The tip about strapping the older manual triggers just popped my head. It is perfect to set static lights on backgrounds while the TTL changes on moving subjects. LOVE IT!

This was very helpful! I just got off the phone with Canon Support and they recommended that I do not mix any 3rd party products with my Canon Rebel. They discouraged me from trying a Yongnuo transmitter/receiver on my canon with the Yongnuo flash. I get it..they want loyal customers, but I had already bought a Yongnuo flash and I don't have the budget for an expensive flash. I'll go ahead and purchase this and try it out! Thanks again Phil and happy new year.

Yea, they just didnt want you to buy outside of the Canon brand. I have a Canon and Ive been using yongnuo flash for 6 years and I have not had one problem yet.

I have both systems which I use with my 6D. I like to control my lights from the camera menus and find that the 622 C II was simply a blessing. I love them. I find the Phottix to be very complicated at times; as a matter of fact it now sits in my bag as a backup set of triggers.

Great review Phil. I have a couple of these triggers and absolutely love them. They are so cheap, yet reliable and they focus assist means it stays on my camera even when i am not using a flash. I also used the pass through hot shoe for RF602 trigger using a studio strobe and flashgun in a shoot to get the effect i wanted - easy and effective.

This is the best video I have seen explaining the Yongnuo YN-622C.
    Just one question.
With having the YN-622C physically on the Canon, Do you have to have anything attached to the base of a EX568 ii? Or will the flashes themselves pick up the signal and flash when you take a shot?
I have a Canon 7D and have been looking at the EX568 ii with great interest.
Thanks again for a great video.

There are lots of doubtful reviews of photo equipment on You-tube and other sites. This tutorial/review is a remarkable exception. It's well researched, totally unbiased (as far as I can tell anyway), clearly delivered and thankfully free of all the "ummms and errrrs" that characterise so much of Phil's competition. Very, very useful and thanks.

10th December 2014: Use a Yongnuo YN622C-TX on your Canon camera. It has the same function as the Phottix Odin: Screen to remotely adjust all your flashes.
    On camera: Yongnuo YN622C-TX
    Under your flashes: Yongnuo YN622C
I have tried it with Canon EOS 70D camera and Canon 600EX-RT, Phottix Mitos and Yongnuo YN560 III flashes at the same time. Worked very smooth.

Thank you for providing this review.
    One note, though:
"Even if not using a flash you could put the YN622C on your camera and use that as a focus assist beam to help you lock focus when you shooting in high-ISO, low light conditions. Why not?".
Because the camera will revert to "flash on camera / ON" operation mode and Canon's metering logic in this condition is different from the one without a mounted flash or with a mounted one that is turned off.

I agree flash systems are ridiculous in prices .. I have the Yongnuo 560tx controller and 560IV flashes .. works great up to 8 flashes .. down side with my old canon t6i I can’t use the flash in live view .. but I hear if u have a 7D or anything newer u change the setting in live view and it works ..

i sold my odins and got this ones instead, the only thing the odins have better is to be able to change the power from the camera.
I did too thought that i had a dead one when i first put the batteries in it, one would not turn on, giggle the batteries a little and boom on.
    great review.

Yongnuo finally includes a 622 receiver in the 685 speedlite, so no need for the cumbersome receivers.
Agree locking ring is a PITA. I use ANSMANN NiMH batteries with no problem.

I think you may have answered my question, and a great review. I have a T2i, my rf-602 set will not trigger in live view b/c of rear curtain being used from what I read. So if I take a self portrait and use EOS Utility on laptop to view the LCD, I can see what I shoot, but flashes won't flash. I'm hoping the YN-622C will fix this issue for me, as the T3i has a built in silent mode disable for this issue and the T2i doesn't. Good review, I may try out a pair and piggyback like you did

  • @LeonelCortes

Hope U do a review on the yn622c tx and yn560tx. I'm guessing that the LCD will fix the majority of your issues with the trigger.

A very helpful review, thank you. I have recently purchased a 568ex ii (with the intent of purchasing others) and need a trigger system for it. I also have a few 560ex iii's and I thought I would need to purchase a number of 622's for these also, but your idea of piggy backing the manual (602/603) trigger on top of the 622 is an excellent way to get around the issue of those manual flashes (560ex iii's). Keep up the good work.

  • @MacGeek35

thanks so much Phil. they look more ideal than the 603's as will work with manual and TTL flashes - am I right? .. Will this work with the Canon 430EXII, the YN560III? and 600EXRT? I'm still new to this and learning. I just bought the YN560 as I wanted an extra strobe I can keep inlace and can't just tidy another 600 for that. I need a studio set up with this and perhaps the 430EXII. which I want to stay in situ so needed a cheap alternative for studio flash using either a canon 6d or canon 5d3? I can't afford the Odin. I just want the simplest set up with two strobes. Can you advise . thanks

Hi Phil. I love your videos. I wish you much success. I was looking for an 'mid-range" wireless trigger solution, and it looks like the 622C might fit the bill. Wanted something that was not high-end (Photixx Odin or Mini TT-1/Flex TT-5), nor at the very low end. I'm only using one Speedlight off-camera (Canon). I was wondering if you have seen this other new trigger from Photixx that seems to be in the midrange like the 622C? It's the Photixx Strato TTL just announced in Oct 2013. It cost a little more than the 622C, but it's still not $300 or $400. Do you think the Strato TTL is a good option to consider against the 622C? Thank you.

    Hey!
Thanks for the review. I'm most definitely buying a pair of these!
I've seen some other reviews (about Nikon version since I'm a Nikon person) and it seems that if you put a speedlight with a master feature you can change each flash settings from the master on camera. Just like the Odin you have in your review. Maybe that also works for Canon?

Thanks Phil, great video! Do you know if these are compatible with the Canon 7D and the Canon 430 EX (NOT II). I think the 7D won't be a problem as it has full wireless flash functionality but I'm concerned about my 2 x 430 EX's and whether or not I'll be able to control these flashes through the YN622C RF wireless system. Thanks again, I'll check out your portrait lighting website.

The user's manual of the YN622C mentions:
"Caution! Do not connect to the PC port any flash requiring trigger voltage more than 300V, or the transceiver may be damaged."
Can anyone confirm that the following two studio strobes will be safe to use? I've done several searches, and I'm not finding a clear answer. The two strobes in question are:

    1) Does the manual trigger mounted on the 622c fire correctly with the shutter sync, or does it fire before the shutter flash because of TTL pre-flashes?
    2) Can you just use a 622C transmitter and a manual trigger mounted on it to fire a bank of sync only receivers without any TTL flash in the system anywhere? Or do you also need a 622C receiver and a TTL flash in the system too?

    Hi there
I have been watching a lot of your tutorials on TH-cam and have learned stacks from you, thank you so much. I do have a couple of questions that I hope you could answer. both questions are based on the Yongnuo 565ex flash. The first question is, if you need to use the flash as a AF meter only by disabling the Flash Fire option, can one still use external flashes and if so how will they be triggered if the hot shoe is disabled? my second question is, when my 565EX is mounted to my 50D, I am unable to change settings like disable strobe pulse (modeling light) and a few other settings in the custom flash settings menu. Is the flash not compatible to allow changes of the settings or am I doing something wrong?
Keep up the great work, regards Peter Scott from Cape Town, South Africa

Excellent review and simple to understand. My question is: having canon 550/430exs flashes with 5dI and put 550ex on camera as master and 430ex as slave for wireless system and working fine. If i put 622c on camera will get AF assist beam and control the both flashes in canon own wireless system?. If not then any YN economical flash compatible flash with canon wireless system. Just want to add a third light and cannot afford canon own flash. Regret question being too long.

You need at least 580/430 Mk2's.. Also for 2 flashguns you need 3 transievers or 2 and a TX controller for the camera. I have 6 and 2 TX units. very good.

I have a canon 5d Mark III and I have one question. I just finishing purchasing the Yongnuo Yn622c-tx with two Yongnuo yn622c. I can control both my speed lights canon 430exii and Yongnuo yn568exii on manual. Though, when I try to control the flashes with ETTL nothing happens. Not one of the flashes changes according to what I change on my young yn622c-tx controller. Do I have to change any settings on my camera (5d mark iii) so that the ETTL works?

what would be a good ttl flash to complement this gadget?
would this gadget sync with other yongnuo receiver like yn603n?

I was using one OCF on this unit. Every once in a while it switches from A to B. I switch it back to A. When I hit test you can see it switching back and forth without the flash firing. Do you know what I did wrong?
