IT GOES DEEPER THAN YOU THINK. I read that "For one, ton fears growing old. is what Helen becomes. Both women become as . And, of course, ville. [the creator] says that the names of the three main characters were deliberately chosen so that their shortened forms read (Madder Than Hell)."
She kinda cut off Mad trying to BS her saying her marriage to Earnest has been great. Mad was probably using that as a trump card to try to dangle the fact that she ended up with Earnest to use against her.
That moment, when Madeline realizes Helen's looks are authentically fantastic & more than she could come close to achieving with any amount of surgery or makeup & turns to retreat is film GOLD.
That slow walk she takes towards Helen shows so much vulnerability in the character of Madeline. She tries to straighten up to look more pristine and slowly realizes how perfect Helen looks before the retreat. It is pure genius. Fading out the background noise and the slow motion of it. Just perfect acting and filming
This scene is so great. Madeline realizing she's not going to win this fight and could only lose in comparison. And Helen RELISHING this. Hey when your competition is simply unable to shed thirty years in a second, what you're gonna do 😉
@@classicfilmclips777 I think this is one of those cult films that can't be remade, the story, the reality, the acting!, just unforgettable and inmortal as the characters
That would have been the perfect revenge, if only he had kept that precise moment. Seeing that Helen was able to overcome Madeleine and be successful despite what she did to her. Watching Madeleine become bitter and old while she remains beautiful and successful would have been perfect. Looking for Ernest was a mistake, her greatest revenge against him would have been her indifference, making him see that he means nothing to her and that now he is trapped, a narcissistic and finished woman.
He is not worth it. He was an object that Madeline only wanted to feed her toxic victory over Helen cause Madeline had self-esteem issue that thrives on superiority. And Helens lack of self esteem issues were passive and she thought getting Ernest back was going to set her life right cause the pain didn't go away.
Love her leaving a big movie-star lip-print on Mad's face (like Mad did to her after the Songbird performance)!! Big power move, and yet Helen looks so disgusted to be doing it 😜
Sad thing is had made move on with her life(her book, losing Weight, having a husband and kids) she would have been fine and happy given how mad and ern were already in a karmatic hellhole but she devoted herself to revenge and ended up paying the price
First of all, he was a doctor (i.e., plastic surgeon). Secondly, he was manipulated by them both against the other; he was a pawn in each of their schemes.
Then they tried to make him drink Lisle's potion and make him immortal, just to bind him to do maintenance work. Needless to say, Ernest didn't want that and abandoned both Helen and Madeline.
I love the fact that they called each other “Mad” and “Hell”
Very well observed!
😂
Also, they call Ernest "Ern" (i.e., urn)
Mad + Ern + Hel = madder than hell

She didn't even give her the satisfaction of saying "I stole him from you" that was a brilliant power move!!
Well, they deserve each other.
That kiss on the cheek may as well have been on the mouth. Those ladies were made for each other 😂
14 yrs ago Mad told Hell "It's been so long, don't you dare say how long", and now: "12 years, 12 LOOONG YEARS"
She kinda cut off Mad trying to BS her saying her marriage to Earnest has been great. Mad was probably using that as a trump card to try to dangle the fact that she ended up with Earnest to use against her.
Well look at him. "I stole him from you"... LMAO 🎉
Goldie Hawn was 47 at the time of the film and she looked fantastic.
Wow!
47??????????? How old was Meryl??? 😮😮😮

and then when she finds out she's a complete fraud is even funnier

Still, the past can’t be erased and Helen caught her immediately.
The slowed walk and music fit perfectly when she approaches Helen 😂😂
Envy & malice can slow time.😅
😂
Golden Hawn is so gorgeous. She's one of the reasons I never feared 50. Not to take away from Meryl, she's fabulous too.
And so are you!
@@michaelwhite2823 And me! 😊
She wasn't actually 50 you know

Beauty is a weapon here
This is one of my favourite scenes. Love this movie.
Same here! It's a brilliant, much underrated movie.
@@classicfilmclips777 Its makes me laugh how arrogant Madelline is until she sees how Helen has lost weight and is slim all her confidence goes. Lol

The kiss 😂😂😂😂😂
She gave back the kiss Mad gave her 14 years ago, and that was the kiss of the death too

This film is so underrated. I love it. Black comedies are the best
It’s not underrated it’s iconic still to this day
"I fired her. Well, I thought about firing her!"🤣🤣🤣
The red on Goldie looked perfect. She should have kept it.. would've been good play on her name vs hair color
Her best look ever
"We're leaving."
"Nonsense, let's go talk to her!"
"Newd..."
Hell and Mad. What foreshadowing, yet so cleverly shrouded.
Mad? Hel! 🤣
😂
😂😂😂
This is a great film
absolutely! so underrated. I think many people didn't get just how dark a comedy it really is.
😂(when she says) *"50"* 😅
😂
Surprisingly eerie scene...the eeriest part of the picture...prob because it's the most realistic part
Probably the most beautiful Goldie Hawn has ever looked. This scene is just burned in to my brain.
0:38 genuinely haunting shot.
I'd love to find a clean version of the violin music that sound during Helen's reveal. Can't find it anywhere 😔
Bruce Willis' hey days! Good old days.
Best way to get revenge
I get it’s a movie but what the hell do they see in him 🤣
He's a plastic surgeon in the late 1980s... You're Welcome 🤗
They see the revenge they'll get on each other really

Great comment about letting Karma do its work.
Great comment about letting Karma do its work.
Love the bit looks as though she’s lost a few pound , can’t even finish the word as she’s flabbergasted at the new Helen
What I don't get with this movie is why 2 beautiful talented women are fighting over him, he is no catch at all and treated them both badly
First of all, he was a doctor (i.e., plastic surgeon). Secondly, he was manipulated by them both against the other; he was a pawn in each of their schemes.
He is McCain from Die Hard series!
