    YES OMG Mulan was so so horrible!!! Like the director was like “she’s not a super hero” but then changed her to have magic powers? The whole point of Mulan was that she was the underdog, what made he special wasn’t a power she was born with, it was her ability to persevere, think outside the box, and use her weaknesses as advantages. She turned being a woman into a strength in a situation when being a woman was a weakness. And then they took out the songs?! Like wtf was Disney THINKING

    • @lordferdinand33

      Exactly! The original Mulan felt useless when she was rejected by the matchmaker, she was a "disgrace" to her family, so she decided she could sacrifice herself to save her father. And then she becomes the greatest by discovering strength in the feminine, finding solutions that no man could think about.
      The remake Mulan is pointless, she is already powerful and wants to go to war, she is not sacrificing anything to save her father, she has powers, there is no way she can evolve and persevere.

    The Disney Store live action dolls are a textbook case of uncanny valley. There needs to be some level of stylization at that scale and with those proportions. Like they literally use the same doll bodies as the animated characters which makes the hyper-realistic heads look huge and insanely out of place. It seems the new Halle doll has a better proportioned head so that’s good, but it still seems people are liking the stylized Mattel face more

    The infamous live action Beauty and the Beast Belle doll from Disney Store. Her face is really terrifying and odd looking. She is mostly called as "Justin Bieber". The hair line is so wide, so the forehead too. The head is big, the face is so much realistic looking and she has a classic Disney Princess body. That makes her look weird.
    I think Mattel will release their very own Disney live action Princesses dolls very soon. I am so excited for the Emma Watson as Belle doll. Mattel is really good at capturing and transferring actors and actreses into dolls.

  • @mallen4890

    I like the High School Musical playline dolls that Mattel did. Although they all got new face sculpts based on the actors, there was no attempt to make them too hyper-realistic so they looked great and not uncanny. And their clothes were good quality. Where the Belle doll and other celebrity dolls went wrong was trying to recreate every laugh-line and wrinkle. It just made them look old and tired!

    I love Cinderella’s live action dress, it really has that magical princess look. But I’m not a fan of Belle’s dress, because it doesn’t look like gold in the animated movie. I think they should’ve kept it gold for the live action, that would’ve looked stunning.

    • @crab2195
      @crab2195 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Emma Watson’s refusal to wear a corset also ruined the dress, at least for me. she refused to wear one under the guise of “feminism” which is absolute bs to anyone who knows the history of fashion and women’s garments. women didn’t wear corsets for a smaller waistline… they had to wear them because of the structure of the dresses. sure, they were uncomfortable and restrictive but that wasn’t intentional. they didn’t wear the corsets for “beauty standards” or anything like that, of course it played a role but to write off such an important garment for women at the time feels condescending and… stupid. this may be an unpopular opinion but casting Emma Watson was such a huge mistake. but that’s a common theme i see in a lot of these remakes. they make huge changes to the story and characters all for the sake of “progression” when nothing about the changes are actually progressive. it just proves they don’t even know what they’re talking about.

    • @MinisDunyasi5
      @MinisDunyasi5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@crab2195 I don’t think Emma Watson was a good choice for Belle.
      Belle is feminine, she’s soft spoken, and caring. She walks, dances and reads like she’s in her own world, she’s also very passionate about books.
      While Emma Watson acts masculine most likely because of feminism. Some feminists believe being feminine is weak, which I completely disagree with as a feminine feminist. She walks like she owns the world. She’s also not passionate about books, she barely looks at the book and doesn’t sound like she’s passionate about books.
      She didn’t even help the Beast when he got injured, they also had terrible chemistry.
      Also, she can’t even sing. Broadway actors were side characters and they outshined the heavily autotuned Belle.
      I liked the other outfits in the movie. Such as the Beast’s and Gaston’s outfits, they look good and they’re historically accurate.
      Belle’s ballgown dress didn’t look good and it wasn’t even historically accurate, but if it had that magical gold look like in the animated movie, I wouldn’t have cared about historical accuracy. The dress was very expensive to make as well, but it looks very cheap.

      @@MinisDunyasi5 i completely agree with everything you said!! i couldn’t have said it better. I truly don’t understand their decision to go with Emma Watson… they didn’t need the publicity or name recognition. i also agree that the whole “feminist = masculine” is total bs and another way of taking away women’s individuality. she didn’t capture the essence of Belle whatsoever. and like you said, can’t sing. i don’t think the film needed to be historically accurate but when you go out of your way to pat yourself on the back for doing the “feminist” thing and not wear a corset… you should at least know what you’re talking about. if you don’t know why women wore corsets at the time, you shouldn’t even mention your decision to not wear one. i’d rather pretend this movie never existed😂

    • @MinisDunyasi5
      @MinisDunyasi5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@crab2195 I agree. The animated movie was way better.
      In the live action there was no Belle, there was Emma Watson. They should’ve called it “Emma Watson & the Beast”. That would’ve been more accurate.
      The live action didn’t feel like it had that “Disney Princess Magic” effect either. The dress wasn’t shining or pretty, there was no chemistry between Emma Watson and the Beast, it didn’t even feel like romance. Belle can’t sing, so the songs she was in weren’t good.
      Almost every outfit except Belle’s outfit was historically accurate, Belle’s dress looks so out of place, especially for the time.

      I still keep all my +100 barbies collection since childhood (and other toys). I’m extremely protective over my possessions, my parents know it very well and wouldn’t have dared to do something like that just like I wouldn’t have dared to take something that belong to them and throw to the trash or give it to someone. For example my mother has a jewelry collection she doesn’t use the half of it, now imagine I took the cheapest necklace she had and gave to a friend because she is por and has no jewelry at all and said to my mother “mom you know that necklace that looked the cheapest, well I took it and gave it to someone because they needed it more that’s you do” and now imagine she would have told me “how could you that’s the first thing you father gifted to me!”. I would have felt horrible as a normal human being should but a normal human being wouldn’t have taken someone’s else belongings to give away without permission.
      It’s a mutual respect, that’s how relationships work and kept strong.
      Considering you had those 3 favorite toys not like me who had more than one hundred Barbies as a kid that’s basically “I don’t know my kid, I”m not bothered to understand her or him”. Like who does that? Not everyone will keep their toys like me, most end up giving them away anyway but when they ready to do so.
      This just made me really mad. It’s not even about a toy but the decision to be unnecessary cruel to someone…

      I think the facial proportions were also a bit... smooshed in. Emma Watson's a lovely woman, but trying to accurately put her facial features on a doll just made it look really narrow and just... not very pleasant to look at. I think the Ariel doll got it right in that there's clear resemblance to the actress, but they "cartoonified" the features just enough that it felt properly proportioned. There's probably some psychology factor behind why certain doll face features hit our "how pretty!" or "how cute!" response and others don't.

    You should check out the Phantom of Opera dolls. Ken is dressed as the Phantom and Barbie is dressed as Christine Daae. They are amazing and are a super rare Phantom of the Opera item. My mom got them for me for Christmas last year after I begged and begged nonstop for months and months and I completely LOVE them. They come with doll stands. Ken is in a black suit with a black cape and he comes with things like the white Phantom mask which he’s wearing and the skull staff. Barbie is in the wedding dress from the musical and comes with things like a veil which is on her head. I don’t know if she comes with anything else, though. I’m sorry.

    I would say that Alice in wonderland and through the looking glass, Maleficent and Cinderella don’t really count as remakes. Since they are a continuation of the original, a different point of view or more fleshed out story. You can really say that they are new material in a good way. Giving a different feeling than the original and a good feeling at that

    Before Disney started the limited edition dolls, they had partnered with Tonner Dolls. Tonner was known for their larger vinyl dolls ranging from 16" to 17" (they did make dolls that were smaller and even larger than that). Tonner created most of the Disney Princesses and several other Disney films/series - Mary Poppins, Davy Crocket, 101 Dalmatians, Chronicles of Narnia, Prince of Persia, Princess Diaries, Tron and Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. I think the reason there weren't many smaller dolls for the Alice film was because Tonner had the license for that movie.
