This is once again the brainchild of lead presenter Danny Butler and takes an honest look at the trials industry as it is in 2024. No topic is off the table and this is an authentic trial conversation. Taking the experienced opinions of some of the UK's most influential riders. Just starting Trials at 50, done a couple of days at Trials Day with Stu and just had a day at NonStopTrials. Stu and his team and Pete/Clint are excellent and do exactly what you explained. Its the easiest motorsport I've done in terms of getting in to and everyone is willing to help and explain. Booked my first trial on my Vertigo and cant wait. May need to move north a little to access more trials :-)

Observers are the best when they put up so much time to organize trials for everyone. Especially getting trophies for everyone in all classes. It’s so much fun sport.

Like the discussion about classes and progression. When I started out in late 70's Youth didn't exist and in an open trial there was only one route for both Novices and Experts (no other class) so there were certain trials you didn't do for a year or so. The introduction of Youth, different classes just makes it safer to learn. Interestingly top riders always had skills they developed. Mick Andrews ran trials schools in the 80s and we had him at our club. There was one very tricky bank and stream section which even our experts were dabbing. Mick Andrews took everyone's bike and with no set up changes cleaned this section every single time

Another great podcast guys, Ripon motor club are a club who run every type of trial from beginners to British GP trials, they have also took on board the electric scoring system which works so well

Danny, you never got to finish (at 33 mins in) telling us how you went from 'flower child' on a motocross bike, to trials. (Your dad was a moto GP mechanic. Very cool.) Next time finish that progression. Interesting to hear. I too went from motocross to trials but mainly because of too many injuries in motocross. (Also good to explain (for newbies) and elaborate a bit more about why the stop and hop is easier to observe, and more about why Toni Bou supported that.) I have only ever done non-stop back in the day.)

Great pod cast again, but Stu said give all observers a stop watch ,has he tried observing in the wood s, in the rain , wearing glasses ,with a que of riders waiting at a section , and you’ve been at section for 5 hours and you could do with a cup of something and a bite of a cheese roll .. at club level we struggle to get 16 observers on any Sunday , we can’t come up with time timed sections , l totally agree with stopping now as sections are set harder , l spoke to a fellow observer last week and he suggested , wear a whistle if a rider stops the time it takes to lift up is the stop limit . The debate will go on .keep up the great work .

Love these shows, 05 last time i was at hawkstone a rember round the tents on a the night people had found loads off pallents and we were messin on with the pedal bike trials bikes, saracen mad a had on magura hydrolic rim brakes a littraly never eat at school for months saving up for them bad lads haha, would love anouther world round hear a very exciting weekend, a like the new rules aswel, i always was tought old school riding so hopping about doesnt come natural but im getting there as iv got back into it definilty getting better at it, hard to practice though as my local trials are all non stop, anyway love the show top job

No stop is what stopped me riding trials. I got into trials at the time BECAUSE of Tarres elevating it to the next level. Luv Schreiber, just didn't want to ride his style.

the best part of the podcast is, it’s so relatable!, i grew up riding classic trials on a 1972 Whitlock framed Ossa MAR, as a 17 year old riding that i wasn’t cool with all my mates riding modern trials bike or mx bikes but god it was great to ride. I left trials to ride enduros, cut a long story short, i bought my son a geared Beta 50 last year and he loves it so i’ve sold the enduro bike and recently bought a Vertigo DL12 250 and god what a capable machine these modern bikes are!.
Keep up the good mix of twin shock and modern bikes.
Are you looking at having guests on the podcast in the future?

Well done DB and crew , another solid sit-down and chat. @23.00 the comment about the level of riding that the new kids are witnessing and coming into is SO spot on Danny ,
Toni Adam Dougie Cabby and and all the other greats before them got to ease into the progression from the old style to the new over a longer period of time ,
the new kids are looking at the peak of the last 35+ years of trials riding experience and have to hit the ground running at such a high level.
Yes its effecting the current stable of talent , They have the mountain of experience from generations of riders of the past condensed down into the elite up to date style of modern trials to contend with , and that's the starting point 🤯,
Fair play to them for even attempting ,,, and lets be honest Eventually Succeeding ,
I compare it to Skateboarding in the sense of progression , back in the 90s You had to see better skaters to know what's possible , and that was VHS videos and Magazines once a month , kids now can just absorb every style from the 70s to current skaters on TH-cam and then they go and try and replicate it (and even give how to tutorials , If I had that in the late 90s FML ,
its just progression and innovation , great to see it , amazing that all of the blood sweat tears and skill is passed on purely by watching participating sharing and banter at any level and being inspired by what's possible for our time.
can't wait for the next Podcast , 10/10

Whats the chance of getting some old bikes for comparison against some new ones , yeah i know its about progress and pushing new bikes but people like me will never own a new bike and wouldn't mind knowing if i should bother trying that section or not kinda thing ,. I know its all possible on anything but when your fifty i dont have the time to find out and I'll never be good enough to max out a bikes capabilities 😂. Can you back to back some bikes for skint beginners 😢 .nice one 👍🏼
All bikes are worth getting old and new, that’s the great thing about trials is the sheer ability to make every bike (no matter how old or new) conquer the obstacle!
I’m an American rider and want to come see a big trial event next year in the UK. I would just be spectating. Would you recommend attending the DL12 or the Scottish Six days?

Thanks guys, content appreciated,. I'm 50, bought a 2003 gas gas built a track in the garden , my back,neck hips have been knackered for years and the recovery time is savage ,. But wow , its taken me 50 years to get here ,. Its just brilliant,. I'll never be that good but its just such a good way to spend a day . 2liters of petrol And a smile .
