What blows me away is the fact they took forever to get these poor souls the help they desperately needed but they wasted no time stomping on their rights and confiscating their firearms.
Fema was there within 48 hours we were limited in what we could do we had people shooting at us we risked our lives people were looting why should we have to be shot for trying to help

I cried for a week after this happened. I couldn’t fathom that I was watching these people going through this in this day and age. I cried for the children, separated families and people who lost their lives.
I live in New york. And i can recall myself for 7 days on the news....they kept telling people to get out because it was gonna be deadly but people didn't listen. There were evacuation buses but many people weren't allowed to bring their pets so they stayed behind. I would have gotten together with others and rented a car! New orleans is below sea level. Rescuers could barely drive through. Half of it was under water! They kept telling people this was going to happen. New orleans sinks like 2 inches per year. Soon it will be under water. It's a swamp land.

Go camping for an week somewhere where there isn't an hurricane....... Hurricanes only travel 40-100 miles inland.Also the government evacuated EVERYONE and ANYONE that wanted to leave, including MANDATORY evacuation orders . FEMA set up massive camps weeks prior, and successfully evacuated 95% of southern Louisiana. The criticism of the relief effort wasn't of FEMA, (an federal agency for disasters) but of the Federal government's response.

The government dies NOT evacuate anyone the local government issues an evacuation warning to which you use your OWN transportation and money to evacuate. There is so much wrong with your response that it would truly take writing a thesis to respond. You also apparently have no idea how far out from a hurricane the bad weather spreads. And if in fact the government had set up camps weeks before (which also doesn't happen because there is also the chance the storm could not even hit) then why would all of those people have been bused to the Superdome and what happened to these camps afterward when they ended up busing people to Houston?
Katrina... No words I visited New Orleans three years orior the people were sooooo nice to me. I felt loved more than my own family so seeing the citizens stuck, floating, displaced, and all out freaking out broke my heart once a year i watch a documentary about it

I have a cousin that was a senior. She was attending Kennedy at the time. She never got to graduate with her class.. C/O 2006 had it rough. I can only imagine
I almost went to the Super Dome but I took back roads through Slidell and Pearl River that Sunday night before, Worst rain and wind I've ever driven in. I made it to Lafayette about 2am Monday morning. Lost my house to the surge in Katrina and moved 90 miles away to Denham Springs Louisiana to get hit by a 9ft flash flood in August of 2016. Not much help for U.S. citizens after disasters.
I was there to .. I miss my home and my niece 😷😭 she died when we was in the convention center 😭😭 I miss everything.. but I'm just glad that I'm back in New Orleans
Wow, so sorry your niece was one of the 10 people who died at the convention center. How did it happen? I mean, we all know only one man was murdered outside the convention center. I'm sure your niece wasn't one of the 4 that died of neglect. Then again, the weather people only gave 5 or 6 days advance notice of the storm. Most people in FL could hitchhike to MD if given more than 120 hours heads-up...and that's 20 lead hours needed to get out of FL...How exactly, did so many of you become so incredibly stupid, not to get out of the way?

I went through hurricane Katrina myself and it seems after all these years I'm very thankful that the lord brought us out but on the flip side of this it still hurts to see what all of us went through
Im from new orleans. I was 5 when it happened. My family and i evacuated to stay with family in Mississippi during the storm. I was so little but can still vividly remember the tragedy of it all.
My memory of this horriable event was when they people was hungry, needed water and old. What ever bridge they where trying to cross to get away. The law enforcement would not let them cross and stood with guns pointed at them and told them to go back!! I could not believe this was happening in the USA. After that I trust no one in power!!
He is a hero, but feels guilty about all the ones he couldn't save, but the ones who's jobs were to save them, but did nothing, get called heroes and feel no guilt for their lack of action. Sad days, so good that people were looking after each other, because the authorities weren't.
Man I remember being 12 years old hearing about Katrina, and living in Michigan, it was hard for me to imagine. This was before social media and all that, but seeing this it’s so sad. My heart breaks for all the families
I cried watching this bc my family left New Orleans after or before my 5th birthday august 22. Hearing what happened to my home, my neighbors, my people, my school friends hurts years after learning about it. I didn’t know what was happening at the time I was only 5 and I mostly remember hanging out at the small park with my great grandmother, my siblings and other kids in the 9th ward.( my mother was surprised i remembered about it, even my great grandmother too.) Now I’m soon to be 23 this year and around my birthday i have to be reminded of that day Katrina destroyed everything, Hearing what happened still hurts because even though I didn’t experience Katrina my family did we lost everything but our lives so I’m grateful. I pray that the people that didn’t make it rest in peace.
I was nine years old when Katrina first struck Miami, FL. By the time we got our power back and turned on the news we saw the destruction the storm left. Even at a young age, it was so hard to fathom the sheer devastation and suffering of New Orleans.

@@DemonSlayer9166 It's because of the location where Katrina was most devastating that's where the black community was living. And I believe that the government knew if those levees broke that it would flood that community... Just my opinion
My wife and I just visited in February of 2021. The lower 9th Ward still has streets that look like bombs went off. Several vacant lots where people didn't even try to rebuild. Can't say as I blame them because the government made it hard for them to get any of the relief money, but when they did, shady contractors took advantage of them. They took their money with the promise of rebuilding and used tainted materials that had to be torn out and either redone or just left undone.
Many areas of New Orleans aren’t rebuilt .. many homes still have the markings on them from when the national guard would go in to see if ppl was there .. I was there but thank god we left within hours before we couldn’t
I’ve visited Louisiana last year doing door-to-door sales and got a chance to talk to people about this. it was one of the greatest experiences of my life talking with Louisiana residents. The culture some great people 🙏🏻

When Katrina happened i was stabbed in the heart to see so many suffering and no help in sight. I realized right then that the government don't care about us. They more concerned with foreign countries than our own. I started to teach myself survival skills to be able to overcome any obstacle thrown at me. So Katrina definitely had an impact on my life even though I was watching thru a t.v screen.
The US didn't have a proper plan for the people of Louisanna when the levees broke.🙏🏾 I remember hearing 10 years plus later they are still recovering and many people are still displaced...

Wow , I was in the 2nd grade when the hurricane hit. My mom was working for the Salvation Army at that time. She went to work a day after the storm and went down to homestead with her job to help out. When she came home she explained what she saw but you’ll never it until you visually see it yourself. funny how fema responded with thousands of unneeded temp housing trailers, but not a single motherfucking portable toilet at superdome, our govt at its' finest moment
just because that happened to your neice's neighbors doesn't mean the trailers mostly went to blacks. and in all honesty, it was mostly majority black neighborhoods that were hit the hardest.
I was in one of the worst fires in California, FEMA did not show themselves until President declared it state emergency. So for us it was awhile too before we received any help. Not sure what FEMA's rules are with all of that but they most certainly need to do a better job protecting the people.
My sister worked for fema during Katrina and I just remember her come home one day in tears and explaining the calls she had be she felt bad she couldn't help. My mom rip worked for agriculture in DC and she went to new Orleans and said she remembers swing coffins just floating down the street
I looted for Baby milk, Pampers. can goods and pads for my wife. I Remembered leaving out of the dark and wet store when I realized I had a hand full of dog jerky treats instead of beef jerky. True story I swear on my life. I had to geaux back in.

I was in jail on tulane and board and the 1st day of the storm the COs just pass out a slice of cheese and a slice of ham and we didnt see them nomore until 2 weeks after the storm the army people finally came got us!!!

This is one of the worst Hurricanes I've ever seen in my lifetime. I remember me and mother cried about this... and then to hear the stories from some friends I met in school and then the things I ran into the things I saw in school with the kids being rejected here in Fort Worth... yeah... this is some craziness.. and the country still hasn't learned and Harvey was another example... still brings tears to my eyes.
Thank you for uploading this, I remember Mr Alexander from the documentary "When the Levees Broke". Very powerful and informative. Hard to imagine, forget having to live in the nightmare.
In my mind I picture a world of no disasters. No innocent people killed. No mass shootings. But, the sad reality is all of these things are real and we need to be aware of them. Katrina was very sad and even though I was not there I still cried when my teacher told us that she was there. She has been through 28 hurricanes so far. Bad, but good that she survived because she is a great teacher. God bless America.

Why the absolute f**k did they search people coming to the dome for safety. They werent criminals, the majority were people living in poverty that had no where to go and no transportation to go anywhere. Every detail i learn about katrina angers me and should still be a subject of debate years later. The government officials involved should be in jail for how they handled this disaster.
Dead bodies and deep water, that's what I remembered most. I was in the third grade. We were left to die. The bloodshed from the delayed relief effort is Mr. Bush's hands.
I remember seeing so much of this tragedy unfold on television and feeling so helpless and crying because I couldn't help. I especially remember the older man whose wife floated away from him and he was heartbroken and also crying.The whole thing was just too much. ETA: I don't know what made me think back to this, but I'm glad it did. His wife didn't 'float away' from him; she was violently pulled away by raging flood waters. It was insanely tragic!

I remember watching the news, and the National Guard not let in Trucks filled with water and food. I was crying and screaming at the screen. This was handled so wrong. I hope the National Guard men will rethink their oath to the Constitution, and the American People. This was criminal. I am so sorry for all those that lost so much, and suffered. Many areas of New Orleans aren’t rebuilt .. many homes still have the markings on them from when the national guard would go in to see if ppl was there .. I was there but thank god we left within hours before we couldn’t
I’ve visited Louisiana last year doing door-to-door sales and got a chance to talk to people about this. it was one of the greatest experiences of my life talking with Louisiana residents. The culture some great people 🙏🏻

When Katrina happened i was stabbed in the heart to see so many suffering and no help in sight. I realized right then that the government don't care about us. They more concerned with foreign countries than our own. I started to teach myself survival skills to be able to overcome any obstacle thrown at me. So Katrina definitely had an impact on my life even though I was watching thru a t.v screen.
The US didn't have a proper plan for the people of Louisanna when the levees broke.🙏🏾 I remember hearing 10 years plus later they are still recovering and many people are still displaced...

Wow , I was in the 2nd grade when the hurricane hit. My mom was working for the Salvation Army at that time. She went to work a day after the storm and went down to homestead with her job to help out. When she came home she explained what she saw but you’ll never it until you visually see it yourself. I was in one of the worst fires in California, FEMA did not show themselves until President declared it state emergency. So for us it was awhile too before we received any help. Not sure what FEMA's rules are with all of that but they most certainly need to do a better job protecting the people.
My sister worked for fema during Katrina and I just remember her come home one day in tears and explaining the calls she had be she felt bad she couldn't help. My mom rip worked for agriculture in DC and she went to new Orleans and said she remembers swing coffins just floating down the street
I looted for Baby milk, Pampers. can goods and pads for my wife. I Remembered leaving out of the dark and wet store when I realized I had a hand full of dog jerky treats instead of beef jerky. True story I swear on my life. I had to geaux back in.

I was in jail on tulane and board and the 1st day of the storm the COs just pass out a slice of cheese and a slice of ham and we didnt see them nomore until 2 weeks after the storm the army people finally came got us!!!
No person should be trapped. You dont get sentenced to death, which is what happened when those COs left you

This is one of the worst Hurricanes I've ever seen in my lifetime. I remember me and mother cried about this... and then to hear the stories from some friends I met in school and then the things I ran into the things I saw in school with the kids being rejected here in Fort Worth... yeah... this is some craziness.. and the country still hasn't learned and Harvey was another example... still brings tears to my eyes.
Life is totally different after the loss of a loved one. 💟

In my mind I picture a world of no disasters. No innocent people killed. No mass shootings. But, the sad reality is all of these things are real and we need to be aware of them. Katrina was very sad and even though I was not there I still cried when my teacher told us that she was there. She has been through 28 hurricanes so far. Bad, but good that she survived because she is a great teacher. God bless America.

Why the absolute f**k did they search people coming to the dome for safety. They werent criminals, the majority were people living in poverty that had no where to go and no transportation to go anywhere. Every detail i learn about katrina angers me and should still be a subject of debate years later. The government officials involved should be in jail for how they handled this disaster.

I remember seeing so much of this tragedy unfold on television and feeling so helpless and crying because I couldn't help. I especially remember the older man whose wife floated away from him and he was heartbroken and also crying.The whole thing was just too much. ETA: I don't know what made me think back to this, but I'm glad it did. His wife didn't 'float away' from him; she was violently pulled away by raging flood waters. It was insanely tragic!

I remember watching the news, and the National Guard not let in Trucks filled with water and food. I was crying and screaming at the screen. This was handled so wrong. I hope the National Guard men will rethink their oath to the Constitution, and the American People. This was criminal. I am so sorry for all those that lost so much, and suffered. Prayers for healing.
