse it. ointment name is Zudaifu. it's a herbal chinese ointment and it's safe to use.
Azelaic acid actually helps me a bunch. Helps with both redness and bumps.

Legit Question: What products would I use if I can't afford fancier products?
The cerave smoothing range is good and less expensive, as is Eucerin.
The Ordinary do salicylic acid and also lactic acid that you can add to boost your moisturiser
Dear Dr. Sam, can all of your skincare products also be used for the neck and chest area?
So which Cera Ve exactly should we use?
After trying a lot of remedies in allopathy and ayurveda nothing changed the scenario
But by luck or chance there is a chance of getting out of it.
I stopped even mild smoke or drinking. Then started avoiding sugars and started work outs. Drastically with in three months the no of kp reduced from 100s to 10s even less. I hardly find one or two of them on my hands and 5-10 very mild non noticable on my legs.

Hi Dr Sam. I have really bad KP on the back of my arms. I've tried the cleanser and moisturizer from the Cerave Smoothing range and also Ameliorate but they've had no effect.
