Thanks for the video! My brother purchased a 1971 cl450 in 1974. He recently passed away in the process of reviving it. He had purchased all the parts to do the job over the years, and did a lot of aluminum polishing! He needed a shift shaft replaced and has all the parts to do it. I can't revive Him, but I will revive his bike as soon as I thin my heard of bikes to make room.. Thanks to your video I have the courage to do it!
@@bonsaitigerMTB Unfortunately his wife got tired of Me postponing the sale while I got things ready to buy it (didn't have the room) Thankfully one of his friends got it and it is now running!
@@GlGl-sg1vk I have a question! Is it possible to remove the last clutch drum without removing the oil filter? I'm having the damnedest time getting the oil filter out and am wondering if it's possible to skip that.
Ed Christie I got it! 😄 A little tapping with a socket. Then I sharpened some needle nose and got it in there. Then came the next step. It would not pull out. Had to get a longer M6-1.0 bolt and screw it all the way in to push the filter out.
If you are asking if you can split the cases after removing the shifter shaft and the other things in this video. You would also need to remove the opposite side covers. It is not the way I would typically do it but I cannot think of any reason why not. I believe I have done one like that that had very stuck pistons, so I just dropped the bottom out to save what I could.
As I remember, the shifter side was partially torn down previously so the circlip was likely already popped off. This is one of the first videos I ever made, it is honestly not very well done.
The case screws? I would try a left handed drill bit first, this will work about half the time in my experience. Failing that, drill the heads off, remove case and use vise grips on what is left.

It is not as bad a job as it seems. That would be a good way of remembering him. Thanks.
Aw man this broke my heart! You ever get round to reviving your brothers bike?

@@GlGl-sg1vk love that. Nice work man.

Archangel by Burial?! Great taste in music!!
Great information in this video
Thanks!
Man, that oil filter snap ring is tough to get off. I’ll try your needle nose method. Thank you.
Ed Christie ah yes. I’ll try tapping it too. Thank you. I’ll let you know how it goes.

After the gear shifter has been removed, is the bottom ready to be halved?

@@theeddies Thanks, trying to get to the kickstarter gear.
when you removed the shifter shaft, did the spindle stop and circlip just pop off on the other side?

I found it super helpful!
@@TheSjeffries I am glad, thanks!, a few people have said the same, that is why I left it up.
If those screws strip what's the best way to get them off?
