I just got back from spending 5 months in Thailand and a few months in the Philippines. There are some big pros and cons to both places. English speaking and the women in the Philippines are HUGE benefits. Thailand has the food and nice prices but from my experiences of trying to date over there it can be ROUGH AF. The women in Thailand really care a lot about your financial status. It is very similar to dating in the US in that regard, if you are looking for something serious. Dating for fun is easy to do in either place, I would say equally so.
Overall, I like the beaches, the women and ease of travel in the Philippines more. Thailand is going to be best if you like short term dating, more food options, and are on an absolute strict budget. Massage is slightly better in Thailand from my experience.
Thanks for all the info you guys, it is so helpful to know about retirement as I get closer.

I lived in Thailand for 6 straight months. You can load a food court card and use it to eat. You can get a really good meal there for about 60 baht which is less than $2.00 and an add-on item for about $3.00 and be completely satisfied. I also lived in the Philippines for 7 months straight and can tell you that it is cheaper to live in Thailand than the Philippines when you consider all aspects of things. Great quality housing options, an abundance of great food options, the cleanliness, ease of banking, no roosters noise, modern infrastructure, far less potholes and open sewages. I could go on and on but what would be the point. Thailand will be my homebase without a doubt. But I will still visit the Philippines from time to time as there are great things about the country that I really like.

I do truly appreciate your positive attitude and nature because in the states it's so wild right now with all the violence and high prices and the media has been able make all the craziness appear normal. As a so called black man who lived in the Philippines for awhile I can surely say nothing is normal about America today. Back in 2011 I knew the Philippines was the place to be, I think there are some crazy price hikes there as well that don't make much sense in condos and homes though. I've heard so many reports and have seen many comments saying it takes 2-3K/month minimum to live in the Philippines, a poor Asian country? What??? I mean you can live relatively well in a lot of places in the US for that, at least if you already are retired and own your home without a big car payment. Sure, if you travel and eat out a lot, maybe true. You can live in a decent subdivision here in a 3bdrm/2 bath townhouse with a great swimming pool and other amenities for about 220-300/month . But, one expense here that is quite high, is electricity, said to more expensive than practically anywhere else in Asia.
True, a lot of the food is not so healthy or tasty if you eat out, but fresh veggies and fruits are reasonably priced, and meats/fish can be delivered to you door, again reasonably priced (if you live in a decent subdivision). So you should cook at home whenever you can. I think the showstopper here, though, is the expectation of extended family 'welfare." Come on guys, how many of you railed against social programs while living in the US, only to become a benefactor in the Philippines? Not against assisting from time to time, but accepting a big monthly obligation as a term of endearment? Nah. You can probably afford a live in maid with benefits for much less, or a have a girlfriend as a partner. It is true that immigration is somewhat of a hassle and not really cheap (in the long run), but easily manageable. For banking, I won't give tips publicly, but you can keep most of your higher interest accounts in the US, and get money here if you set things up the right way before you leave. I do simple income tax returns on the side, and some computer work to pad my bottom line, but more as a hobby than necessity. I may not agree with Calvin on all points, but he does have a great vlog with a lot if interesting and useful content. :)

It's true. It's not cheap in the Philippines. And the BS in the Philippines is overwhelming. I live in Bacong near Dumaguete. If I don't go home twice a year I would go nuts. Everything you have to do here is a challenge. I'm sorry but I'm not crazy about the Philippines. I have a wonderful family in the Philippines, and that's what keeps me there.

    • @kennethedwards1677
      @kennethedwards1677 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@user-zl9vi8oc5d I agree! Few things are easy here, except maybe finding a party and getting drunk (not suggesting that!). Same here with a family, but I have hobbies that make things more bearable. For the coin of two round trip tickets to the states, though, you could travel and research a more suitable country to settle in. Cambodia has piqued my interest lately due to the easy visa policy and cheaper cost of living, but more research is needed.

I am not an expert on Taiwan, but once had a purchasing job that sent me to Taiwan two times during 2014. It is a beautiful country, with good infrastructure. It is a modern, high tech and clean country, with a functioning democracy. Most of all, the Taiwanese are among the most westernized in Asia. They pride themselves on being the opposite of Communist run China. That being, free, fair and open. To site an example Taiwan is the most LGBT friendly nation in Asia. Although I realize not everyone agrees with those orientations or lifestyles. Ok, I think what is stopping foreigners from seeking to retire or relocate to Taiwan as they are the Philippines and Thailand. Is quite literally the looming invasion and takeover of Taiwan by China. Most experts predict it is a matter of when not if it will happen. Taiwan is in a precarious predicament, as it is not recognized as an separate country from mainland China, by the world at large. Yet, it functions like an independent country, in all respects.

To each their own. I am in the same boat . I already live in the Pacific, about to retire, always thought I was going to retire in the Phils, after messing around with trips to the Phils and PInays for three years and also visiting Thailand, I have totally changed my mind. I don't believe anyone including Google that says the Phils is 30% cheaper than Thailand. I've been on the ground in both and I am do another two weeks in Phils & Thailand starting tomorrow. The more time I visit both it , for me, is obvious that Thailand is better in most ways. Food is 2x better in Thailand, infrastructure is perhaps 2x better, the availability of foreign goods is about 50% better IMHO if you are willing to go to Bangkok to shop. The cost of rent and elect is about the same in both but better buildings and more reliable elec in Thailand. Internet is better in Thailand where I've been. The retirement VISA in Thailand is less costly and easier than the Phils and you get to hang onto your own money in the bank. I have given up on retiring on the SRRV because I can retire in Thail for 50% of the hassle and less money on deposit.

What I mean is that in PH, in the party/nightlife/activity scene, in PH the fun party nightlife activities seem to die out pretty much at the same times as they would here in the US, so maybe just maybe you may have some bars stay open til about 2 or 3 in the morning, but in Thailand, the action seems to be all day and night if you want it, so if you wake up at midnight, you wont need to feel as if, "ah darn, I only have 2 hrs to catch THAT bar open" or only have maybe some convenience store open to go get some food, all of these establishments in Thailand seem to be able to be open at all times throughout a day, that and Pattaya has a huge draw that it happens to be on an enormous beachfront strip; that is certain to be attractive to anyone.

Scam: a dishonest scheme; a fraud:
Sham: a thing that is not what it is purported to be:
It really depends if something is a scam or not. If a man chooses to purchase things for a woman he met and no promises are attached to it, then it would not be a scam. Let me make a scenario. A man purchased a house for himself and his woman in the Philippines. They both plan on living together forever. She knew from the beginning she would kick him out of the house and sell it when the house is in her name. I believe a woman like this is deceptive and a scammer.
If she is an honest and moral person, she would let him keep the house or sell it and give him the money. Not use the laws in your favor to do something wicked like that.

Sir you have been defrauded, Because you are a US veteran and I am guesing that you have a DD-214 there is no $20,000.00 requirement it is supposed to be only $1,500.00 that is fifteen HUNDRED not thousands this is only for veterans, if you paid $20,000.00 you got screwed big time or you processed the visa yourself and screwed up, I had gone to a reputable agency they would have given you the proper info and done a proper presentation of the docs, I think you have some real problems with this situation. Normally it does take 90 days or less to get your deposit money back. Additionally if you did $20,000.00 that is not a fee it is only a deposit to a local bank it is an account in your Name as well as the PRA it is an interest bearing time deposit and you do get the interest, if you cancel and you can at any time it does take some time to get your money back. I am a PRA registered agent .

Thailand and Philippines is always a neck and neck battle. It really depends on what you value the most. For infrastructure (roads, internet, quality of accommodation, public transportation, food)....Thailand is objectively a much better option. For language, ease of visa, wife material....Philippines is objectively better. Really can't go wrong. One thing I will say for the Men of Culture reading this, Thai women are objectively more programmatic when it comes to dating. For example, Thai women accept Gik/Mia Noi (side piece relationships) as long as the man is respectful and allows them to save face.

This guy is the wrong type of person to interview, he was a bonafied Thailand fanatic, I could tell by how he talked, the moment he tried to downplay the Filipino english advantage, that let me know this guy is a Thailand fanatic diehard fanboy. He sounds like every Thailand fanboy I know, which sounds exactly like every Michael Jordan fanboy I hear when talking about Lebron James, no matter how much Philippines does, and is doing, he has put Thailand on some astronomical mythical unreal fictional level that it isnt actually on, that no matter the gains PH makes, he will make it seem like Thailand is still somehow "ahead" which it isnt, Philippines development is making SE Asia look pretty average right now, and the funny thing is, PH is operating on pretty much a half tank, what happens as more and more Filipinos begin to return to their motherland? There are well over 10 million Filipinos abroad, they have the highest skillsets and knowledge gathered from countries worldwide, I cant imagine what could happen if all of that their money resources, and intelligence they have gathered was brought back and put back into the Philippines' economy, Thailand is doing everything it can to draw tourists in, that includes the low priced housing and accommodation they have there. They have no shame in their red light districts, they clearly invest in them looking at how built up Pattaya is with condos and whatnot, they even legalized weed, Philippines on the other hand isnt so desperate for tourism, they are only recently starting to modernize tourism-targeted infrastructure and development, but will never use sex tourism and other desperate sh1t to get tourists to come there.
On the subject of people not staying in PH long but Thailand they do, I think that may have to do with a host of reasons, none of which have to do with Thailand being "better" but then again, the travel bible has been written in stone, and guys that talk exactly like Thailand fanboys like the guy you interviewed wrote the travel bible, those words echo with weak-minded people so eventually some people probably do end up leaving PH, thinking just like this guy does. I think there are factors that drive people away from PH like the fact there is a much longer rain season and even a typhoon season that Thailand doesnt have, and natural disasters drive people away from PH, also, the country may way on people because the tourists that come there are so spread out, it makes alot of tourists feel too alone in PH, I wish I was in this live stream interview, these Thailand fans get to talk too much, and no one really challenges the generic pipe bomb nonsensical super opinionated fanboy emotional talks they spout, its the same garbage I have been hearing from them since my ships went to PH the first time, and their words have really driven the narrative that honestly makes people skip PH and go to Thailand, pure overhype and overrated Thailand. I personally would never take a Filipina to Thailand of all places on the globe, the fanboys there are far too toxic for me, and as a woman, I would be suspicious why Thailand? I dont care what any fanboy says, if Thailand is "more developed" than Philippines right now, which I dont think it is I think Thailand being on one conjoined hunk of land, not an archipelago like PH, which touches no other countries, all of Thailand's major cities are in a line, and if you know anything of how cities are built and infrastructure that follows, if 2 cities are in a line, everything in between will be to some extent developed, I just mapped out the most developed cities in Thailand, they are all on one route pretty much, and the 2 majorly developed cities in Thailand which are Bangkok and Pattaya are 1 hr and 48 minutes from each other, while the 2 most developed cities in Philippines are not only 22hrs and 37minutes away from each other, but on completely different islands, you actually have to jump across several different islands to get from Luzon to the specific part of Visayas to get to Cebu, this is A number 1 what makes Thailand seem way more "developed" over PH, the biggest cities in Thailand are all very close to each other, so the interior areas between those bigger more developed cities naturally through progression were developed, whereas in a place like PH, where the cities are much more broken up.
I did something no fanboy of Thailand has ever done, I took the 4 most developed cities of these 2 countries, and mapped them out at the amount of time it would take to get from point a to point b starting from the city the furthest north, going to the furthest south so going from in Thailand I went Chiang Mai - Bangkok - Pattaya - Hua Hin, the time it would take you to get from Chiang Mai to Hua Hin is 15 hrs and 2 minutes, the time it would take you getting from Philippines most developed cities Now if I leave off Baguio, then we have Angeles - Manila - Cebu - Davao City which would take 39 hrs going from Angeles to Davao, with Baguio added that would be 42 hrs, with the natural progression of development, it doesnt take a brain to know in Thailand you are looking at a much smaller scope of a place that you are thinking is developed compared to Philippines which the most developed cities are spaced out in total 24 hrs worth of distance longer than Thailand's, so what you are seeing is very misleading with these 2 countries.
It would be like if you have the state of Texas for instance, but you think Illinois is more developed than Texas, because maybe you only saw say Texarkana AR, while you saw the fullness of Chicago IL, but in reality you have yet to see all of Texas like Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio, the point is, the average person thinks they have seen all of PH by seeing individual cities on one island, and all surrounding cities are very far away and smaller, it would be different if Manila and Cebu were on the same island, everything in between those 2 cities would be crazy developed, possibly even already having a metro connecting between them. On the subject of the condos in Thailand being built out of concrete, it isnt so simple just to plop some materials down in PH, the country has to think about natural disasters, Thailand doesnt, so buying a bunch of concrete is great, but what a waste it would be for a strong quake to come through and destroy your pretty concrete frame, Philippines doesnt have the luxury to just build so uninterrupted like Thailand, and all the extra hands Thailand has helping with their sh1t, their development has to be done in a hurry since alot of their year is obstructed with weather interruptions and natural disasters that are guaranteed.
