How to Fix an Electric Window - Freelander1 & Other Cars

- Electric window stopped working? Most cars are like this Landrover Freelander1 (front window) in having a cable operated mechanism and electric motor. When they get over 10 or 15 years old they can get a bit stiff and suffer a few problems. This one would go down but not up.
This video starts with everything dismantled. I’ts easier to dismantle than put back together, right?! I detail cleaning up and fixing the dismantled electric motor and gears, then reassembling everything back into the door, including the tricky cable setup. For guidance on dismantling look at the video showing assembly then do that in reverse for dismantling.
So, what tools do you need? A pozidrive screwdriver, small flat bladed screwdriver, a 10mm spanner and some Torx head screwdriver bits with handle.

Just fitted a brand new unit today. It stopped working two weeks ago. I knew the mechanism had corroded as it still worked a little but you could hear crunching sounds. So I just fitted a new unit took 5 mins as I had the door card off already to fix/replace the locking mechanism as well.

for everyone's benefit from the video i started at the with the switch and lucky for me it was the fault and only cost me a tenner to fix. it was the fault so glad i didn't have to go deeper into the problem as very well explained on this video.

Thanks for you kind comments. On sunroofs - check that the drain holes are clear of debris. Push a wire down the drain holes all the way down to clear anything out. That’s all I’ve got on sunroofs at the moment.

Hi my freelander 1 rear window is jammed too high outside it's rim leaving a gap Do you have any idea how I can get it to move down and maybe up again please I've looked through a couple of your vids but not this problem I'm terrified of going over a bump and it shattering not to mention when it rains cheers christine
Will the door open? Does the window switch attempt to move it down when pressed? Does the act of trying to open the door by pressing the door handle attempt to move the window down? You may have to use a small bit of force to open the door by having someone on the inside push on the door. There is the risk of the glass breaking but there are not too many choices.
I've just installed new cables.
It makes a cracking sound when using the motor to lift the window up up.
Left rail cable is stiff. Right cable is lose.
What could be the cause ?

Replacement cable kit is new and not original. Old cables got broken.
I suspect the new ones are a lil bit longer, don't keep the tension and gets tangled in the new guiding wheel wich already got damaged in its grooves (the cracking sound). Or the entire window rail system got worn out in time.
For now i got the new kit to keep the window in place.
And gonna buy new replacement one in the near future.

I can't do this hahahah my driver door window just stopped working lol I can do a service and other parts but this looks too much headache!
The biggest hurdle is deciding that you will have a go, once past that you will probably surprise yourself it what you can do!
