In part 4 of our Honda CB450 engine rebuild we prepare the cylinder head to be installed on the cylinders. Cam chain guides are bolted in place, and new chain dampers are dropped on the camshafts. Cam followers are lubricated and installed on their respective adjusters and the camshafts are placed in each side of the head with the end covers bolted on to hold them in place. A dab of three bond gasket sealer is applied to the cylinder head dowels and the head gasket is installed in prep for the head.

Did I somehow miss it or did you skip over the rebuild of the head, I was looking forward to seeing how those unusual valve springs worked.

I noticed a few things in the rebuild video that I wondering about. Did you not reinstall the four, .2 mm spacers on the ends of the camshafts? Also, what about the thrust washer on the tach drive?

Learn from your partner. Don't wear rings on your fingers while working on Engines. Enjoyed your video

Just grab your favorite size Allen key, and bring your setup to IKEA customer service, and have them do it. Works like a charm

I'm having trouble with the exhaust cam being way too tight and I can't get the tac cover on without trying to force it. I've followed your video and everything else has fit exactly as it should. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

Am I losing my mind or is the valve installation not shown in this video series?

at 14:19 you mention the tach drive, this is the part I'm missing on my bike, is that something I can buy on your website? I haven't been able to locate, so wondering if im searching the wrong term?

Huh no thats the correct term but definitely something you have to either hopefully find a good condition one on eBay or get a used engine to pull it out of. Its usually not missing!

@@Common-motordiscovered on a cb450 I got today the cover that has the tach drive has a hairline crack on the exterior by one of the fastener holes. Although I’ve found a nos replacement, seen some discussions online that you can’t replace that specific part with another on these Honda engines as they aren’t just cam or valve covers they retain bearings for the cam and were bored in a straight line with the rest of the head, and thus match the head they came with. Got any advice on that please?

I love that series! Did you forgot the spacers for the camshaft or was it intentional?

Not all cams will need the spacers. Dependeds on the casting tolerances.
