HAWK 250 REPLACE SPROCKET DAMPENING BUSHINGS

- 2019 hawk 250, had it for just about 11 months at this point. Sprocket dampening bushing were replaced for the first time at 2100 miles, although like I said they really needed replaced around the 1000 mile mark. The sad thing about these darn bushing is that they need repcaced more often than your oil 😂 wanted to add in here as well that I’m sure you can find these bushings from other sources in America. Everet Powersports was the one place that I could find the bushing easily. They were fairly reasonable on price, and the main thing which is they ship in a few days.

Yes luckily there are several ways you can remove these bushings. Probably one of the next best ways, is to chisel the outer casing of the bushing. This technique works great for bushings that are stuck really tight and requires no special tools. I use this technique in the swing arm bushing replacement video. I go into great detail and show you how to do it in that video and what kind of chisel or screwdriver to use. Here is a link to that video: th-cam.com/video/VUnm81Dl1Oc/w-d-xo.html if you use this method to remove your bushings, there’s a couple things to take in consideration. So number one obviously the swing arm on the bike is made out of steel, the hub on your rear wheel is made out of aluminum, so you have to be extremely careful when you’re chiseling the bushing in the rear hub of the bike. What happens is you can cause a bur in the aluminum, and many other issues. The main thing is if you cause a bur, you need to sand it down with some emery cloth, or your bushing will be difficult or impossible to press in. Been wondering how this. Looking around at these since mine sucked. Put in the new bushes and it was about three days until the circlip slipped off, sporcket came off and all four bushes fell out.
That’s a real bummer! Those snap rings can be picky, unfortunately you really have to make sure they are seated well otherwise they will fall right off! Hopefully you got your bike straightened out! Thanks for watching!
Are the ones from walmart any good do they last any
@@JR-gi3cd just by objectively looking at them, they look like the same cheap garbage that came on the hawk, my guess is that they are not worth buying. Since I have put the Japanese sprocket dampening bushing in my hawk I have yet to change them again, so I have not had a chance to test the Walmart bushings at all. IMO, go with the Japanese bushings the are worth every penny and will outlast the bike from what I can see! I have 5,000 miles on them and there’s no sign of wear so far! Thanks for watching!
How are those Japanese dampening bushings last?
They are actually holding up very well, I was skeptical that any rubber bushing would stand up to the abuse that the hawk takes, however the Japanese bushings have lasted for thousands and thousands of miles now, whereas the original bushings were pretty much shot at 500 miles, I had to modify them so they would make it to 1000 miles LOL.

I have definitely thought about doing that before, however there’s really no need to. Very rarely do I ever use special tools, sometimes you guys will see me using the bearing puller set, or snap ring pliers, but these tools are very universal, you can buy them anywhere. For the most part I’m using my three dollar tool kit that I bought at a flea market years ago, a craftsman tool kit that I got for Christmas many years ago. I use some picks that came from harbor freight from time to time, And I use some generic tools like a hammer screwdrivers and things like that. So again there really aren’t any special tools that you need to work on this bike, and that’s the beauty of this bike. You could hypothetically go to harbor freight and spend not even a couple hundred dollars and be ready for almost any job. Hopefully this helps! Thanks for watching!
