Disney failing to predict Elsa’s popularity is so funny. Like you made one character with ice superpowers and a sparkly snow dress who built her own ice palace and thought kids were going to gravitate to her non superpowered sister
I think they made a similar mistake when Encanto came out. They expected girls to like Isabella, but Luisa and her song was more loved by the audience.
You should know that they originally planned to make the traidional fairy tale movie with Elsa as the Villain. Bue because Let it Go was so good they decided to change the whole story to accomodate her. That´s the reasoning behind the plot holes that many people didn´t care to see.
Your opinion on the movie is so refreshing! While of course Elsa’s deep rooted fears stem from the mistakes of her parents, whose own fears hindered her chance to properly grow up to accept herself, the only real active role she plays in her story is running away from her problems. You’re definitely right that she plays a more passive role all throughout the first movie, so it’s weird that she was heralded back then as some feminist icon. She may have had literal powers but even she was at the whim of her own abilities
Yeah people celebrated her because she didn’t have a love interest but the film still had a lot of romantic scenes. Also we don’t know for certain that any of the Disney princess married someone they just met.. it’s never made clear when they got married. 😫 it just frustrates me how needlessly critical people are of the Disney princesses. It actually seems very anti feminist
Ariel saves Eric from drowning. He tries to save her later on by launching a harpoon at Ursula and then Ariel makes Ursula misfire the trident saving Eric again and he returns the favour by taking the helm of a ship and ramming the bow sprint into Ursula. Elsa pails in comparison to other Disney girls. Jane Porter went from a London girl to jungle girl. What about Kida saving an entire civilisation and city.
Disney did originally intend to make Elsa a villain but when they heard Let it Go they scrapped it because it didn’t make sense to the story anymore. Basically Let it Go shifted the story in a different direction
Thank you so much for addressing the “Elsa villain” thing!!! Elsa sent an abominable snowman to out her sister- I’ve always thought of her as a villain ❤
Yep, she was supposed to be the villain. They changed their minds part way through production and that's why there are no subtle hints to the audience that Hans is the villain; they dumped it on him last minute.
Yeah she behaves like a villain but it’s always sort of an accident… which is what I mean about her being passive. I want her to do things more deliberately
I was a little girl when Frozen came out and from memory I remember that EVERYONE looked for the Elsa doll with the green flower dress from the short film "Frozen Fever" on the shelves there were only Anna that no one wanted 😅
I was OBSESSED with Frozen when it came out. I spent middle school worshipping Elsa. I grew out of that phase eventually and I don’t enjoy Frozen much at all anymore, but Elsa is still a comfort character.
i'm not a big frozen fan either but back in the late summer of 2013 when the frozen merch started going out into the disney store, i bought the singing elsa doll as a christmas present for my sister, who is a massive idina menzel fan. and omg trying to keep that doll a secret for all those months was so difficult. it's motion sensor activated and she would just go off randomly even though she was kept in a dark cupboard. you would just sometimes faintly hear let it go when you walked around our house. i do not know how my sister didn't hear it at all and we managed to keep it secret. so funny looking back now
Belle also selflessly risked her life to save her Father, remember she took his place as Prisoner:) Anyways, agreed when I finally got around to seeing Frozen, I didn't get the hype. Some of the Dolls are stunning though. Also tbf every Disney sequel is a Mess;p hehe xo
Ok so I'm gonna defend Elsa acting like she was drunk in Frozen Fever. Remember Anna got a "cold remedy" from Oaken for Elsa? She only started acting drunk after that lol
frozen actually was the first with the sister bond stitch is an alien lilo is a human they cant understand the each others language like anna and elsa can
Bad news! Disney planned to do a Frozen 3 and 4. Except bringing Hans back, what could happen? Anna is queen, Elsa is happy in the forest, Arendelle has no enemies. If Anna suddenly could use magic, that won't make sense! It will also make her less special. She was unique because the girl can handle differents situations WITHOUT magic. I really hope this character won't have powers in the next movie 😟
If there were any good writers left I would wish for a redemption arc for hans and Elsa and Anna finding out that the Trolls f*cked with his mind because his role doesn't makes sense at all.
i was 14 when frozen came out and was just as obsessed with it and elsa as the actual children were, lol. i still love her to this day and it’s one of my favorite films despite its flaws. i do wish they had gotten to play with elsa being in a more villainous role and some of her early designs are stunning, but i love her as she is too- i honestly think her being so imperfect is what makes her interesting. however i also agree that all the stuff about frozen being the first feminist disney whatever is ridiculous. the princesses have always been varied and interesting characters, and trying to force them to fit into a role model box only makes them seem more flat and uniform. i kind of feel the way you do about frozen with encanto though. i just did not get the hype when that one came out and luisa’s song is my least favorite in all of disney’s history… but i guess everyone else loves it? i feel like there’s always at least one big disney movie that you just don’t vibe with haha
3:38 Even the fact Cinderella stood up against her stepfamily when they were mocking her when she wants to go to the ball, Rapunzel risking her life to heal Flynn before he cuts her hair, Ariel fought against Ursula when she tried to destroy Eric and her father as well. I mean at least Elsa is so much better Disney Princess than Anna, but still. Also the fact that during that time, lot of people hadn't realized that you can be independent feminist, AND also find your true love at the same time.
I absolutely became thrilled when this video popped up on my phone! Even though you're not a big Frozen fan I still love the channel, but I'm a massive Frozen fan!!! I even have (almost) all of the Mattel dolls and even the Hasbro ones.
I was working at Walt Disney World during that time and it was insane because all the stores like the Emporium only had Elsa and Kristoff left leading up to the official release. I had to buy Anna at a Disney Store. It was like nobody cared about Elsa until after the movie came out lol.
that story of the haunted doll is hilarious. so the doll has an Elsa voice box in it, it just randomly also switches to the spanish voice. I assume both voice boxes got inserted, and it’s getting shifted around which causes the voices to switch? if it’s fake, seems like a pretty elaborate story just to strap it to a car at the end lmao.
I predict in 2033 (20 years after Frozen) there will be a resurgence in popularity and demand for new dolls since kids in 2013 will be adults and be nostalgia buying !! ❄️ I mean it happened to all the 90s and 00s Disney films ! ✨️
As someone with a 5-year-old niece, I can confirm kids still froth at the mouth for Frozen. They really nailed it with that movie (at least for young children) and haven't reached that level of hype since. Encanto got close but I think it was the teen-adult market that enjoyed it.
I think the reason why the fame of Frozen is starting to fade is because kids who loved Frozen are all teenagers or young adults now and moved on from Disney and most kids nowadays does not know Frozen. I'm turning 18 this year and I used to really love Frozen and I became Elsa on my 8th Birthday. It was so memorable to me and I remember back then, I would always sing "Let It Go". I can't believe now that Frozen is celebrating 10th year anniversary like where did the time go? Time flew by so quickly
The very first Frozen dolls from the Disney Store were some of the best. The attention to detail was great. I remember the gloves on the Anna doll would stain her hands. I also vividly remember the Frozen doll shortage 10 years ago. Disney Store would restock and they'd be sold out again instantly. Oh, and Joey's grand entrance dressed as Elsa. SLAY!!!
There are those LE dolls designed by Brittney Lee which have a more cartoonish faces that are still available in Disney Store. They're really cute and curious, but somehow, being so different doesn't seem to succeed. I really love Frozen Hasbro dolls when they used the smaller headmold, specially Anna's. They're really really cute
Finally! One of the few people in the world that gets that FROZEN wasn´t it! Of all the plot holes and issues with the movie the MAIN one is that the "sisterhood" ISN´T THERE. They were apart FOR YEARS! That´s what truly bothers me about it...well, that and Hans "as a villain". The movie is fun. I won´t deny it. But one thing is that and another to overlook everything else.
Me too. But as far as I heard in videos about the movie Wish is that the writer just can't write villians at all. Rapunzels step mum is a villian and had a happy song. They easily could have done that with Elsa, too.
@@BlackCroft666 Well, the thing with FROZEN was that they changed all their plans for the Elsa as the villain just cause Let it Go was so good. ...and yes, all those surpise villains are AWFUL: Wreck it Ralph (in this case worked), Frozen, Big Hero 6...and the worst of them all from Zootopia.
I love Frozen! I love both movies and the shorts. I went to see the live-action Cinderella movie only because it had the Frozen Fever short in front of it. I didn't think I'd love the movie but I did love it and still do.
12:26 I used to have the Frozen fever Elsa doll when I was young but now it's gone, But I remember the fabric are very nice on the doll, I think Mattel did well with the doll ❤
Omg! I am so glad I am not the only one who has never been a fan of frozen.. I mean, it's not that I didn't like it, it was just "just okay" for me and I could never understand the huge hype and still I am unable to :') BUT! I also have to add that Joey in Elsa dress and showing it of for us is such a slay, I live for 💅💙
Personally I feel like Elsa is the first introvert character. I love it. Finally someone to relate to. Also as a scandinavian I'm really happy that our culture is being represented.
I remember when my parents and I went to see Coco back in January 2018, we were already aware of the 'Olaf's Frozen Adventure' controversy by that time, but we weren't sure if the cinema was going to have the short intact. Unfortunately, it was, and I say unfortunately, because a fair chunk of the audience complained thinking the wrong movie was playing. It didn't help that the trailers that played before the main movie were constantly buffering like they were on bad Wi-Fi, so needless to say, we were a little irritated by the constant disruptions. At least, when we finally got to the movie we paid for, it was smooth sailing from there, and me and my mum were still crying from that beautiful ending as we got back to the car.
The fact I have the same haunted doll💀 that was when I was smaller tho Right when he started talking about Mattel an add piped up about Barbie dolls Sponsored by Mattel😭
I loveeeee the first frozen dolls by Mattel. Firstly they are very nastolgic to me but they actually look like the characters and what I also really like is that Elsa looked sweet and not that evil sassy look she had at hasbros Edit: and not to mention the first DISNEY DOLLS like I only like the first frozen dolls in general 😭💗💗
Mattel lost the rights to make Disney dolls because of Ever After High! Disney thought it was too close to their own fairy tale properties and yanked away the rights.
Personally while I don't hate Elsa as much as some seem to do and I do get what the writers were trying to do with her character, I was always confused when people called her a feminist icon when characters such as Belle, Mulan and even Merida had much larger roles compared to her. My best guess was it was the symptom of when the Disney princess were facing a lot of criticism thanks to Buzzfeed's articles on them (good riddance) but I think it's really weird that Elsa was seen as a feminist icon conpare to the others (including Anna)
As an used to be frozen obsessed kid I used to have the singing Elsa doll. I pressed the button so many times it went from singing let it go to only saying “le”
Your opinions of Frozen are pretty valid. I’d argue and say that Belle sacrificed for her father more than Adam, aka the beast, but for the most part, you’re right about Elsa not exactly being the first feminist.
The first Anna and Elsa dolls released by Disney Store were the best looking in my opinion. The Hasbro play line ones are awful : Elsa’s mouth looks like the Joker’s and her dress looks really bad, with no glitter and all details printed on the fabric. The newer Mattel version at least doesn’t have the creepy Joker smile but while Anna’s outfit is nice, Elsa’s doesn’t look very pretty without glitter and details.
Loved the intro lol😂❤ As a huge Frozen fan I was always a bit upset that they got separated from the regular princess line because of how popular they were on their own 😔 Specially since Anna became my first favorite princess. Before that while I always loved Disney, I never had favorite one.. I wish I can one day afford one of the 1st Disney limited edition Anna doll. I currently have only the Anna version from the end of the 1st movie. I got it for myself as a birthday gift, I was able to find it at $250. Not too bad…
i have no opinion on the movies, but DEAR LORD how horrendous those first mattel dolls were!!!😱 as a doll customizer i even tried to make something of an Anna doll but it's a lost cause. i tried with a Hasbro Elsa and managed to make a nice figurine out of her, chopping and repositioning her limbs. i also bought a second hand Disney Kristoff doll and put his head on an MTM Ken because the original body was tragic.
I love your videos! Growing up, I was never interested in dolls and didn't play with them, but your videos along with the doll fix-ups have gotten me very into them.
i have the elsa at 5:45, the anna on the left at 6:13 (she was 2nd hand a few yrs back), and the elsa at 6:51. the fact that this movie and these characters have been around for around 10 years is kind of amazing to be honest, though i know that a good few of the disney princesses themselves have been around for waaaaay, waaaaaay longer.
I agree with 100% of the things you said about Frozen!! I even watched the play and they improved Anna and Elsa’s relationship I must say, but they had to put Kristoff aside 😂
The popularity of Let It Go and Elsa soared in the sky. 😊 I also remember that time vividly ^^ Since then, the side effects of exclusive contracts have been felt sorry for. I can't believe there was such a fact. That's amazing.
Right before the first Frozen movie was released in theaters, I bought the original cheap Mattel versions of the dolls (they were literally the last pair of dolls left on the shelf) because my daughter was only a baby at the time, so the painted on clothes were actually perfect (she later just said they were in their swimsuits). I waited until she was older to invest in the Disney Store versions, but I remember my nieces had to wait a year in order to get any Frozen dolls due to the shortage. Even now, I usually buy any of the Disney plush (usually the sidekicks) available in stores before a movie is released and wait to get the Disney store dolls. I had a hard time finding the Barley plush from “Onward” even before the movie came out, but was finally able to get him eventually and I still can’t get Wade and Ember plush dolls to this day (they didn’t release any non-Disney Store versions for regular stores and my Disney Store order of them was canceled due to no more available stock). They still have not made them available.
6:05 My beef with the ice-skating Anna doll when it came out. was that she had pink ice skates, when in the scene when Elsa transforms her winter boots into ice skates, they were clearly white with a gold filigree design.
I am SO GLAD you said you didnt like the movie. I am the same way...just didnt enjoy it. So much of it felt clunky to me. I tried to rewatch it and just...couldn't finish it. I know it's very beloved and that's awesome but it's absolutely not even close to my favorite animated movies.
I agree so much with your impression of the Frozen movie. I saw it about a year after release and I’ve never understood why people like it so much. She gives the entire Let it Go speech, and I was ready for the movie to say “then, 20 years later, people still whispered about the ice witch…” but she literally only chilled in her ice castle for like a day haha. I think if I had seen it as a kid rather than an adult, I would have liked how the princesses change their outfits so many times, though! Never too many pretty dresses!
Did that one family try burning the haunted Elsa doll or chopping it with a chainsaw? Sure, it might not have worked, but would've made a really cool video.
Olaf’s frozen adventure was originally only supposed to be aired on abc family but they were worried that Coco wouldn’t be as successful as it was, so decided to put the short before it to try and ride off the frozen frenzy to get some money back. Seems like Disney has a habit of betting on the wrong princess. Remember when they tried to market Isabela more with Mirabel, but Louisa ended up becoming more popular? I remember no one touching the Isabela merch but begging for a Louisa doll or costume. Considering how hard the animators fought for Louisa to be as muscular as she it while still not being a typical Disney tomboy, she deserved it. Also can I say how FAB you look in that dress!
hilarious as always (love the outfit, esp the crown!!!! Thanks for another entertaining video. I always smile when a notification pops up for another of your videos.
The walk into frame in the Elsa dress was iconic
The deadpan expression killed me 😭
I agree , he looks fabulous!

Disney failing to predict Elsa’s popularity is so funny. Like you made one character with ice superpowers and a sparkly snow dress who built her own ice palace and thought kids were going to gravitate to her non superpowered sister
Besides, everything you mention is done while she sings the most viral and successful song in the movie.
I think they made a similar mistake when Encanto came out. They expected girls to like Isabella, but Luisa and her song was more loved by the audience.
Yeah Elsa is soooo much more exciting than Ana
You should know that they originally planned to make the traidional fairy tale movie with Elsa as the Villain. Bue because Let it Go was so good they decided to change the whole story to accomodate her. That´s the reasoning behind the plot holes that many people didn´t care to see.
Oh man my dad got my daughter a fake Elsa. Her legs were as skinny as toothpicks and hidden under her dress
Your opinion on the movie is so refreshing! While of course Elsa’s deep rooted fears stem from the mistakes of her parents, whose own fears hindered her chance to properly grow up to accept herself, the only real active role she plays in her story is running away from her problems. You’re definitely right that she plays a more passive role all throughout the first movie, so it’s weird that she was heralded back then as some feminist icon. it’s all because she didn’t have a love interest and said that line about not marrying someone you just met 😒
To be fair the problems of her character seem to get addressed in the sequel
Based on what I remember in the movie at least

I agree, people drag princesses like snow white all the way to Ariel when they quite honestly have as much if not more agency than Elsa
@aruvius omg the SNL skit" Anna? Olaf? Kristof? I'm gay" lmfao
Strong woman disney princess line-"i am not a prize to be won"- Jasmine.

Yass! Jasmine is my favorite!

frozen actually was the first with the sister bond stitch is an alien lilo is a human they cant understand the each others language like anna and elsa can

I’m quite a big Frozen doll collector, so I’m so surprised that you made this video!
16:07 lol reason why their screening is like that is because they based it on the disney sketch of anna and Elsa before it was fully animated
I didn’t know it was haunted until now
Instant like for the outfit💅
Those Elsa dolls are all I find in the toy section in my local thrift store 😭 while people find Bratz, Barbie, MH, AG, I find naked Elsas
0:02 the simple walk in with the dress on lol so iconic 😂😂😂
Your opinions of Frozen are pretty valid.
I’d argue and say that Belle sacrificed for her father more than Adam, aka the beast, but for the most part, you’re right about Elsa not exactly being the first feminist.
Joey is the best Elsa
The films were amazing. Amazed that you didn't care for them. But each to their own.
The frozen dolls dominated the toy Disney section in some stores. I got tired of Frozen because it was everywhere.
A couple of years ago I found the best/worst fake doll in the world: a mermaid Elsa. BTW, I'm from Argentina and the doll was of course made in China.
Loved the intro lol😂❤
As a huge Frozen fan I was always a bit upset that they got separated from the regular princess line because of how popular they were on their own 😔 Specially since Anna became my first favorite princess. Before that while I always loved Disney, I never had favorite one..
I wish I can one day afford one of the 1st Disney limited edition Anna doll. I currently have only the Anna version from the end of the 1st movie. I got it for myself as a birthday gift, I was able to find it at $250. Not too bad…
i have no opinion on the movies, but DEAR LORD how horrendous those first mattel dolls were!!!😱
as a doll customizer i even tried to make something of an Anna doll but it's a lost cause. i tried with a Hasbro Elsa and managed to make a nice figurine out of her, chopping and repositioning her limbs. i also bought a second hand Disney Kristoff doll and put his head on an MTM Ken because the original body was tragic.
Standing on furniture and crouching “I feel so elegant” 😂❤
Elsa is my favorite of Disney girls ❄. She easily overthrew Ariel from the first and only place of the best Disney princess, where she was for years.
I love your videos! Growing up, I was never interested in dolls and didn't play with them, but your videos along with the doll fix-ups have gotten me very into them.
You look amazing in the iconic Elsa dress!
Finally early on ur video and omg u ate in that Elsa outfit up 👀
i have the elsa at 5:45, the anna on the left at 6:13 (she was 2nd hand a few yrs back), and the elsa at 6:51. the fact that this movie and these characters have been around for around 10 years is kind of amazing to be honest, though i know that a good few of the disney princesses themselves have been around for waaaaay, waaaaaay longer.
I agree with 100% of the things you said about Frozen!! I even watched the play and they improved Anna and Elsa’s relationship I must say, but they had to put Kristoff aside 😂
The popularity of Let It Go and Elsa soared in the sky. 😊
I also remember that time vividly ^^
Since then, the side effects of exclusive contracts have been felt sorry for.
I was PRIME Frozen age when the movie came out. This video brought back many memories of playing with these dolls!
I'm watching this with my elsa doll in my hand haha❤❤❤❤
disney store beats mattel every time
No mention of Frozen 3? Well I'm excited for it lol. Love your dress! 🤩
When I tell you I screamed icon when he walked out in the Elsa dress 💅💅✨❄️❄️❄️
I am SO GLAD you said you didnt like the movie. I am the same way...just didnt enjoy it. So much of it felt clunky to me. I tried to rewatch it and just...couldn't finish it. I know it's very beloved and that's awesome but it's absolutely not even close to my favorite animated movies.
I really like how he just walking into the video in an elsa dress looked at the camera like nothing is going on and just said "ok" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The miniature of the video is hilarious, your entrance was iconic. 😂 💅
Froze Fever Dresses are beautiful
I Saw that mattle frozen set when I went to the store
I really miss the OG Disney store dolls from 2013 and also how Mattel used to make Disney dolls before.
That short reminds me of stack frost, jack frost
I was not ready for that entrance but I’m here for it. Eat your heart out, Elsa. 🩵
hilarious as always (love the outfit, esp the crown!!!! Thanks for another entertaining video. I always smile when a notification pops up for another of your videos.
cant believe he found an Elsa costume that fits perfectly.. cant help but think he had it custom made
Wonder if they’re gonna make dolls of that all of adventures
Its giving nistaliga i am gonna cry😢😢😊😅😂
Mattel last year new dolls were came out fans reaction was "meh" that was so funny 🤣🤣🤣
Have Frozen dolls have ever been off the shelves? I don't ever recall a time where that happened.
The first commercial that you showed us looked like a 90s barbie commercial and I loved it❤❤❤❤❤
