Thanks so much for the video! The tip about taping the window up was super helpful. This is what I learned replacing both front window regulators on my 1997 Caravan:
    1) I bought NAPA regulators, because of the concern Midnight expressed about cheap parts. It came with new Torx 30 bolts, new plastic clips/pins to hold the motor to the door AND new plastic clips for the plastic door trim. I am not associated with NAPA in any way, but have found some of their parts to be better than those from discount parts stores - when I was willing to pay the extra $$.
    2) Because the cables on mine were so short, I put the front rail (rail nearest the door hinges) into the front hole with the motor, then pulled the motor back out. There was no way for the front rail to fit into the front hole, without the motor going with it. Finally, I put the rear rail in.
    3) I had to remove the bolts that secure the rails, due to insufficient clearance if the bolts stayed in. You may be able to screw them almost all the way in and have sufficient clearance.
    4) The components that fail most are the plastic slider pieces, or the plastic cable stops. Save any plastic parts that aren't broken, because you may be able to use them to repair the other regulator when (not if) it breaks. From what I saw, the plastic sliders are all the same, regardless of which rail and which side of the vehicle.
    5) Leave the rail bolts loose until you get the window pins into the plastic sliders, and get them clipped.
My only question for Midnight is: Did you do a fix on your minivan to keep the serpentine belt from coming off when driving through a water puddle? The tendency for Gen 3 Chrysler minivans to throw off the belt is pretty well documented, but the Delco kit I got to fix the problem didn't fit.

Thanks for adding some great tips! No I did not do that fix. My dad actually has that minivan now and he hasn't had any issues like that. Sorry your Delco kit didn't fit :(

Hello! I will just thank you very much for this video!! It helped me the whole way. I will especially thank you for your "slow" presentation, which in contrast to some other videos on youtube that also show this replacement (but very fast) gave a more thorough insight into the work, showing each moment in detail. /Lars from Sweden

Last night the window sounded like it shattered when I tried rolling it up. It hasn't worked right for quite a while but I could always get it back up with a little help. I took the door off and was amazed at the idiocy of the cables. Automotive engineering at its best. (delete expletive) Very happy to see your video. I do not think I would have attempted the repair. Now let's see if I can get the door handle working again after I mucked that up taking off the panel...
    Thanks for your video!

If its happen in the right door. FIRST CHECK CONTACT BETWEN electro graphite carbon brush and rotor in electric motor ITS EASY AND YOU CAN SAVE MONEY AND TIME. WHY ? Because its happen that greas from spiral screw on rotor of electric motor when is very hot is by time going down and pollutes carbon brush and rotor and break the contact betwen them. All you need is clean the rotor and carbon brushes and its going work again. Only two screw is hold the motor.

i have a 1997 dodge grand caravan and am having a drivers window issue also... when i first got the vehicle the window went up and down... then after a while when i would take it down i would get a loud metal sounding pop which would repeat itself (though not as loud) on the way up... then all of the sudden one day the window stopped moving altogether other then when i hit up or down it acts like it wants to move but does not... i started by getting the door panel removed but then i saw what i was working with and was lost... i came inside and did some searching and came across your video and i think i might be able to do this now... the only thing i am worried about is breaking the glass as i am doing it because i can not see where it is connected as the window is all the way up

Probably the best thing to do to figure that out would be to use Google to search "1997 caravan drivers window". Then take a look at the photos of the uninstalled new windows and you'll see the rail thats attached to the bottom of the glass which should give you an idea of what you are feeling around for. Good luck!! :)

I own a 1996 Chrysler Grand Voyager minivan and just had to replace the power window mechanism for the passenger side. Did you remove the clips from the new mechanism? Do let me know about it. I just about to complete the job on the van.

Without seeing it in person I'm not 100% sure but if it's clips that are holding the sliders in place from moving then yes.

NOBODY BOTHERS TELLING YOU HOW THE FU$K TO RELEASE WINDOW CLIPS

    • @MidnightRoadGarage
      @MidnightRoadGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Right at about 3 minutes I did. You just pop it with a screwdriver. Then you push back on the glass to get the glass out of the regulator. Pretty sure towards the end of the video I have a closer up of the clip going back in. Sorry I guess I didn't make it clear enough in the video. Hope that helps

Nevermind I just watched it all the way through. At 19 minutes I put the clips back in but no close up. At any rate you can see what the clip looks like at about three minutes. Insert the screwdriver at the closed end just pull the screwdriver towards the front or back of the car. The clip can be installed from either direction.
