    As the great Roland Dyens said about Tchaickovsky and Chopin: "I both love them and hate them. I hate them because they didn't write a single note for the Guitar... and I love them for the same reason, because it gave me an opportunity to do some work as an arranger... I love arranging, its the job of a designer, the house has already been built by the architect (composer)... the test of a good guitar arranger is to make the listener believe that the piece was originally written for the guitar."

      Even the classical guitar and accordion is invented in the 19th century but the guitar isn't popular in that time. The busker on that time mostly prefer the accordion over the guitar. Since the guitar and accordion both are the mobile accompaniment instrument can be bring to travel and mostly will be played by homeless guy in the 19th century. And the accordion and guitar is became best friend. The accordion is just the wind version of guitar and the guitar is the string version of accordion.
      Example:
      Piano vs Pipe Organ
      Guitar vs Accordion
      Violin vs Tenor Saxophone
      Double Bass vs Tuba

    I do love the sound of the piano but there is something magical about hearing these transcriptions for guitar!
    How many strings does a piano have!? Sources say that on average it's around 230...and you can accomplish such a full sound with 6!
    Hats off!

    • @terryhayward7905
      @terryhayward7905 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      To play a note on a piano, you press a key, that lifts a rod through a lever, that then pushed a hammer up to hit the string which is then damped by a pad depending on a pedal position.
      To play a note on a guitar, you put your finger on the string.
      A guitar is an extension of the musician.

    • @TheVoitel
      @TheVoitel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The guitar definitely offers much more control over tone and articulation than the piano does, although the piano is quite unmatched in the potential of differentiating single notes in a chord (a pianist can make a single chord sound in many different ways).
      But these 230ish strings are there to create volume. This is something not apparent here, has the guitar is recorded from close, but in a bigger hall you would hear much less from the guitar than from a piano, even if that guitar projects exceptionally well.

    It is nearly impossible to write intricate pieces for the guitar unless you yourself are really good at the instrument. Knowledge from other instruments doesn't carry over too well, so it's no surprise many of the old masters did not compose for it.

    Actually, I just realized that this classical "piano pieces" played on the guitar is waaay harder and technical than most electric guitar speedy riffs and solos. Not to mention more melodic. It only proves even "slow" music is actually really wonderful to listen. Cheers!

    Hello Lucas, another wonderful video! I'm mostly commenting to say thank you for all the inspiration you've given me since I first saw your Autumn Leaves in 10 levels of difficulty in late 2019. I was just starting to learn jazz guitar and Autumn Leaves was my first song to learn and I was floored by your skill. You played a tremolo part in there, a technique which I had never seen before, never having consumed any classical guitar music. By the following April I was attempting to learn Recuerdos, which after three weeks gave me tendonitis and that was pretty much it for me and attempting tremolo :). Still, your videos inspire me to keep learning jazz and classical pieces, and I wanted to thank you for that. You are an amazing guitarist!

    OUTSTANDING!
    Vladimir Ashkenazy is my favorite pianist so he is my go-to for Chopin.
    It seems critical and biased but the pianists were mechanical dot-readers. It all sounded stilted with no expression although they were trying to 'sell' it with body motion. Then you played with all of the expressiveness that only fingers on wires can do and the music sounded like... well... musical... instead of a math competition.

    Gymnopedie arrangement was beautiful! I love your channel, not my usual sort of music or style of playing ( my style is best described as 'ham-fisted') but man I really love your soul and technique! (And Metallica but it's jazz)

    Usually when I’m warming up to play the guitar I play a piece of “jesu joy of man’s desiring” or Bach’s “minuet”, they sound beautiful in the guitar, and are easy to play.

    I'm a classical guitarist, but i've played that exact Chopin waltz on the piano. I really want to play the whole piece for guitar! It sounds wonderful! Waltzes sound marvelous on the guitar. Chopin is my favorite composer and as you said, it's really upsetting that he didn't ever write anything for our instrument. We've been pretty ignored by classical music most of the time :(
