The BZ4X/Solterra made more sense for me with all the incentives and rebates. I don't need gas. But I am glad to see I share common parts with such a popular model.
After having an AWD car in Canada, theres zero percent chance id buy an economy car without it. Most people who commute far enough to justify an expensive commuter for the fuel economy, is going to be driving through winter conditions where AWD is the undisputed GOAT. Then you can also go to your cottage and not get stuck spinning your wheels trying to go up a steep gravel incline.
Yeah idk what that little rant about AWD was about, had me very confused. If not winter driving conditions (which Canada and half of America sees plenty of), what is the point of AWD to them? Do they think it’s just for rally racing?
I love the way Yuri looks like he just rolled out of bed and started work and Jakub looks like he woke up at 5 am and got everything ready and prepared 😂
Saw one on the road the other day and was stunned when I read "Prius" on the rear. It's actually a really good looking car, unlike every other Prius ever.
I kinda want to slap a widebody kit air suspension and some super wide wheels and make the coolest DD ever. This car has some really cool body lines and styling potential
I have a 2015. I bought it new. I am still getting 50 mpg gallon. It was built in Japan. It has 188k miles on it. I love it. I want to drive it the rest of my life. I camp in it on a 6 ' aluminum camp tent. Other times I sleep in the reclined drivers seat. I have a water pill RX. I carry a urinal bottle with an female attachment, reliable against spill if you use common sense. Then I do not have leave the car to walk to the restroom at 3 am. It has a lot of head room.ftony to back.
I jumped into this car at the auto show. The one that really stuck out to me was how low the roof line was and that I bumped my head getting into it. It looks blah in grey, but gorgeous in yellow. I had to get out and check the sign it's so nice!
I think Toyota did a good job at pitching this generation of the Prius. If I may, Toyota know that the market is congested and they also know that they need to sell more hybrids. Thus, this Prius generation came to be. I think it was right timing especially since Toyota hasn't went all in on EVs. I suppose a possible slogan for this generation of the Prius is something in the line of "A performance hybrid!"
The blue ambient lighting flashes when the traffic in front of you starts moving and you're still on the brakes. Just bought a Prius Prime and my family was disappointed I bought a car which failed the visor test. But...great car otherwise.
lol, if the visor test is the only drawback, I think you are doing ok. 😉 Along the same vein, it is a bit annoying they removed the sunglasses holder in the roof, but also not a deal breaker... Only real complaint is they put the slower 3.5kw charger in Prime rather than the 6.6, but it seems to be space-related. Ah well, I love my 2023 Prime anyway. 😎
I actually really want one of these cars. I fully believe that hybrid is the future over full electric and I just love the way this thing looks for whatever reason
What!? I love the honk when you lock the car. I can easily find my car without having to use the panic, I can know I locked the car when I'm not close to it. I also have a honda crv and that quiet beep is not loud enough in a parking lot
my older prius (2019) has more driver's headroom space inside, cuz toyota had to make this new one more aerodynamic and have the highest point of the car located past behind the driver's seat area. The neighbor I have down the street tells me he frequently hits his head on the top door well area while getting in and out of his 2023 prius, and he's 2 inches shorter than me and I'm over 6ft.
I think an older model that my family used to own had a plate or sheet built into the bottom to cover the underside of the engine, exhuast pipes, etc. to keep the car running well and smoothly. Do these newer ones still have them?
I didn’t realized I rented a 40k CAD car back in Japan this summer. Fuel economy is very good, barely cost us 1 tank of gas for a roadtrip around izu peninsula and Fuji mountain
Don't get me wrong - I owned a '90 CRX for 5 years back in the day and LOVED it. I only sold it because I bought an S2000. BUT...that 50mpg CRX was likely an Hf model and had a top speed only marginally above your MPG (I had a DX and it was slow but didn't quite get 50mpg). The CRX had precisely 2 seats, no safety features (save a seatbelt), was immensely tiny, had absolutely crap radio, and was prone to leaking. This new Prius gets its MPG while being gigantically faster while offering significantly more space for people and/or luggage, has very good tech, is very comfortable, and has excellent safety features. Comparing the two cars and saying "but I got this mpg before" is like saying you were once able to make it to the North Pole on a dog sled when looking at the Top Gear Polar Special. Sure it happened, but that's about the only thing in common between the two forms of transport.
I've had mine 9 months and 26k miles. I'm 6'3 and do fit in the car with a couple inches of head room. In the back my head hits though. As far as its negatives. One is the automatic lane centering uses steering wheel feedback to monitor if you are holding the wheel. So for me it constantly pops up saying take control even though im holding the wheel simply because im holding it too lightly. Other things are more minor such as if your audio is paused it will not allow you to adjust the volume. It literally pops up saying audio is paused and the volume will not be adjusted. Simply stupid. I drive 98% of the time in eco mode and the lifetime average mpg so far is 50.3.
I have two jobs both far away. One is mostly driving throughout the city maintaining computers so a lot of driving stopping walking starting engine , driving stopping. I spend 50 USD per month on gas
Good news (prediction) has arrived. A derivative model of the current Prius is scheduled to be released. The car name in Japan is "Prius α". A station wagon-like minivan (overall height 1,545mm). It is slightly larger than a sedan except for its overall width, offering good visibility and ease of driving. The rear seats are spacious, and three-row seating is available. The rear has power sliding doors on both sides. The powertrain is a 2-liter hybrid and a 1.8-liter hybrid. It appears that a 1.8-liter hybrid will be available for the first time for the general public. The 1.8 liter has less power than the 2 liter at 140 HP, but the fuel efficiency is excellent and seems to exceed 70 MPG. I will report further information as soon as I catch it. Toyota's new 5th generation Prius has undergone major changes to its exterior, making it even cooler. It looks like a 5-door coupe. The new Prius has a large front pillar, so the top of the instrument panel is deeper than the previous model, making it difficult to see the bonnet and the tip of the body. Because the seating position has been lowered, the rear seats feel a little cramped and closed in. Power performance has been significantly improved compared to the previous model. The hybrid system has entered its fifth generation, and the driving force in the practical rotation range has increased. It is easier to drive, including improved power performance, and has improved fuel efficiency.
Rear view doesn't matter to me, I don't even use the rear mirror because it just shows tailgating and bright lights. I put my mirror to the ceiling, and backing in it already has back camera + using your side mirrors.
Ordered a loaded PHEV and owned 4 previously. We were super excited. When it arrived, it was much smaller than previous models, had less cargo, and a low rear ceiling. The driver display was poorly placed. The tech was amazing, but it wouldn’t be livable at all. We didn’t purchase and lost our deposit.
Yeah no every car I’ve had pissed me off with the lock noises. First press locks the doors, no noise. Second click summons forth the full-body, somebody cuts you off, almost louder than just using the horn volume honk. I have to look for the lights or stand beside the door to listen for the locks themselves because sometimes I press the button and it doesn’t lock, either didn’t press it hard enough or the battery is dying. It’s nice to have the piano key feedback or the gentle, quiet beep to at least let me know the car got a signal from the fob.
I can't believe I hadn't realized you guys hadn't reviewed a normal Prius and just the Prius Prime! Well, to the people out there that want to help the environment I would most definitely recommend you get a hybrid, either a regular Hybrid like this Prius or a Plug-In Hybrid like a Prius Prime (Or any model you like) Because they genuinely help the world and science is not good enough to have great EVs for everyone right now!
My KIA makes this chime every time I get in it. The wife heard me complain about it and found a way to switch it off sort of as a surprise gift thing. I got in....after a few times....I started to miss it...then I turned it back on :(
Good review and you Canucks are right you don’t need all-wheel-drive. It’s like people that use premium gas thinking it’s gonna make the car run better.
If you live in a snow belt in Canada and want to feel confident driving fast through a snowstorm (which seem to only happen a few times a year now days) than you might want AWD. Otherwise you don't need it. Some places further north or out east should probably have AWD or even 4WD. Southern Ontario has no need imo.
I currently driving this as a rental, I was very surprised. I hated it Prius’s because I like cars that are sporty. But this is a way more sporty version of the Prius. Which is pretty cool because there is Japanese racing team that races a Prius in super GT
Was never a prius fan but I would totally own one if there was ever a deal. I like how sleek looking they are exterior wise but the interior can use a redo. Its funky looking me.
Is the height of this vehicle still shrunk? What I remember when I tried the newest Prius is that it was hard to get in and out of, and the rear seat was unusable to me.
@itsreallyjakub the wireless charger is on the center console closest to the passenger. If you're in the passenger seat it's next to your left thigh. Phone pocket works better than most car wireless chargers but it's not perfect. 11:51
I would've said the same about a month ago, but when the 2025 Camry is now pulling similar milage numbers, also looks good and gives more room, why would people spend a similar amount for a Prius? The Prius Prime perhaps, but the value proposition of the regular Prius is now diminishing by Toyota's own doing.
Agree...now the only reason to buy the Prius is because you like the styling better than other Toyota Hybrids. Both the Camry and Corolla hybrids are roomier and more cargo/passenger practical.
A counterpoint, as a city dweller I think the Camry is too large, especially for parking. I also like the versatility of the lift back of the Prius vs. the conventional trunk. Also also i doubt the Camry will have similar MPG to the Prius in real world usage. More weight and larger displacement engine.
Kind of laughed at the rear window being too narrow segment. Obviously never driven a '73 Mustang fastback or a ''73 Gran Torino Sport. Learned to drive on the latter.
If you went to Whistler 10 times a year every winter + climbed up Cypress once per week, what's would you choose: 1. AWD + winter tires OR 2. AWD + all-weather OR 3. FWD + winter tires OR FWD + all-weather?
The #1 problem with the new Prius Prime PHEV in Canada is taking one home. Putting your name on a list and waiting 2 years isn't good. Toyota needs to make more.
I prefer the previous generation styling. Lol. Yes I’m serious. This version I just don’t like it. Looks even lower to get into. You have to duck and crawl into it I’m assuming. The cargo area got smaller. I don’t know. The previous version was nice. I test drove a white 2019 Prius. I liked it. The AC was sooooo cold. It was 100 degrees that day and the car was sitting in the lot all day in the hot sun and it cooled down like nothing. My glasses were foggy. I never been in a car like that before. I don’t know if it’s because it was white color etc. but I noticed during the 20 minute test drive the gas gauge went down a bit. I was expecting it not to at all being a hybrid. 🤷♂️ what gives. But to this day I still think about that air conditioning lol.
As a 2006 then 2013 Prius driver, in Chicago...you do NEED AWD for winters, just in case......I LOVE my Prius but was planning on buying something else WITH AWD until they added that option to Prius.
Definitely. Not only is the Prius more fuel efficient, it also has a much nicer interior, better tech, and more cargo space. Prius is faster too, a lot faster
I have the new one when it first came out in late 23 and I have to say it is awesome for the money. Why pay more when you don’t have to and no constant charging. Everyday life is not Formula 1. I park it in my 3 car garage and only need to wash it at a service every 3 months or so and Toyota provide the first 2 years or 25k miles which ever comes first maintenance service complimentary. I have a friend with a Ferrari collection *(he writes it all off on his business), and has a long term maintenance contract with his mechanic and dealer primarily cuz of his luxury dealer operation purpose….Otherwise you are driving for unnecessary attention and crime potential…..
Yes EV make sense if you’re in the right situation. I live in SoCal and have a mustang Mac e , have full solar power for home and car. So I have zero cost for fuel. Not bad nice car better than most.
This Prius has various easter eggs molded onto the plastic parts like a Jeep which is amusing. The lack of rear seat headroom, buttons for the radio, and the weird gauge cluster are frustrating.
Toyota hybrids don't actually use a CVT. They call it eCVT, but they don't really have a transmission in the traditional sense. They do sound and act the same with the no shifty drone, but no actual CVT transmission.

@@maxcalder1010 Nice, Glad Toyota is finally building a better Prius!
Do they think it’s just for rally racing?
the piano noises while you were smashing all the buttons had me howling... thanks for the super vid
This is the happiest I’ve seen anyone drive a Prius
One thing I loved about the Prius was how roomy it felt as a small car. A bit sad to see that head space disappear in exchange for a more sleek look.
I don’t even see Prius in my area of California anymore. Teslas, Rivian and BMWs seem to be the top three.
Then I do
not have leave the car to walk to the restroom at 3 am.
It has a lot of head room.ftony to back.
I had a 2014 I wanted to drive forever, but sadly, hurricane Helene totalled it with saltwater. I get my 2024 limited on Tuesday.
I thought that’s what it was! Thanks
lol, if the visor test is the only drawback, I think you are doing ok.
Got some terrible friends willing to film all this without telling you about your bedhead!
my older prius (2019) has more driver's headroom space inside, cuz toyota had to make this new one more aerodynamic and have the highest point of the car located past behind the driver's seat area.
My dealer told me 2 1/2 - 3 years to get hold of this... :/
I love the lock unlock sound on the new Prius. It sounds futuristic.
I love the piano sounds for some reason.
the prius's CVT isn't a traditional belt/pulley thing, it's toyota's own 'e-CVT' with planetary gears
I saw one of these driving around for the first time the other day and I was blown away!
its dope these 2 homies are still vibing and making these vids
If they made a wagon, I might consider buying one instead of an SUV.
The trunk is pretty big it’s almost a hatch
I didn’t realized I rented a 40k CAD car back in Japan this summer. Fuel economy is very good, barely cost us 1 tank of gas for a roadtrip around izu peninsula and Fuji mountain
I absolutely love the microscopic camera shots.
My 91 Honda CRX got 49.9 on the freeway.
One of the best cars ever.
The CRX was super light. I think it was 2200 pounds.
@@afterburn2600 some how the JDM version had a back seat.
Yeah, all down hill.
Bad reputation from Ghana. 😢😢
I'm from Ghana and I really enjoy your review guys. Thumbs up 👍🏾
Seriously how did we sink so low as a country I'm from Ghana too. I love this channel anyways.
Dude you should buy a used Tesla Model 3 now while prices are down! You could get a nice example for about $20k
12:15 piano sounds made me think it was from my next door co-worker lol 😂 Awesome video, thanks!
The ambient lighting flashes because there is a sensor or camera that can tell when you are looking at the road
Those little designs on the dash remind me of Windows 3.1 screen backgrounds 10:38
I bought the '23 Camry Hybrid, regretted not looking at the Prius later XD
piano noises at 12:15 made me almost JUMP out my chair holy smokes
Wish I got this instead of my tesla 4 years ago. Now with the price dropping im stuck with it till the wheels fall off
I can't believe I hadn't realized you guys hadn't reviewed a normal Prius and just the Prius Prime!
I got in....after a few times....I started to miss it...then I turned it back on :(
It's actually what I hoped Mustang would become 15 years ago. A 2 door coupe with a liftback so it's cool looking and convinient to use as well.
Don’t see a point in getting this when they have a better version and the Hybrid Camry
I miss the hatchback of the old ones. This does look better than a Camry imo though.
This is more efficient than the hybrid Camry. But I could understand somebody going for the Camry anyways.
Made in Japan is one thing that comes to mind
@@thomas735so the Prius is made in Japan and the camery isn’t?
I bought the '23 Camry Hybrid XLE. I really like it but wish I got the 12 mpg more of the Prius but eh...38~40 is fine
Good review and you Canucks are right you don’t need all-wheel-drive. It’s like people that use premium gas thinking it’s gonna make the car run better.
Damn shame they have discontinued the sale of the Prius in Australia :( Yet the Corolla Hybrid is advertised with the same fuel economy as the Prius..
Yuri: Horsepower And torque
Jacob: 196 HP And 139 lb feet of torque From a 2 litre 4 cylinder hybrid
I Like that part
If you live in a snow belt in Canada and want to feel confident driving fast through a snowstorm (which seem to only happen a few times a year now days) than you might want AWD. Otherwise you don't need it. Some places further north or out east should probably have AWD or even 4WD. Southern Ontario has no need imo.
Idk why companies are so obsessed with low profile tires, give me them meaty sidewalls for more comfort.
Their "XLE" has no sunroof?
Is the height of this vehicle still shrunk? What I remember when I tried the newest Prius is that it was hard to get in and out of, and the rear seat was unusable to me.
I am 6 foot 2 with shoes on and hit my head getting into the back seat on the new Prius. My hair rubs the headliner.
Front is low but workable. Back is bad, you can't lean back at all. Usable for children, and short-haul for adults, only.
"Unless you're in Qc" hahaha loved it! T'as bien raison.
The ambient flashes to let you know that the car has moved and time to go. It's handy if your not paying attention in traffic...lol
The flashing ambient lights is to warn you that the car in front of you is slowing or coming to a stop.
I would make the case that this is one of the most important cars manufactured in the last 10 years. What an achievement.
Jakub: I'm gonna power wash my driveway.
Yuri: Sweet, i'll bring my microscope lens!
👽🤷♂
If you went to Whistler 10 times a year every winter + climbed up Cypress once per week, what's would you choose: 1. AWD + winter tires OR 2. AWD + all-weather OR 3. FWD + winter tires OR FWD + all-weather?
In YVR and I always buy all- weather. Our temperature swings too much for winters, + im lazy. Whistlers never been a problem
The #1 problem with the new Prius Prime PHEV in Canada is taking one home. Putting your name on a list and waiting 2 years isn't good. Toyota needs to make more.
*Bring Back Minivans!*
Minivans are king.
Jakub won't allow them☹
Bring back station wagons
Now do a Prius vs Camry comparison test.
Would I be better off getting the Prius Prime over the new 2025 Camry Hybrid? I am about getting the most MPG.
Previous generation had a spare tire too. 5th gen doesn't in the US.
The new Gen Prius looks so much better. Kind of like a small Tesla. If I lived somewhere that had all paved roads & commuted, it’d be a great vehicle
I want them to make a GR Prius with the Turbo Crown powerplant. I enjoy efficiency but I also want to scoot. The Crown just weighs too dang much.
As a 2006 then 2013 Prius driver, in Chicago...you do NEED AWD for winters, just in case......I LOVE my Prius but was planning on buying something else WITH AWD until they added that option to Prius.
Is this worth the price difference from the corolla hybrid?
Yes Corolla has 1.8 older hybrid system
Definitely. Not only is the Prius more fuel efficient, it also has a much nicer interior, better tech, and more cargo space. Prius is faster too, a lot faster
200hp/220lbft for a 3200 pound car is actually extremely powerful by todays standards
This new Prius is all over the Bay Area (CA)
139 lb-ft torque? That's almost 100 lb-ft less than the Civic Hybrid.
I love complaining about lock chime, but no issue with dual exhaust un necessarily tooooo loud, in the middle of a night.
This Prius has various easter eggs molded onto the plastic parts like a Jeep which is amusing. The lack of rear seat headroom, buttons for the radio, and the weird gauge cluster are frustrating.
Subscribed for the candian content.
Toyota hybrids don't actually use a CVT. They call it eCVT, but they don't really have a transmission in the traditional sense. They do sound and act the same with the no shifty drone, but no actual CVT transmission.
