    You forgot to mention the Citizen has scratch protection Duratect coating. This one really outperforms any Seiko for the price!

    Great review. I think the movement on the Citizen is better because it's a 4hz, high-beat movement whereas the 6R35 on the Seiko has slower 3hz beat rate. It's not a huge deal, but the sweep of the second hand on the Citizen will be smoother. Add the sapphire crystal and solid endlinks and you got a much better watch overall.

    It used to be that when I thought of Citizen I only thought Eco Drive. Watches like this are changing that. I'm taking the Citizen all day. Thanks Matt. 🤘

      Me too bro. Eco Drive is excellent tech but I think a lot of people think that is all Citizen does.

    Seiko better duck because the incoming Citizen have smoother high beat movements at lower prices (under $400USD) with sapphire crystals, thinner cases, solid end links and better polishing.

    I want the Citizen - and the price is even better now. But all my bands are 20mm. I know folks squeeze bands by a mm, but can lugs be widened/ground out by a watchmaker?

    Liked the comparison, wished you could have done a few more dress watch comparisons between those two brands but I guess it would have been longer and you forget what your learning about all the watches ie it clutters up the brain. I am definitely leaning towards the citizen brand and am looking to purchase a dress watch and for me I would prefer the sapphire crystal dial as it takes it up a class. I would buy a Seiko but they have to up their game a bit. More content about those two brands though please.

    Hi. I'd go with the Citizen too, before getting to the part where you forgot the lume, I was gonna said that. Imo, both watches are on the sportier side so, I think having lume is important, 38 vs 40 mm, I prefer 38 that way I can wear it up with a suit, a more solid bracelet and sapphire crystal . No brainer!

    I like the dial, hands, and case size of the Seiko better. Other than that, on the technical side, the Citizen wins by a landslide. Which is a shame, really, because between the two combined, I could have a watch that I really like, here it is like pick your poison.

    I own two SZSBs - one gilt/black dial, and one white (or cream) dial. I like them both alot. Honestly, I like the look of the Seikos better - although, I do think the Citizens blue version is much more captivating. Additionally, the overall specs (Bracelet, and saphire, etc) appear to be better too. I wear both my seikos on Leather, and the Bracelet is seldom used. Still, no doubt I would have preferred a better bracelett.
    In any event, I own a Citizen Pro Master and am a fan of the eco drive. I've no experience, however, with a Citizen automatic. For now, I'm quite happy with my SZSBs. But that blue Citizen, I admit, is very tempting. Nice review.

    For a comparison between 2 automatic watches, I thought the actual accuracy over a day/week is a must-have, perhaps it is just me ..... for the 2 watches, I have no idea how good the accuracy of the Citizen since they are famous for eco drive more than automatic, but for Seiko, 4 series movement isn't particularly renowned for its accuracy, Seiko do have some decent movement in Presage line, and fine movements in their Grand Seiko series, but as far as entry level (4R35) goes, I don't have much faith in it, some fine tuned units may perform better than others, but the overall performance across different units is a hit and miss.

  • @RampartPh
    @RampartPh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    citizen's very successful eco-drive line has relegated the impeccable automatic series of theirs unfairly in the background. in short, the mechanical watches of citizen are victims of their company's own success.

    To me, the Citizen easily wins this comparison. I had hoped the SZSB line might be a revival of the SARB line that was so good, but nope. The Citizen 9000 is probably closer to the old 6R15 in the SARB033/35, the SARB had sapphire like the Citizen, and while not perfect (bracelet), it was closer to the Citizen overall. This is only closer to the Citizen in list price. The lack of lume is something I am glad you called out, because I think that's a miss as well. Coming on bracelet, this reads as more dressy sport watch and I think should have at least some lume. The hollow end links is just weird, like you said. Why skimp out in there? In the Seiko's defense, I have seen not uncommon sales of the SZSB down to $275, which makes the specs a little more reasonable (still not great). It does LOOK great though, and on a nice strap would look more expensive. If I didn't already have a blue SPB089 Alpinist (on a Strapcode bracelet), I might be tempted to get the Citizen to fill that blue sports watch hole in my collection.

    I just bought the black dial version of the seiko on a flash sale from Amazon for 90 USD. The seiko also frequently goes on sale on Amazon for anywhere from 150-300. Just depends on timing and luck. I can’t speak for the citizen.

      Depends on the color of dial. The szsb price continues to go up especially the blue dial. I'm guessing cuz of sarb and grand seiko looks of the szsb.

    Все эти мелкие преимущества citizen связаны с тем, что часы предназначены для внутреннего рынка, а как известно, японцы для себя всегда делают лучше, чем для других на экспорт!
