This is how bad political polarization has gotten. People are willing to work with foreign totalitarian regimes over their domestic opponents. The enemy of my enemy. I've talked about this in my videos "An addendum to "stop idolizing russia" by NFKRZ & addressing Eli from Russia & Gonzalo Lira" and "An Addendum to WhatIfAltHist's A Study of Decadence: Why do people become Tankies?". Another commentator, Freedom Alternative, has a couple of videos called "Russia is not great [1/3] - Cultural Enrichment" and "Putin is a Progressive". His most important video is "What is Duginism and why it matters". Freedom Alternative knows how to appeal to right-wingers, as do I.
Those same Americans in the video would come crying to the US government to save them from "evil Russia" if they ended up speaking their mind a little too much and got locked up in Lefortovo.
Exactly. TBH I'm not one of those who was happy about the Griner exchange. Not because Brittney is black or a lesbian but because she made an adult decision to go over there for money knowing damn well who Vlad Putin is with drugs she knew were illegal there. Then our country gives Russia back an ex arms dealer while they are illegally invading another country. If and big if I were ever to go to Russia I'd assume the responsibility of doing so knowing I may have to improvise my escape from a hostile foreign nation.

These are the kind of guys who go on vacation in Venezuela and want to move there because they stayed in a resort. Life is great when you have all the benefits without any of the hardships that a regular citizen would face.
Basically the same as anyone that visits third world countries, praising the 'amazing culture' and how life would be 'soooooo amazing' there. Fair enough some people actually would prefer a tougher life like that but for the most part, they are shielded from the hardships the local population has to endure.
Two comments here, just because: 1 - when someone says people in poorer countries are much more open and friendly, this comes from necessity. When you have very little, you need to share what little there is to survive. If you do not share, the next time you lack food (or money etc), no one will share with you. In a wealthy socitety you pay your taxes, knowing that everyone, including you. will be cared for when needed. Also, consider the difference between how you treat your neighbours and how you treat guests. 2 - This is a story of a guy that had a near death experience. During the time his heart was stopped, his soul was knocking on Heavens door. Gabriel told him it was not his time yet, but that he could take a look while he was there anyway, so first he was on a tour of Heaven. Lovely green hills,. cherubs (the cute angels) flying around playing ethereal music. But that was it, just an eternity of singing and praising the Lord. So he asked if the could se downstairs as well, and went to hell. Green hills, in the forms of golf courts. When he was done golfing, he bar was stocked with every spirit mankind had ever imagined, and the pool area was full of beautiful women ready to cater to his every whim. At this time, the man was resuscitated and returned to the realm of the living. Many decades later he once again was at the Pearly Gates,. and told that he had done well enough, he was welcome in. "Is it ok of I decline, downstairs was much better", the man asked. "If you really wish it so, but you will not be allowed back in again if you regret it." "No worries" thought the man, and down he went. The first week he was on the night shift cleaning the pool area. During the dayttime he was working in the cellar, stoking the furnace. There was no rest time for him, he worked all day and all night with no sleep. So he complained to the manager (we all know who that is?): "This is not at all who it was when I was here before." "Well," said the Dark Lord, "last time you were here as a tourist, now you came here to work."

@@Lavithz Healthcare is part of what people need, including me and you. In Europe (including Russia), at least, healthcare is free and pretty good (the quality of care does obviously depend where you live). If any disease is "easily curable" - e.g. an infection, then I can tell you that any of the healthcare systems in Europe and Russia will provide adequate antibiotics to treat said infection. This does get trickier when it comes to very complex and hard to treat diseases, unfortunately (but these are worldwide issues, sadly enough).

Even hospitals in rural areas you can receive top of the line treatment (which I have many times in those areas). I bet at least one of these wonderful Americans has an arrest warrant or a ton of debt collecters waiting for them back home. They left the US for a reason, and it might not just be about politics. If you ever study the backgrounds of the few American soldiers who fled to North Korea during the war, they all left family problems, poverty, and/or legal problems behind. The most recent soldier who ran into North Korea is exactly the same.
American society is built on debt. It's so ironic that you class criminals and people who have debt collectors after them together in the same sentence. That's the American way, get yourself in debt and pay it off, build your credit score and rinse and repeat. Keep consuming, it helps to keep the rich, rich and the poor, poor. In America credit is so important that you are lambasted and ridiculed for having a poor credit score and here you are, proof of that mentality. Being in debt isn't freedom, one day when you grow up you will understand that.

I've been a professor for about 13 years now, and these guys talking about "woke ideology" "infecting" universities don't know what they are talking about. I don't know the political leanings of half the professors I work with, and most of them couldn't tell mine either. The only ones I was sure of were the diehard Trump supporters since they were the loudest about their beliefs. What I do know is that occasionally we get students who lived a very sheltered life and they sometimes struggle to adjust to the fact that most of what they know is not supported by data or facts. For example, my background is in economic history. I was covering antebellum tariffs, and one of my "proud Southern" students remarked about how tariffs caused the Civil War because "the North forced the South to pay the lion's share of tariffs". I pointed out that the North actually paid the bulk (over 80%) of the tariffs, which blew his mind since he had always been taught the opposite. Showed him the treasury archive records to prove it, so he pivoted to "well, tariff revenue isn't consumption. Northern ports collected more revenue, but then those goods likely made their way South, so it could still be true that the South shouldered the largest burden of tariffs." Good attempt and I applauded him for the idea, but then pointed out that because the South's population was 1/3rd that of the North, and half of that population were slaves who didn't consume much (if any) European goods, it wouldn't be possible unless the South consumed over 6 times more imported goods than Northerners. And we know from primary sources (records and statements from British and French merchants) that one reason Northern ports were preferred was the quicker access to the largest base of consumers, i.e. Northerners, who consumed far more imported goods than Southerners, who mainly relied on goods manufactured at home. We even looked at a list of the top imported goods into the US: wool, steel, tobacco, alcohol, and sugar. I pointed out that steel was clearly consumed more by the Northern factories and railroads, and thick wool winter jackets served little use in the deep South, and that the South had their own tobacco and sugar with little need of foreign imports. Indeed, tariffs on imported tobacco and sugar actually *helped* Southern farmers, while the tariffs on steel harmed Northern industries and consumers since it made manufactured goods and rails more expensive. Now, some students take in this information well and adjust their viewpoints to match the data. They realize they've been exposed to only one viewpoint and that the point of university is to expose yourself to new ideas and expand your sources of information. Happened to me too. I was raised in a very conservative and religious household, and being well-read, thought I was hot-shit and already knew everything. University crushed that arrogance and helped me realize the huge gaps in my knowledge. Other students, which I imagine these guys were similar, don't take it well at all. Instead they reject the facts as "woke" and even accuse their professors of being "woke" as well (when the vast majority are center-left in my experience). They don't learn much from university at all and purposely go through life ignoring anything that contradicts their views.
In addition to maybe not really understanding what life is like for most Russians, I also think just moving to a foreign country, especially when you are young, can be a pretty heady experience -- can feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland. I experienced this myself after visiting Japan as a high school student. Long time fan Roman and I agree with most things you said here but I disagree with what you said “westerners will never understand the hardships of poverty” as an American from the south I’ve grown up in poverty in underdeveloped areas where crime and murder is rampant and so have many Americans
I'm sorry to hear that but you can't compare Russia and USA at all. It is so much worse in Russia. You really should be thankful for being born in the USA.
I'd agree and disagree with both Roman and those guys. I've lived in Russia and Ukraine for many years (да, говорю по русский). I definitely can tell the US has changed a lot and the "woke culture" is taking over the country. It's not a question of hurting our feelings but in reality you can lose your job or get less opportunities if you don't fit their requirements. But in the other hand living in Russia as a foreigner is very different than living as a Russian citizen and yes you basically live in a bubble.
When i work with people from othet places, i ask a loooot of questions. My last job was awesome, i met people from lots of places. My boss was Romanian, who spoke often of a revolutionary war. Poverty. She did feel there was outside influence when i asked. She often bragged about a degree she recieved free due to her excellence in her field (engineering) Another guy was from Georgia, and he was the first to tell me the war was over western influnce of Ukrainian policies and the EU. He told me the main goal was to prevent Ukrainian EU membership. There was a very attractive girl from Crimea. What SHE told me was a lot of people miss USSR. She said her home had resorts and beaches and workers were treated with visits to relax and recuperate. She said they all spoke Russian , yet identified as independent. I can also say that all 3 had an incredible superiority issue. They kept to themselves, and were not shy about telling us how much better it is there vs here. They werent friendly to outsiders, and when they would show off pictures of their homes...the "beautiful " areas and landmarks...everything was always very plain, grey, stone, and unimpressive
a fifth of the population of Romania left as soon as they could after joining the EU because the corruption is so bad. They should never have been let in. Similarly Ukraine has a long way to go before its fit to join the EU.

To answer you truthfully. Yes everyone forgets or doesn't learn about Chechen Wars. In fact I don't think wars about minorities were ever taken as a subject most of the time until it came about your nation which lived by one of a million circumstances. So yeah. It isn't closely studied enough to never repeat such tragedy ever again. Then again, people are maliciousness and use any justification no matter the morals, mentality, freedom or opinions.

The irony is that if you talk to actual educators in the US, you'll find that while the woke stuff can get tiring, the real problem is, as always, state sponsored censorship, like in Florida. These people just don't want to have to live in a world where their is are challenged, they aren't actually about freedom.
The problem is that woke doesn't mean anything and never did. It's just people crying about women and black people in movies or gays in video games. And it's evolved into saying slavery was bad is woke. Mentioning Jim crow is woke, people should have proper rights and freedoms is leftist propaganda etc
@@MrInuhanyou123 woke is real. Identity politics is real. They are both taken to extremes and end up bad when done so as well. The thing is woke has been co-opted by the right as a dog whistle. I would say woke is recognizing the importance and relevance of subjective relativistic experience of others, which often looks the same as empathy. Just taken too far, it becomes silly and even destructive. For instance, to take it to an extreme, you can empathize with and pity the homicidally delusional schizophrenic, but still recognize it's better for everyone if he's monitored by professionals in a controlled environment. Woke taken to far is saying that poor guy should be let out and allowed to live his truth. The right goes to the other extreme and says only their perspective matters and empathy is for pussies. Kara-Murza compared his case to show trials from the Stalin era.[96] In his closing speech before the court, he said: "I know that the day will come when the darkness over our country will be gone. When the war [in Ukraine] will be called a war, and the usurper [in the Kremlin] will be called a usurper; when those who have ignited this war will be called criminals instead of those who tried to stop it... And then our people will open their eyes and shudder at the sight of the horrific crimes committed in their names."[95]
Sometimes I think there are people that love living in an authoritarian system if the points align with their beliefs but if you confront them about it they him-haw around it with bs like what these guys said.
Please can we send Tim Pool? He is an avid Putin supporter and complains incessantly about US American tolerance for diversity. When these guys lose favor and privileges under Putin or his successor they will be asking for help from the US embassy. Thanks for your work, and I wish you the best!
Yes indeed; I saw the original video and several issues came to mind. On the one hand, I don't believe a foreigner should criticize the host nation, so great if these people are happy in Russia; on the other hand, criticizing their own country from abroad is more than crass if they still hold US citizenship. Finally, these Americans are really obsessed with wokeness. I can't remember ever thinking about this concept except when someone of their ilk, claiming to combat it, shoves it down my throat. You can navigate Western Europe fine outside abysses of wokeness.
But don't you find it strange that Roman is piling on these guys and accusing them of racism etc, when he has never lived in America and never experienced western culture 'up front'? He doesn't ask why these people are saying what they are saying, merely implied that they are Z supporting 'NPC's'. At least the Americans have lived in both Russia and America, in that sense their experience should lend itself to a stronger comparison.
@@mseerossThey are definitely "racist" they just don't know it. If diversity and inclusion are Marxist values you don't have values. They seem to think white people are being punished somehow. It is racist in a roundabout way.

I'm an American living in Thailand now and one common theme is that it's pretty easy to not really connect to local perspective as a foreigner, or to get swept up in one biased side of complex issues. These guys are clearly intentionally turning a blind eye to issues there, so it's just an extreme case. It reminds me of that TH-camr Serpentza saying how great China was, then flipping that to how awful it is once he was forced to leave the country. Communicating both perspectives gets TH-cam clicks, but there is a less black and white larger picture. The US has pros and cons too, they're just not well captured in these video statements.
@@AimForMyHead81 I get what you mean. there are a half dozen stereotypical categories of foreigners living in Thailand for different reasons, so really you need to push the potential implication flagging down a level, but it does kind of apply in different forms across most of them.
From Serpentza's perspective I'm sure China felt great when he was there in the early 2000's it was opening up to the west and coming from South Africa the opportunities had to be fantastic. Then things began to get more closed with Xi rising and anti west sentiment along with being a foreigner if you are critical the government there will harass you and he was eventually forced out. People just want to live their lives and have the opportunity to survive and thrive that's why plenty say nothing negative and some even get money from the government to push their narrative. It isn't right but then again as a foreigner what right do you have to involve yourself in a situation that at worst for you means deportation but for your local friends and coworkers could mean execution.
The expats living in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan usually talk about both the pros and cons in their TH-cam channels. But those expats living in china talk like cons don’t exist there. If they are not living in the white monkey bubble they must be straightly working for the Chinese propaganda agency 😂 I heard these days Thailand has surpassed china in many economic and technology developments and I wish there’s going to be real good expat TH-camrs in Thailand making real videos about Thailand like those in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan
Hi Roman, just wanted to throw this out there, you’re content in the last year has been killer! As an American it’s great to get insight on Russian culture and politics. Keep up the great work!
Roman doesn't provide an insight into Russian culture and politics, he is just trying to make a living on TH-cam by telling Western audiences what they want to hear about Russia. He is not any different from a US person who moved to Russia and is liked by the locals, because he or she is giving them "insights" on the American culture and politics that cater to their bias. Roman is trying too hard though :) I am not saying that he is not entertaining, but Roman twists a lot of things to further his narrative, thus giving people outside of Russia an inaccurate representation of the place. Point is, the man had left Russia because he was afraid of getting drafted. Nothing wrong with that, lot's of Americans fled the country during the Vietnam war for the same reason. Now he has to generate views, accumulate likes and ask for donations to eat and pay rent, so he sells what general populous in the West are eager to buy. Honestly, I think Roman's personal story will have a sad ending - he won't go back to Russia, not because "the regime" will prosecute him :), but because his country has changed since the beginning of the war, and people like him are now considered to be cowards, traitors, and generally a target for jokes and pokes for those who have stayed behind and are saying FU to the collective West. Now, that's only part of his problem, the second part is that no matter how much he works on his accent and tries to demonstratively separate himself from Russia, he will always be perceived as Russian :) Sad story, really, the man who is despised by his own "tribe" and will never be accepted as an equal into the "western tribe". Even his livelihood, this YT channel, can be taken way at any time if enough Ukrainians decide they just simply don't like him and report this channel for whatever reasons. It actually happens all the time, Ukrainians get together and gang up on Russian channels, even if just for sh*ts and giggles, and continue filling reports and that chanel gets shut. Just because we are the victims and Russian mofos are the aggressors :))) He is not alone in his anger though, all of the Russian liberals are facing the same problem now: no matter how loudly they scream that Putin is evil and Russia is sh*t, they are still outsiders, and not to be trusted and treated as part of the West :)
@@dmitry3909 How can you be sure of what you just wrote? You don’t have a window into Roman’s mind, we as viewers can trust him solely upon the basis of what he shares in his videos as he has done nothing to indicate that he is not being honest.

I enjoy TH-cam travel videos and people on the street type interviews but I have noticed that many of the people and organizations doing them have a tendency to take whatever the person they’re interviewing says about themselves or particular issues at face value and then frame those narratives as “the real story” or some kind of infallible truth in contrast to a supposedly false narrative. Two comments here, just because:
1 - when someone says people in poorer countries are much more open and friendly, this comes from necessity.

"If you really wish it so, but you will not be allowed back in again if you regret it."
"No worries" thought the man, and down he went.
The first week he was on the night shift cleaning the pool area.
During the dayttime he was working in the cellar, stoking the furnace.
There was no rest time for him, he worked all day and all night with no sleep.
So he complained to the manager (we all know who that is?):
"This is not at all who it was when I was here before."
"Well," said the Dark Lord, "last time you were here as a tourist, now you came here to work."

Even hospitals in rural areas you can receive top of the line treatment (which I have many times in those areas). As a result, the EU and other areas of the world get the benefit of being the second market which includes lower prices.
Northern ports collected more revenue, but then those goods likely made their way South, so it could still be true that the South shouldered the largest burden of tariffs."
Good attempt and I applauded him for the idea, but then pointed out that because the South's population was 1/3rd that of the North, and half of that population were slaves who didn't consume much (if any) European goods, it wouldn't be possible unless the South consumed over 6 times more imported goods than Northerners.

I fell in love with the place, but it was only after living there for a few years later in life that I started to see how stressful and conformist the country was. @@MrInuhanyou123 woke is real. Identity politics is real. They are both taken to extremes and end up bad when done so as well. The thing is woke has been co-opted by the right as a dog whistle. Just taken too far, it becomes silly and even destructive. For instance, to take it to an extreme, you can empathize with and pity the homicidally delusional schizophrenic, but still recognize it's better for everyone if he's monitored by professionals in a controlled environment.
