    Starting with teaching beginners where to focus their attention towards is a very wise place to start. It's a personal hobby of mine to watch fighting game beginner guides (despite being quite experienced with the genre) because I wanna see the most educational and useful guides out there, and this video (and the first) are shaping up to be quite high on that echelon, maybe even #1. I wish you the best and I hope that you continue the series, you certainly have a didactic touch.

    this is the first fighting game tutorial i've seen that actually talks about how to practice techniques one doesn't fully understand yet, through experience. "get into games with opponents better than you, and try only to make the match as long as possible" is such a good tip!

      Thats part of how i learned when i started
      I figured i would focus on only defending because when my opponents were better than me thats the one thing i could most consistently practice
      And when learning having some reliability means a lot

    Excellent job - This was very helpful to me. Finding good tutorials and learning resources within the FGC is hit & miss. A lot of pros and long-time players have trouble teaching something that has been so ingrained in their brains for decades. They take for granted how complex simple mechanics can be for a new player.
    I look forward to learning more from you!

    Brilliant video. Suprisingly when I first started playing fighting games my defance was good but I struggled at finding the right moment to attack when defending, so I just stood there blocking but not attacking and eventually getting my ass kicked

    Nice video. One point that I will highlight (altho you probably know already) is that while the main point of self-defense irl is preservation, a video game's goal is to determine a winner, and that inherently requires progress. Due to this, martial arts will often focus on defense and escape first (preservation) while fighting games need to focus on attacks before all else (progress). After all, it doesn't make sense to engage in an escapable fight irl and risk potent injuries or to have immaculate defensive technique but no way to make progress in a fighting game.

    Feints are very good to help disrupt your opponent as well, though they blur the line between offence and defence. Moves which have a wind up that can be cancelled into a simple disengagement, sidestep or even a crouch or jump; moves that can be cancelled into a throw? Wonderful feints. A good example from real life (ish) watch the fight between Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee in Return of the Dragon. This fight gives excellent examples of jabs (or pokes), feints, broken rhythm, distance control, when to grab and footwork in an attack as well as being simply badass!

    Your Videos are so good! I really like that you use a lot of different Fighting Games as examples and not just focus on a few instead. And your analogy's to real Martial Arts in the beginning of the Videos is also very helpful, as the Games are usually not realistic, but they still use real world Martial Arts as a basis. It always reminds me of what I've learn in Kyokushin Karate. And I like your accent! Greetings from Germany ;)

    Wonderful video! This is a topic i dont see many people covering, and you did it well. Alongside stuff like not really focusing on their opponent, i think one thing beginners struggle with is when to block, or for how long. I often see many of my friends not blocking mids on wakeup or randomly getting hit during a blockstring. I struggle with that last part myself when im new to a game, i was very impatient during my first few hours of melty blood and kept trying to abare myself outta there for some reason. Patience is super important.

    I think anotger good exercise to begin with, is to play against people and focus only on poking and doing the antiars, not even try to do complex combos or win. Jus practicing this and geting consistent will eventually get easier to controll space an hit confirming combos.

  • @thestorythief
    @thestorythief ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd like to point out that while you use "low profile" to describe moves that go under certain pokes or projectiles, the opposite term is not a mirror, because "high profile" is not a real-life term. Low profile is. In general, people will refer to a move that goes OVER low moves as a "low crush" (presumably because these moves usually move downward, crush felt more appropriate.)
    Just in case anyone goes looking for more examples, "correct" (or I suppose, common?) nomenclature is helpful.

    • @MougliFGC
      @MougliFGC  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did mention that it's not a commonly used term, but I didn't make it up (just search for it on Dustloop or Mizuumi).
      Crushing moves are a different thing that wasn't in the scope of this video.

    I can't decipher the hands for the life of me, so lately I've payed attention to the chin to break throws in Tekken. No chin = Left, All chin = right, Forward chin = 2 hand. I haven't tried this yet on the non human characters yet though

    Funnily enough, in Tekken 7 specifically, you can break normal throws with either punch button. It's command grabs that mandate breaking with 1, 2 or 1+2.
