    I think the biggest question we need to ask about Corax's return is if he would be able to set aside his need for vengeance against lorgar to lead an army / fulfill the needs of the current imperium. While there is no doubt of his prowess in combat, he may be too far gone down the blinding path of vengeance to be of any large scale use to the imperium.

    • @Dreadbringer
      @Dreadbringer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I doubt he'll return at least until he redeems His failure at istvaan, then he would return to bring Lorgars severed head to the Golden throne, though i somehow doubt he would reform His Legión, probably prefers them on chapters for flexibility, or great companys if you Will.

      ‘Even the most sophisticated simulation is crude compared to real war,’ remarked the primarch. ‘Guilliman tried to learn everything he could from the experiences of his brothers when he first met them. I was constantly vexing him with complaints that he focused too much on distinct military units, not taking into account possible civilian participation. To him there was a line between combatants and noncombatants that I did not see. Before our first encounter Guilliman’s treatises had been swift to rule out casualty-depleted combat forces as incapable, since he was so used to wielding whole battalions and Chapters rather than handfuls of warriors. I demonstrated the error of these beliefs on several occasions, creating effective resistance out of meagre resources that Roboute had considered no longer viable.’
      ‘An occurrence to be proud of, I am sure,’ Kanar said evenly.
      ‘The cry of “no retreat” is meaningless to the Raven Guard,’ explained Corax, ‘a prideful boast rather than a sensible tactical doctrine. It was not until our third confrontation that Guilliman realised this for himself.’
      ‘To best one of the greatest strategos in the Imperium is no mean feat. We are blessed by your attendance.’
      ‘I make no such claim,’ Corax replied with a lopsided smile. ‘From the fourth simulation on, he had my mark and I could not beat him. He learns well, my brother, and he has far greater vision than me. While I was rescuing a single world from slavery, he was already building an empire of hundreds. I won battles against him, but never a war.’

    Corax recognised the adoration and trust that radiated from the deformed Raptor. He laid one massive hand upon the former legionary’s head, and the fingers of the other curled around his throat. The creature’s mouth worked a few times, and drool dribbled over Corax’s hand and fell to the floor in thick gobbets.
    ‘I remember everything, and I remember my exact words before I sent that fiend back into the warp-vortex that had birthed it...’
    Tears stung the primarch’s eyes.
    ‘I... I promised him that I would destroy every warp-spawned, Chaos-tainted creature in the galaxy before I die...’
    The mewling, groaning thing that had been Navar Hef met his gaze.
    ‘And I have always kept my promises, my son.’

    I don't think Guilliman would have any doubt about Corax's loyalty, and I think he is smart enough not to try to order him around either. He is a diplomat, possibly the best one at that, I think he would realize that he can't ever hope to fully control Corax, so he would try to point him in a diraction that alligns with his own goals. On the other hand I think Corax would cooperate to a fairly high extent, as he recognizes his brother's strategic genious. Over all I'd be surprised if they would not make a good duo at the helm of the Imperium.

    Given everything that happened during the Heresy and since his resurrection I feel like Guilliman knows better than start ordering a newly arrived brother around. Even with Corax's warp form in play I feel like Gman would take a page out of Vulcan's book and demand the biggest hug that's happened in the last 10K years.Their reunion would be great to see. I wouldn't mind the two of them putting the smackdown on Lorgar together. Getting Corax off the path of vengeance though will take some kind of intervention from Big E. even if that is just Guilliman reminding his brother of what their father fought for in the first place

      I think if Guilliman gives corvus a good enough reality check via showing him what absolute shithole the imperium has become... He might lay it off vengeance on his own. Or atleast tones it down to a borderline obsessed hunt for wordbearers. Like the dark angels with the fallen.

    I sort've think Corax could be convinced to lead a crusade to hunt down traitor legions/chaos within the Imperium or at least within the materium with his original legion or perhaps he just takes his chapter who are expected to draw from all their sucsessors to be an entirely 'elite' force now. I think that *probably* Lorgar has to be gone for that to happen, though maybe not, but I do think it would be possible to convince him that staying in realspace is really what's needed right now, it's just that without his father saying otherwise he literally would not stop pursuing vengance no matter what and needs to be given the capacity to do so, but even without speaking with big E I think he could be convinced, though I do think that nothing could convince him not to *try* speaking with his father

  • @jaqdraco
    @jaqdraco 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think Corax would be a great return, but that's easy because I'd be happy to see any and all loyalist Primarchs return.
    I reckon his return would be one of two things, either:
    - He'd arrive during a battle that Lorgar has taken to the field, appearing from the warp as a whispy shadow before coalescing into his solid form as he lands a lighting claw into the side of Lorgar who probably runs from the fight at the sight of Corax
    - He'd be 'caught/found' at he Emperor's throne trying to speak with him... Some Custodes would be seen nevermore in that reveal, no one would have a clue how he managed to break in (I'd argue it would simply be, like in the Inquisitor novel, the Emperor guided him in).
    I think he wouldn't really care too much about the state of the Imperium, it isn't his priority. He'd be very much a fighting Primarch leaving Rebooty to run the Imperium.
    Lords of Terra would probably try to tell him what to do and speak of loyalty to the Imperium, to which he would tell them they mean nothing, and the Emperor sets his path.
    Rebootyman would recognise he couldn't tell Corax what to do, there would however be massive value in supplying Corax with what he wants/needs and hopefully nudge him in a direction that aids the Imperium.
    He'd see the Primaris and be initially sorrowful as they would remind him of his own attempt to rebuild the legion. But, I think he would embrace them quickly once he set aside his own failure to his legion, as HE more than anyone else knew that the Emperor was ok with the Marines being tweaked into a better tool.
    I think Rebooty would give Corax the resources to essentially form his own Crusader fleet.
    While it maybe too much excitement for us to contain ourselves. It would be epic if Corax's Crusader fleet direction was dictated to by the simple words he'd whisper to Rebooty
    "I know where more of our Brothers are being held"
    This was the main reason he returned to the Imperium, because he needed an army to release one or more of the Loyalist Primarchs.
    and we'd be one step closer to the Grand Crusades of old with Primarchs leading their own fronts of compliance.

    Love Corax. With how long some of the loyalist Primarchs have been out of the picture, I think a challenge with having one return is giving a plausible explanation for the absence aside from "the warp works in mysterious ways." I could get behind Corax having spent all this time hunting down Word Bearers one by one, and it could be funny if he made a full comeback just because he got bored after running out of traitors to assassinate. My end-game headcanon would then be Corax leading an execution force to slap Lorgar around a little bit more.

I think he would ask, try to debate, and when the debate was done, give Corax his head and just say, "I leave you to the dictates of your conscience-I will supply and support you in full, and I will ask for your assistance when I need it. I will not command it, brother."

  • @leenan2345
    @leenan2345 ปีที่แล้ว

    A bit late to join the discussion, but I will do so anyway, so please excuse me. I think Guilliman might actually not have as much trouble urging Corax to his side as we might guess. If I remember right, when Corax was first brought into the Imperial fold, it was Guilliman who mentored him and spent time with him, so I'd hazard a guess that their bond is deeper and could possibl more affectionate than the bond between Corax and Dorn. Guilliman is also quite adept at being diplomatic, which lets be honest is not Dorn's strong suit, so I'd imagine he would know better than to think he could order Corax around as he pleased. Even 30k Corax didn't like to be commanded, I see no reason why Guilliman would think that would fly in 40k, especially if he notices the changes in his brother (as I am sure he will).
    Not too sure about how devoted Corax still is to the Emperor as well. Loyal, most certainly, just as much as Guilliman is still loyal. From my interpretation of Weregeld, after the failure of the Raptors project and discovering that he and his brothers are made of the warp, he has become quite disillusioned with the Imperium, the nature of the primarchs, and also with the Emperor himself. I honestly see his feelings towards the Emperor right now as similar to Guilliman. He loves his father still. Is loyal to him, probably. But I think his trust in the Emperor is fractured now, and I think he has lost faith in the Imperial Truth. If there is to be any conflict between him and Guilliman, I think it would be about the Imperial Truth and whether it is worth salvaging.
    But then again, I don't claim to be any sort of lore expert, so for all I know I could just be entirely, terribly wrong 😂 just wanted to put my thoughts out there though.

  • @umptischmutz
    @umptischmutz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If Corax tells Guilliman the same thing he told Dorn, I think there would be a brief argument but, ultimately, I believe Guilliman would concede to Corax's wish to hunt the traitor primarchs. I believe Guilliman would even go as far as to offer to identify the locations of the traitor primarchs who are active in the Imperium, like Magnus. Guilliman is practical, but he's not stubborn like Dorn.
    Of course, all this is assuming Guilliman survives his upcoming clash with Mortarion on Iax. We'll have to wait for "Godblight" for the conclusion of that tale.
    Hey Wolflord, here's an idea for a video: How would the Siege of Terra have played out if it had been Guilliman and The Lion at Dorn's side rather than Sanguinius and the Khan? Would the Ultramarines' numbers and the Dark Angels' brutal tenacity been a strong enough counter to the onslaught of the traitor legions?

    I think you're right. Corax would need to have audience with the Emperor. Without this... Corax would not be good to the Imperium or his sons. Corax being consumed with vengeance leads him down a road more akin to chaos and he needs to be reeled in somehow, before it is too late. Just like the rage of Sanguinous brought a terrible curse on to his sons. But you see the defiance in Corax when he returned to terra. The same defiance you see in all the traitor Primarchs. Dorn is the lord commander by the emperor's authority. Malcador is the regent by the emperor's authority. Yet Corax will not listen to them because he is focused on what he wants to do and not what the Emperor obviously wants. Had Dorn and Malcador agreed with him... He would not have need to speak with the Emperor.
    It's just like with Lorgar. It took the Emperor himself coming to rebuke Lorgar. He would not listen to Malcador. He actually assaulted Malcador which is akin to smacking the Emperor's authority.
    Deep down... Very few Primarchs think selflessly. Even when they do, its to serve their own best interests in their own way.
    And as we know eventually Corax ran off into the warp after the traitors. Obsessed with vengeance. And we know obsession of any kind is not the way of logic and reason but is a slippery slope to Slaneesh.
    If Corax returned he may overtly appear to be a savior, but his obsession with vengeance may be to the imperium's own detriment. Sort of like the dark angels obsesession for vengence and obsession to keep their secrets cause them to abandon the people of the imperium and disobey orders.
    Sure enough it seems really bad ass to see Corax doing what he does in this new form, but it seems a lot of fans get so consumed and caught up in the badassery they dont see the dark maniacal machinations of chaos twisting its coils into our beloved Primarchs.
    I'm all for keeping good guys good and bad guys bad. But seeing and hearing these same traits of Horus's defiance, Lorgar's defiance, Magnus, Angron, and even traits reminiscent of obsession like Fulgrim. It makes me sad to see Corax go in this direction. Many have fallen from grace believing the ends justify the means, but the chaos gods have proven time and time again, that misguided means, no matter how righteous the goal, will bring about your end.
    Corax is chasing a phantom. That's not Lorgar anymore. The daemon primarchs are no longer even real anymore. They are mirror reflections and fake disorted copies. Lorgar is actually dead and gone. Corax is chasing an endless loop and is caught in some type of warp purgatory. Corax needs to be saved, brought back to his senses, and released from this obsessive vengeance quest. The imperium needs him, not vengeance. He won't listen to Guilliman. He needs to be guided back to reason and the Emperor's light or else he will be forever lost.
    I would not be surprised if the other Primarchs are lost in and to the warp in a similar fashion. Locked in some infinte loop and endless quest manipulated by the warp and the chaos god's.

    Here's how I think should Guilliman and Corax run into each other. There's the elation at seeing each other once more after over 10,000 years. Probably some confusing sentences as they seek to find out how the other's doing before getting down to business. Corax refusing to obey Gulliman's orders to aid the Imperium once more. Gulliman needing all the help he can get begs Corax to at least return to Terra and have a one on one conversation with their father the Emperor. After that it'd be up to Corax, quite likely he'll take up Gulliman's offer to see the Emperor and after what seems like an eternity Corax would walk out of the throne room like Gulliman did, content yet confused, knowing what needs to be done. He'd work with Gulliman, and Dante in securing the Imperium's territory before spear heading a crusade to eradicate his traitorous brothers and their sons

    Corax has spent many thousands of years in the warp on his hunt. In all that time he has only come across one of his targets. And only one time at that. He has shown that he cares far more for his vengeance then he does for the Emperor, his sons, or humanity. Until something dramatically changes. He's stuck in the warp.
    Corax seems to have gained more powerful abilities from his time in the warp. If he leaves it will his abilities start to regress, closer to pre warp capabilities?
    When Corax does reemerge. There is little reason to believe he will suddenly become a team player. He will likely get a briefing then pick an objective for himself to go achieve. Then fly off into the sunset only to take far too long to achieve whatever he sent himself off to do.
    I have always wanted to like Corax, but have found very little to enjoy about him. I was hoping this series would show him in a different light. Like it has other primarchs. As his lore stands now. He's just far too edge lord. And take too much time to get anything done.
    The longer Corax takes to hunt down Lorgar. The harder it will become to beat him. Lorgar has mostly stayed in silent meditation. Know that he has come out of his meditation state as a very enhanced deamon primarch. He is embracing what ever his new position he sees for himself. Likely also becoming a better fighter. And for sure becoming a better psycher. He's still a primarch, and capable of setting up traps and safety precautions, against Corax.
    I'm greatful for the effort put into the focus on him. Maybe it would have been nice to see a little bit more about the Raven Guard.

  • @rebel1717
    @rebel1717 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I honestly think the likelihood of Corax is less far fetched than most believe. All that needs to happen is Lorgar coming to face Guilliman. Which may very well happen because Lorgar, nor Guilliman has forgotten the Razing of Monarchia. Though Guilliman expresses slight regret for it, Lorgar’s feelings hasn’t changed. And at the end of the fight, when it seems like Lorgar is going to escape once again, Corax appears, stopping Lorgar from returning to the Warp and allowing Guilliman to take his traitor brother’s head. Then from there, the Imperium has a second loyalist Primarch back.
    I also hope Corax is scorned by the current day Emperor. Because like Guilliman, Corax expected his father to be elated at another one of his sons returning to the fold, a son that he was even closer to than Guilliman. All these expectations only to be let down and hurt by his father’s humanless corpse. This will shake Corax’s loyalty to the Emperor, and this in turn will further improve Guilliman and Corax’s relationship.
