Agreed. I used to have an Edelbrock and thought it was great and I guess I still do. I now have a double pumper and took the time to learn as much as I could about it (there's always more that I could learn though) . I've been running the Holley for over a year now and I love it.
Uncle Tony, I enjoy the heck out of all your videos. Currently restoring a '72 Dart and a '78 Dodge Adventurer and your videos help me a lot. Really hoping you make the shirt "I am the computer!" I'll buy it!
WOW, Tony. Thanks a bunch for bringing back Fond memories. Of tuning and setting up the normal Holleys and the Double Pumpers. Had a Large double on my 350 Chevy small block. Just finished my 302 install that I talked to you about on live stream once! It's bored out to a 312 that's why I called it that during the stream. I got the engine basically running but my timing is way off so after I get that I put a basic carb tune like the one you mentioned here on it. Thank you so much for many great years of expert advice! Thanks Uncle Tony you have simplified the Process and made it very easy for me to dial in my Holley Carb you have given me the confidence and Knowledge I was after your Da Man and I mean that Sincerely it was a Pleasure watching your Video and Thank you Greatly Appreciated
People, usually under 40, ask me why I don't run EFI. I tell them you can't beat carbs for cost, ease of tuning and performance. Yes, it took me years to really fine tune my skills with carbs, but once you do then the cost and performance advantages really shine. Thanks for keeping the flame bright Uncle T!
I bought a new Holley 2300 and installed on an AMC 304. I just didn't run right, so my son and I watched this video and followed the directions. Once we got to adjusting the idle jets it all felling place and everything runs great. thanks

we used to rebuild these carbs 40 yrs ago when we had a fleet of 460 fords. you are spot on when it comes to the external adjustments. we were always replacing the 'power valve', usually a eng back fire would take it out... the problem we had was that very few guys knew how to rebuild them & set them up. an old school mech showed me how & it wasn't that bad once you rebuilt a couple of them.. i was glad when they sold off those 460 fords though!

Thanks so much for your videos. I greatly appreciate them! This seems to be an artform that this slowly disappearing. My girlfriend has her grandpas trucks (69' F-100) and it seems to start/crank just fine. We replaced the carb with a refurb'd motorcraft carb, since we couldn't get her accel. pump to stop leaking (even after a rebuild). It not longer leaks after the carb replacement, however the truck will crank, start and idle just fine- even without the use of the manual choke- but after it warms up (like driving to work), the truck will lose power and eventually stall. It won't run again until after a good 15 minutes or so have passed. We have spark- and the truck doesn't appear to respond to carb cleaner when sprayed. After it cools down though, it acts as if nothing has happened. I'm "new-aged" mechanically inclined- so I'm somewhat familiar with engines in general, but this whole carb thing fly's completely over my head. She wants to sell the truck- but it starts up and drives so good, that I believe that it's just a tuning issue- or something that happens AFTER the truck has warmed up, and goes away once cooled down a bit. Not sure why I'm writing this long post. I'll go back through from step one and see if I can't better describe the issue that we're witnessing and then report back. Great video Tony, back to basics. Hey Uncle Tony, been having issues with my Holley 390 cfm on my checy 230 straight six. It ran like crap. Followed your tips and got to say the engine is smooth as silk now. Thank you sir.

Spot-on carb setup tips! Follow these directions and you should have Fuel injection-like drivability and throttle response. Maybe not cold start perfection but damn near it.
Thank you for breaking it down! I just purchased an old square body Chevy truck that has one of these on it, and let's just say it is really out of whack right now. This will at least give me a starting point. Thanks again
just what i needed... 71 mustang 408 stroker, quickfuel SS 750 holley carb running rich and fouling plugs.. i will try to tune again before messing with internal jets, which I have never done, reco on the jets has been come down two step... i hope i don't have to do that after watching this video!! thanks, bro!!
THE SIZING OF THIS DESIGNED PART is everything, just like sizing the cam for the use, this carburetor has been masterminded since 1970,me, is use the 350 500 cfm two barrels for all of my needs, for drag racing and top end speed, its a proven track winner, LINDSAY proved two of them were even better than mechanical fuel injection on the fastest SUPERBIRD in the world on the bonneville salt flats, carburetors are superior for total all out fuel flow,it was a normally aspirated and damn impressive hemi, they function pretty good on blowers too
Thanks for this video. I just recently purchased an 83 Camaro Z28 that had been swapped with a SBC 350, and have spent the last 2 weeks rebuilding most of the mechanicals from the ground up, replacing what needed replaced. I have it moving down the road now, but it needs some tuning, it has some hesitation when the throttle is mashed but accelerates smoothly if I ease into the throttle. I've never tuned a carb, but this video makes me think I at least have a shot at it. Holley DP 4150 is what I am working with. Thanks again!
Interesting information Uncle Tony, although the Holley Manuals can be jam packed full of Carburettor goodness, they can be a little vague at times. Wholly, I think the eagerness young blokes can be at fault here wanting bolton power - fit and forget so to speak - and wonder why they run into trouble for rushing a job they needed to take their time with. I believe the mystery of Holley Carburettor tuning is solved, so it makes more sense now. I did see and read an article last year where a double pumper was modified for street/bracket racing for aesthetics, power, metering and airflow, which was very interesting indeed. Thankyou for sharing this, Cheers :-)
Great refresher , as it's been , well lets just say I had hair way back then, in 1972, LOL and was tuning Rochester 4 Barrel carbs and some Holly's , Thanks for the video
You have to set all idle screws on the six pack I didn't know that 25 years ago had to get my dad to help back then very good info and a great channel thumbs up and subscribe
HAPPY Thanksgiving Uncle Tony and family! 🇺🇸🙏 Best wishes, always. Thank you for all your sharing. ❤ We are so lucky to be living in a time that provides us with teachers like you. Much appreciation from CA.
Thank you!!! I obtained a 79 vette from a good friend on mine and it always ran way out of whack. I noted the original settings once you explained what everything was. I followed your steps and now it's running great! It used to misfire, choke on start ups, way too high idling while cold, etc. What a difference!
Bought a 350 Chevy with a Holley. Leaked; replaced it with an Edelbrock that was laying around, runs great. Hope to build the Holley soon but looks complicated with the different cams, other adjustments and jet sizes. Rebuilt a Quadra jet years ago and it worked very well.
Absolutely great vid . Im in the uk and have a dodge d100 1971 , 318 v8 with holley carb same as the vid. The motor is burning oil pretty quick ( but no smoke coming from exhaust, even under load) It has a couple of oil leaks i need to address first, one of which is intake manifold gaskets. But these are only seeping/not dripping.. I also have oil coming out of the dipstick tube when pcv valve is fitted, if i remove and vent to atmosphere this doesn’t happen. ( was venting to atmosphere with pcv fitted anyway) It doesn’t struggle to start and even runs okay, smells like its running rich though . Never had anything like this car wise and worrying ive bought something that may need more work than i would have liked . 🤦🏻♂️
Perfect Step one ! Now I want the step 2 and the advanced tuning for my 72 Satellite ! Keep goin' man, you're the best, i watch all your videos ! Greetings for you and uncle Katty ! Nico, from France.
You are the Man. Not only you have the knowledge, you can also transmit it. I was wandering if you could help me with a question please. I am now 67 years old, and in my younger days I use to work on cars. Recently I have changed a 1986 Automatic Full size Bronco 351 Cleveland rebuild and with no many miles on it, from dedicated "LPG", back to Petrol, ( or what you guys in the States call "GAS", I live in Australia by the way). I fitted a 600 Holley Vacuum secondary which I had put it together at least 20 years ago. It starts at first go and idle to perfection and smooth, but I smell fuel vapour at starting, more like an exhaust fumes like, even in the engine bay. Accelerates smooth and quick .I changed the" MSD" mechanical advance bush into the blue , All up I have 32 degrees advance with 11/12 basic. the bush for LPG I had to make it myself because it didn't existed in the distributer kit , etc. .Once on the road I'll have to finally tune the through out springs, to suit the mechanical advance. Question is... : way it smells so reach??,. adjusted "carter" electric fuel pressure to 6 PSI with cold temperature anther the bonnet and engine . Fuel pump should start together with the starter motor solenoid at firs ( because of the safety switch installed), but, because it is/was only a Sunday car, or just to go bush, when I rebuild the engine I fitted a secondary oil pick up, Just a tube like, just off the inside bottom of the oil sump) in other to pressurize the block before occasionally start it, and what it does, it starts the fuel pump a bit prematurely, maybe coursing a rich condition???. I didn't had this problem with "LPG". Or I am imaging thinks???? So I dropped the Fuel pump pressure to 5 and a 1/4 "PSI" , I will restart the truck tomorrow in day time.. " too late now". Will like to see if the enrichment is gone, but a good needle and seat valve and good float adjusted (as "I THINK" they are???), should stop extra fuel passing needle and seat, unless the "O" rings are flatted???? . The carburetor was kipped in a seal plastic box, and when started first time two days ago, the throttle plate leaked a drop or two only, out of the secondary side plate shaft, (and no more now),near the secondary vacuum unit. I hope I gave you enough description, I know is never enough. You response and opinion at your time, is very much appreciated. Kind Regards... "COS".
I always adjust idle mixture screws with a vacuum gauge finding peak vacuum. Once you find peak vacuum you can take that value and divide it in half to get you in a good range for the size of the power valve you need. Example 15 pounds of vacuum would be a 7.5.
Exactly. Some guys say thats wrong. They want you to check your Vac at your cruise speed, then go down a couple numbers (12" at cruise = 9.5" power valve) While it does kinda work at cruise speed (dumps fuel too early for me), where it really screws things up is taking off from a red light. My cruise Vac is 15", my idle Vac is 5", so I tried an 8.5" pv. When I take off, my Vac pings to 12" maybe, then drops to below 8.5". My power valve opens and dumps in fuel at 2000 rpms, part throttle (pings 10 afr when I want it 13.5 to 14:1 afr). I put in a 4.5" pv, all is good now
My problem and I have the Holley 80457-2 4 barrel. Starts fine, and revs fine sitting. I live in San Francisco and my car is struggling to get up the hills. Have had a full tune up, car electronic ignition, 350 Chevy eng. going up hill, struggling to achieve power, no surging, and I can put car in lower gear and no difference. Ideas? I thought could the mechanical fuel pump be bad? Car has 2,800 miles on a 18 year old engine.
Thanks for the video and for sharing your knowledge, Tony. Holley carbs or any carb for that matter: It's all about physics and math. ( I'm glad that Holley did a good job with that and documented it for the masses.) I've been using Holleys since the 1960s and love them. In the 1980s, Holley came out with the 4010 & 4011 series, (which is no longer produced by Holley). They were my favorites for street use because they had annular discharge boosters and the float bowls were cast into the carb's housing, so obviously no leakage from there. All of the "consumable parts" that fit the 4150/4160s, like floats, needle and seats, accelerator pump diaphragms, ect. fit these carbs. The only issue was finding the correct squirter size which, unfortunately, was cast into the booster assemblies so you had to replace the whole damned thing. When these carbs went out of favor, Holley didn't waste any time quitting the making specific parts, like the boosters. Summit Racing saw something in these forgotten carbs and bought the design. It's now sold in a much more refined version that provides for tunable squirters and idle fuel circuits. The design that originated at Holley became the basis for these durable and dependable carbs. I've got a 600-CFM, vacuum secondary version on my late model 5.0 that sits in my 67 Mustang Fastback. (I just had to say that) Also, I don't want to sound like a salesman, but I'm just sayin'. It's a damned good design that's affordable and doesn't constantly need attention. There's one more thing to add: The old Holleys were heavy because they were cast in zinc. Zinc and ethanol don't like each other, even 10% ethanol has given me issues if the fuel sits in the carb for a while. The 4010 and 4011 series were all aluminum which was something new for Holley in the 1980s. There was the discovery of a casting method during that time that made intricate parts more easily cast in aluminum at a reasonable cost. It seems that most of the 4150s and 60s sold today are aluminum as well as those Summit units derived from the 4010 & 4011. The zinc castings are still available from Holley, FYI. Thanks again Uncle Tony. You've got a good channel that shows the world that there's more than Chevrolets out there that go fast.
Your one in a million that actually just gets down into information and showing the process. Not self glamorizing and posturing. Your awesome man hope this gets to help people

I’m rebuilding my metered fuel leak this while my Mopar gets a break from constant burning tires this winter. This video is a huge help!
Spot-on carb setup tips! Follow these directions and you should have Fuel injection-like drivability and throttle response. Maybe not cold start perfection but damn near it.
Great tutorial on how to adjust your Holley carburetor have a good day Tony and say hello to Aunt Kathy for me
Thanks Tony! Reminded me of my old man teaching this stuff to me when I was a kid. Do it enough and you develop a “calibrated ear”.
Thanks for this video! Best explanation and helpful info I've seen or heard yet! Definitely makes it easier to do and understand. Thanks again!
Love this carb video series. Really explains it and makes it so a shade tree like me can adjust the carb CORRECTLY!!!
Man... I set my carby exactly as you said...and my car is running SWEET....Now....Thanks
You have to set all idle screws on the six pack I didn't know that 25 years ago had to get my dad to help back then very good info and a great channel thumbs up and subscribe
BEST DAMN INFO on the Holley. Better that calling the Holley manufacture tech line. THANK YOU!!!
HAPPY Thanksgiving Uncle Tony and family! 🇺🇸🙏 Best wishes, always. Thank you for all your sharing. ❤ We are so lucky to be living in a time that provides us with teachers like you. Much appreciation from CA.
I'm 19 and just bought a 79 ranchero gt 351m. It is my first car with a carb and I'm excited to to learn how to tune it
Your video helped me a lot on the Holley carb I bought for my 1980 460 Cu in Ford motor. Dying to put it on, thank you very much.
Thank you!!! I obtained a 79 vette from a good friend on mine and it always ran way out of whack. I noted the original settings once you explained what everything was. I followed your steps and now it's running great! It used to misfire, choke on start ups, way too high idling while cold, etc. What a difference!
Thanks Uncle Tony, I made a new friend in my neighborhood cuz of this video.
thanks a ton, was about to F this up on a car I just got, I'm that guy that routinely turns screws to figure it out. This got me where I need to be
Thanks for the awesome tips! Your generosity of information is greatly appreciated.
Very informative! I've always played with Edelbrock carbs and needed the Holley basics for my new project. Thank you for the video.
Best explanation easy to get confused on carbs you explain it perfect
Tony, locks eyes with Tom Hanks: I am the computer now.
perfection , uncle tony is an amazing teacher
Thanks for the info!! Needed this quick step by step guide. Haven’t set up a carb in 10 years, didn’t know much then and I forgot everything lol
hands down best video on youtube
Absolutely great vid . Im in the uk and have a dodge d100 1971 , 318 v8 with holley carb same as the vid.
The motor is burning oil pretty quick ( but no smoke coming from exhaust, even under load)
It has a couple of oil leaks i need to address first, one of which is intake manifold gaskets. But these are only seeping/not dripping..
I also have oil coming out of the dipstick tube when pcv valve is fitted, if i remove and vent to atmosphere this doesn’t happen. ( was venting to atmosphere with pcv fitted anyway)
It doesn’t struggle to start and even runs okay, smells like its running rich though .
Never had anything like this car wise and worrying ive bought something that may need more work than i would have liked .
🤦🏻♂️
Great video, probably the best I have come across on TH-cam. You should make it a series and get into the more advanced stuff small steps at a time.
"COS".
That was great! Ill be working on my Holley tomorrow to see if I can ge the mixture right. Good work!
This is the go-to online manual to adjust a holley for sure! Great work Tony!
I love the Holley carburetors!!! Waiting to hear about fine tuning.
Just got an 80 Camaro with a single feed Holley video was definitely helpful for understanding this a little better👍🏻
They want you to check your Vac at your cruise speed, then go down a couple numbers (12" at cruise = 9.5" power valve)
While it does kinda work at cruise speed (dumps fuel too early for me), where it really screws things up is taking off from a red light.
I put in a 4.5" pv, all is good now
Best videos to watch I lov how you discuss and show in detail you hav helped out so much keep up the great videos 👍👌
Thanks for the great video uncle Tony! I've never ran a Holley before, so this video will help big time.
You've got a good channel that shows the world that there's more than Chevrolets out there that go fast.
i saw this video and passed it up later i saw it again and said what do i know and watched it anyway...learned sumthin too thanks tony
