None of us say that. Every country should be able to chose for itself, as should: Cuba, Bolivia, Vietnam etc.
And most of us just want to tell people how the west either exaggerates numbers, or when not, It's still hypocritical since the US commits many of the same atrocities, and the claim of "anti-communism" as a war goal is just used for imperialist exploitative war.
However in this case, Russia is obivously doing exactly that, also many communists don't seem to get that Russia ≠ Soviet Union. No matter how much one idolizes it. This is pretty stupid and goes completely against marxist doctrine.
This is just another imperialist war, just this time it's Russia.

You think that the economic situation in Cuba is caused solely by the government? Let me give you some history, first they had a US backed dictator called Batista who kept slavery legal and served the elite of his country and the foreign elite in the US. Castro freed these slaves but also nationalized industries, therefore they got a little thing called an embargo. And the amount of terrorism the US acted out against Cuba is insane.
And North Koreas situation was mainly caused by the US as well, they did even have more economic growth than the South for years until the USSR collapsed.
And what's your alternative? All the fascists the US propped up instead? You think that the South Korean dictatorships were a nice place to live? Being not just a communist but an alledged one got you massacred and killed.
And Iran? When did Iran have a communist leadership? Are you seriously saying Mosaddegh was a communist?
You probably need to study history some more. Or keep wanting the US to 'bomb everyone into freedom', hurray! Another fascist dictatorship, but oops, this time it really was 'in the name of democracy'.

I'm Scotch-Irish and Sicilian, no slavic or Russian blood. I've always loved the Russian people but hated their government. Part of why I learned Russian was to visit Ukraine too since a huge number of Ukrainians in the east speak it as a first language and many more speak it as a second language. Now Putin has ruined all of that.

My Russian friends are like you but cannot/ still do not want to leave their families and education behind. My impression from you, 1420, the russians I've personally spoke to online and in the USA, and my knowledge of Russian culture and history in general, is that most Russians don't care about politics or just repeat what the government says to avoid getting in trouble because they value stability and their families over political freedom.

The freedom to speak your mind and have extreme opinions against the rulers have immense importance. Even the neonazis , the Putinistas and the in closet wannabe fascists have a voice somehow. These extremist are best met with the majority of sane people that also have free speech. And so we create a real debate, on a very broad scale and almost everyone is engaged. Compare that to nations like Russia, china, Iran and the like, that have spent much effort and supression to keep the population distant from own opinions and making them apolitcal sentient beings. I think the biggest issue with everyone on all sides is something you mentioned in this video, that being "not having a clue about nuance". It's ok to like communism and analyze former and current communist countries by pointing out what was bad, what was good for the time and place, what to learn from, and what might be packed with misinformation (or not). What matters is here and now. How could we apply things from there and then to here and now and how could we change it to make it better?
And as a side, I HAVE stepped foot in Bulgaria, a former Soviet-aligned country, and got to see all sorts of different perspectives from people who either lived, or had family that lived under communism. I plan on seeing many more countries in my time.

Hi Roman, I'm a diaspora Chinese who is anti-CCP.
I have noted that a lot of Western leftists and tankies very wrongheadedly support the CCP's excesses as well as the memory of the old USSR, including Stalinism. They often tend to ignore lived-experiences of those people who know exactly what went on during those eras, and (as you highlighted) use strawmen to attempt to destroy our expression of our lived experiences.
It is both extremely disappointing because some of them purport to be sympathetic towards the plight of POCs and other persecuted minorities, but at the same time trample on our narratives.

    • @theyabib3323
      @theyabib3323 ปีที่แล้ว +19

No we don't. You obviously have a bad experience and I'm not here to invalidate that. It's just that we promote a more nuanced view on the world. Media here, to portray it's narrative, often falls back into pretty racist rhetoric to justify it.
I have related stories too. My communist family had to flee under nazi germany. Some of my *at-the-time-east-german* family was partially sent to soviet gulags. This is both horrible. Still it tells us nothing about the inherent doctrines of communism/marxism. There's an actual discussion to be had here. However, when our narratives commonly rely on biased CIA informations or similar, It's easy to be uncritical. This doesn't mean we support China or everything it does. It does mean that we are against imperialist action of the US, and hypocritical arguments on their side, when they commit the same atrocities.
We don't use strawman arguments at all. People think that communism killed 100 million people, which is *actually* used as an argument - not a strawmen. This however, is untrue. Or atleast lacking in nuance. The 100 million number comes from the "black book of communism", which purposefully used stupid calculations, like: counting dead nazis. Not to say that communist regimes have "all just been good fun", but there's never any substanciated claim about how many of these deaths actually relate to *inherently communist* policies. No, Stalins purges weren't.
If we do similar calculations for capitalist countries "how many people died in wars perpetrated by *capitalist* countries?", you would come to a similar number. I'd even argue that there *are* more subtanciated *actually inherently* capitalist actions, which resulted in deaths.
The wars against much of left-leaning or socialist leaders in middle america? Caused by *american corperate* interest. Something inherently capitalist.
      Anyways...

It takes a true patriot to be willing to endanger his cushy seat, to try and help out the segregated. Thank you for your willingness to endanger your own well-being to get some of this vital first-hand knowledge out to the world. There are people like me who feel terribly about the war and wish there was more to be done. It may seem confusing, but it is comforting to hear this type of information. There were numerous anti-war lobbyists, groups, and politicians across the country. Not to mention multiple NATO nations refused to participate and arguably everyone hates the fact America went stumbling around the Middle East. Not many liked the invasions then and now with foresight of decades on barely anybody likes it at all. The US rolled over both countries like a steamroller to an orphanage and as it turns out many people cheered for the orphanage.

I'm really annoyed that a former member (Roger Waters) of my favorite band (Pink Floyd) actually spoke at that recent rally via video. He's really gone off the deep end with that speech along with that previous speech he gave to the UN Security Council on behalf of Russia. I'm sad because I grew up on Pink Floyd music and Roger Waters is siding with Putin while he currently lives in New York City.
