Not to mention that drowning is probably a very painful experience. You can't breathe plus that mucky water going into your lungs. Not a great situation. They shouldn't have locked them in there and left them to die.

as a person that was trapped in Katrina with me and my family, my mom took me and my siblings to the super dome where hundreds of other families slept as well. but her and my dad quickly took us and fled from there because some of the escaped inmates were running around the city and uh... kidnapping and SA'ing women and children. so while I do feel bad for these inmates trapped, not all of them were innocent. some of them escaped and instead of trying to save themselves from drowning they decided to let intrusive thoughts take over. Katrina was a very chaotic time so there was no help from law enforcement or anything. those inmates took full advantage of the turmoil. it was especially bad if people got separated from each other. like if kids got washed downstream and ended up wandering around by themselves. it was not just the inmates either. we slept maybe a few nights in the super dome but at night when everyone would try to sleep men would wander around the stadium and snatch kids or attack women with literally hundreds of other people around. it would just be screaming for help the whole night so we gathered up what we had and our parents took us out of there quickly. my mom and stepdad kept me and my siblings literally at the hip. they gave no room for anybody to get near us and we made it out safe. God bless the victims. demons are everywhere

I read about this after Katrina happened I lived where it struck but luckily the wasn’t to affected but we let some friends stay over because there house was flooded and I read that they where evacuated after five days of being in chest high water which is crazy

People disagree when I say I feel being "...treated like an animal" is not that bad. Animals and animal shelters were given far more attention, aid and priority than this jail. One of the youngest jailed during this disaster was a 13 year old girl according to the human rights watch website.

I am guessing the storm hit before her family/anyone missing her could be contacted. Jail in America is a bit different than prison in that way. Some people only stay for short periods (one guy was in there to make up for 700$ in unpaid parking tickets), or in cases of mistaken/questioned identity people are held till they see if they have the right person.

My mom works one of the highest security mental hospitals in the US, recently a fire came through that almost burned through the location; if that occured they were ordered to leave the inmates behind. The fatality is just too big and there isn't enough time to property evacuate a massive place like a prision. But it is horrible no matter who is left in there
