Of course, it’s a large state and I lived in only one small area. However my point here is that this story that I’ve heard so many times and will never tire of, contained a few new details I’d never known before, such as that Bishop Zumarraga requested Castilian roses as a sign from Our Lady, and I’d never heard that he had placed Mexico City under an interdict. I truly wish we could now the names of these fine priests from Sensus Fidelium but they always maintain their anonymity. Father, whoever you are, thank you for your homily . I don’t know where the priest is getting his research, but the monarchs of Spain at the time were very clear on their position regarding the indigenous people, and implemented laws to protect their rights, something that the British colonizers never did. Obviously there were abuses committed by the Spanish but it was not legal to do so according to the Spanish crown.
