Wow! Some good information for new succulent lovers. I have a mother plant with puppies that seems to double its growth every 3 days or so... but it's getting taller, not compact. Ihave some light in the area the plant sits as it's near a filtered, south facing window. I guess I need to find out if it's suppose to be a tall one or a small one or even a rosette. I really don't know because I'm TOTALLY new to succulents all together.
some succulents grow taller but growth in 3 days doesn’t seems right .....it’s sounds more like stretching ...any idea what variety it is ...probably that can help or if possible you can share a pic through Facebook or insta 😊

Because that's what the person selling the plants said to do! But, (if I don't kill it) I will definantley listen to your tips about propagation! Tysm!😊😊😊😊
do let me if the seller grows his own succulents or is a reseller..many resellers have poor knowledge and will just randomly tell things or advice ..if possible do share a image of the succulent on my instagram will be happy to advice instagram.com/_lushgardener_/

Hello, Will succulent stems also propagate in the same manner? I mean, will the stems also root using all of it’s internal nutrients and not really need soil until it has all roots? Also I want to say thank you for this video. Very very well explained! I love how informative you are and you explain why it is important and how it all works. Makes me excited to keep planting, thank you! Will definitely subscribe for more ❤
yes same but ensure before you do a stem cutting the succulent well hydrated and all the leaves are plump ...till the time the stem puts any new roots the succulent will use that same water from the leaves
best is during growing period….avoid monsoon season….other than that winter is the best time as most succulents are in growing period except Echeveria….and temperatures are also cooler

So just to be clear… once you see roots, go ahead and put IN soil? In bright light? I have grow lights, I had all the leaves on top of soil under grow lights and I would lightly mist the leaves and soil, is that incorrect??
everything is good .just avoid the misting..some say it works some say it’s doesn’t ..it didn’t work for me ..motherleaf used to rot even before the pups showed up ..ever since I stopped misting things have been great 😊 dont keep them to close to the lights when they are tiny
very informative! this is awesome thank you! i have a question, so you mentioned the proper watering for the pups- what about while I'm still just waiting for the roots (after callousing)? will i not water until there are roots or do i moisten the soil a bit?
No don’t water the soil it has to be dry ....the roots are produced with the water or moisture from inside the leaf that’s why place the leaf away from direct sun otherwise it will dehydrate the mother leaf .....by adding moisture to the soil there is a chance the leaf might turn transparent and yellow
@@LushGardener thank you for that added info! and for explaining why it is so.. great! i almost did water/spray on mine because all the other tutorials says so :)
I also have a leaf that dropped naturally and has developed pups(brought it from a friend's home) But, after I placed it in a soil tray, it hasn't developed roots yet? The mother leaf hasn't withered either and the pups are still the same size they were a month ago. Does every leaf grow a root?
Hello Sir, A good and informative video once again. I wanted to know when is the right time to separate the mother leaf from the pups? Does it happen automatically? I tried to separate one of my pups and it ended in a failure.
yes sir if the leaf is drying naturally over time it will automatically detach or if it does a slight touch will detach it never put force then it will damage the pup if u feel the dried mother leaf is very stiff and unable to come off easily just let it stay for some more time …. but if the mother leaf is rotting then u will have to separate it asap
Hello sir, i have a greptoveria ghost and i took some leaves to propagate... They sucsseded and grew pups but when i watered them their roots rotted and the mother leaves rotted as well.. i have other leaves that grew pups also but i didnt water.. they seem healthy and the mother leaves look good... Is it ok to leave them not watered till the mother leaves fully consumed ? Or what should i do?
don't water too much just add maybe a tablespoon of water in the roots ..maybe due to the environment that could happen ...the pups also take water from the mother leaf ..but at times the roots may dry so need to water little ..did you drop on the mother leaf by any chance ?
@@LushGardenerthank you sir for taking the time to help me. do you mean drop water on the leaf ? yes.. sometimes water did got on the part connecting the leaf and the pup.. when i first did it.. i used to burry the leaf neck in the sand a little and because of that water did get on that part of the leaf
Thanks for this video! All my succulents are indoors. If I keep them outside but in the shade will they thrive? (Max daytime temp these days is about 85F) I have a stretched out pup that is clearly not getting enough light.
85F should be good most of them can tolerate 1-2 degrees more or less …..if you can provide them with direct morning sunlight will be great …..but partial shade or bright indirect light would also work 😊…..but if you’re planning to put them out for direct sunlight ensure it’s a gradual introduction to sun to ensure they are acclimated P.s For pups I would recommend indirect bright light only
My leave grew only three roots and they have all shriveled. But the pup has been growing and now the mother leaf is mostly also shriveled as well. What do I do? There is a small pup with no root. Please give me some tips. Thanks!
@@LushGardenerI misted it lightly because I was worried I would cause rot. I lived in an area that entered a dry season when I picked up the leaf. Should I water the pup now?
yes when you see roots water..this happened due to lack of water the fragile roots hence dried up..misting wont help you need to do a proper water wait lemme sharing the playlist step by step it will help you
@@bearded-cat yes absolutely misting mother succulents or the propagation leaves can be quite risky and dangerous….it’s not that they will die immediately but you never know one bad day and boom succulents will start collapsing one by one like pack of cards 🤣
My leaf has developed 1"roots but it hasn't grown a pup yet. I forgot about the leaf and it callused for 10 days however the root growth was instant. It's been 20 days after I placed it in soil. Is it too early to expect a pup? This is my first attempt with a leaf propagation so I was really excited about the roots but now it hasn't grown longer. Is it problematic to move the leaf because I keep touching and moving them😬

Thanks for your video... very informative as always but have one request to you that please make a complete video on leaf propagation (leaf to a full plant)...
sougata roy mam I have a complete video on leaf propagation alone 😊 from start to finish but yea the pups isn’t grow full coz it will take at least one to one n half year......but good suggestion I will make something like that soon
the same process take the mature leaf from below ensure the mother plants is hydrated…then take a clean cut leaf it’s the same process but both the varieties that you mentioned are very delicate …I haven’t propagated both of those varieties as I dont have them in my collection …as they both are Echeverias they should prop via leaves
@@LushGardener thanks. I actually bought them to add to my collection and want multiply them because I want a lot 😁😅😅I am a subscriber, get all your notifications and have been following you for a long time. Your are doing great and keep up the good work 🤗🤗🙏🏻🙏🏻
Is is normal for leaves callousing to wilt a little? I set out some echeveria leaves today in the sun but I came back and they were wilted is there anything I can do? Did I give them too much sun?
oh no never keep them in sun to callus it will either give sunburn to the leaf or it will dehydrate the leaf has to be kept in shade till they root after which indirect sunlight Anyways now place them in shade. and just hope they root don’t give up all the best
What do you mean when you say at 3:34 when you see roots move it to bright light? I’m a new gardener so I don’t quite know the difference between bright light, and bright indirect light... would it not be in direct sunlight? I’m confused please help 😅

Started propagating this spring from leaves.... Mostly all the leaves developed pup but they are not developing roots.....eventually mother leaf died and pups not able to survive with no roots....please suggest me what to do?

Hello, nice channel. I both liked and am a subscriber. Your videos are most informative. I would like to ask about jade and echeveria. Additionally, I have a Graptopetalum (Ghost plant) that is VERY prolific using the leaf method. I have close to 100% success rate! The echeveria and jade are a bit stubborn, however, and I have used the same method. I guess I just need to be patient and wait a while longer. I also used rooting hormone on all of them. We're only about 2 weeks into this and nothing from either the jade or echeveria. I see what may be the beginning of a root bud from one of the jade leaves. What do you think? Wait a while longer? Again, great video.
hello Dale nice to hear about your propagations success with graptopelaum …that they are doing well yea graptopetalum and graptoveria are very quick …. talking about jade yes they are slightly slow as u said you’re two weeks in it’s too early for them…. mine took around a month and half for the jade cutting and leaf to show growth so have to wait I can totally understand the excitement haha … regarding Echeveria again depending on the varieties plus as we are entering the winter’s Echeveria tends to go dormant however nothing to worry about propagation it will still work but yes the wait will be much longer compared to propagating them in summer …. now all you have to do is wait 😊 will eagerly wait to hear from you once you see new signs of growth wishing you all the luck 🍀

@@LushGardener ok. I will send one via IG... I'm under the same name on there. You may be right because it's even taller than it was 3 days ago. 🤷♀️🤔

So uh, I got a succulent just 2 days ago, and it's still pretty tiny, but uh, the person said to water the succulent (the mother plant, which is still small) 1 time every three days, is that what I'm supposed to do? Because that's what the person selling the plants said to do! But, (if I don't kill it) I will definantley listen to your tips about propagation! Tysm!😊😊😊😊
do let me if the seller grows his own succulents or is a reseller..many resellers have poor knowledge and will just randomly tell things or advice ..if possible do share a image of the succulent on my instagram will be happy to advice

Curious if putting a rooting hormone on after callouses form would help, OR would that not be needed until later?
not needed at all …I have never used commercial rooting hormone…but yes at times I have used cinnamon powder which works as natural rooting hormone
Hello,
Will succulent stems also propagate in the same manner? I mean, will the stems also root using all of it’s internal nutrients and not really need soil until it has all roots?
Also I want to say thank you for this video. Very very well explained! I love how informative you are and you explain why it is important and how it all works. Makes me excited to keep planting, thank you! Will definitely subscribe for more ❤
yes same but ensure before you do a stem cutting the succulent well hydrated and all the leaves are plump ...till the time the stem puts any new roots the succulent will use that same water from the leaves
Great video man ! Very simple yet informative, brilliant English.

Thanks for sharing!...what is the right time to propogate succulents and cutting if they are growing enlongated
best is during growing period….avoid monsoon season….other than that winter is the best time as most succulents are in growing period except Echeveria….and temperatures are also cooler

So just to be clear… once you see roots, go ahead and put IN soil? In bright light? I have grow lights, I had all the leaves on top of soil under grow lights and I would lightly mist the leaves and soil, is that incorrect??
everything is good .just avoid the misting..some say it works some say it’s doesn’t ..it didn’t work for me ..motherleaf used to rot even before the pups showed up ..ever since I stopped misting things have been great 😊
dont keep them to close to the lights when they are tiny
Awesome tutorial ! Thank you ! 🙏🙏

Veryyy intelligentlyy explained.....
thank you so much for watching ☺️
very informative! this is awesome thank you!
i have a question, so you mentioned the proper watering for the pups- what about while I'm still just waiting for the roots (after callousing)? will i not water until there are roots or do i moisten the soil a bit?
No don’t water the soil it has to be dry ....the roots are produced with the water or moisture from inside the leaf that’s why place the leaf away from direct sun otherwise it will dehydrate the mother leaf .....by adding moisture to the soil there is a chance the leaf might turn transparent and yellow
@@LushGardener thank you for that added info! and for explaining why it is so..
great! i almost did water/spray on mine because all the other tutorials says so :)
Can we apply rooting hormone to the stem cuttings and leaf propagation??
it's not needed ..it will happen naturally ..however if you want to ...apply some cinnamon powder don't use commercial rooting hormones
If my leaf produced a baby and the mother leaf fell off, but baby has no roots. Do I keep watering? Or not water until it has roots?
no water until roots appear
@@LushGardener thank you!!!🙏
I also have a leaf that dropped naturally and has developed pups(brought it from a friend's home) But, after I placed it in a soil tray, it hasn't developed roots yet? The mother leaf hasn't withered either and the pups are still the same size they were a month ago. Does every leaf grow a root?
Loved the video, learnt a lot from it. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Hello Sir,
A good and informative video once again.
New friend here, very inforative video, thanks for the info🤗

85F should be good most of them can tolerate 1-2 degrees more or less …..if you can provide them with direct morning sunlight will be great …..but partial shade or bright indirect light would also work 😊…..but if you’re planning to put them out for direct sunlight ensure it’s a gradual introduction to sun to ensure they are acclimated
P.s For pups I would recommend indirect bright light only
I enjoyed your helpful video
thank you so much for watching 😊
My leave grew only three roots and they have all shriveled. But the pup has been growing and now the mother leaf is mostly also shriveled as well. What do I do? There is a small pup with no root. Please give me some tips. Thanks!
don't do anything let it be on the soil ..there will be new roots ...idid you water when you seen roots ?
@@LushGardenerI misted it lightly because I was worried I would cause rot. I lived in an area that entered a dry season when I picked up the leaf. Should I water the pup now?
yes when you see roots water..this happened due to lack of water the fragile roots hence dried up..misting wont help you need to do a proper water wait lemme sharing the playlist step by step it will help you
check this th-cam.com/play/PLPUGXyrgYAEaUrDZq0jDwB5-CfWCPKXL1.html&si=pJasOq36P1gygUrE
don't water if there are no roots ..if you see one small tiny one which may happens soon then moisten the soil
I dont have a mister or a spray bottle, how do I water them? BTW loved the video💚
don’t worry just use any plastic bottle punch a hole in the cap that’s it and water the soil
@@LushGardener thank you so much 😄 🌱💚
You don't need mister or spray bottle at all when it comes to succulent. Spraying succulents is bad as it causes burns

Hi. How do I propagate a compton carousel? I also want to propagate an echeveria rainbow.
the same process take the mature leaf from below ensure the mother plants is hydrated…then take a clean cut leaf it’s the same process but both the varieties that you mentioned are very delicate …I haven’t propagated both of those varieties as I dont have them in my collection …as they both are Echeverias they should prop via leaves

Did I give them too much sun?
oh no never keep them in sun to callus it will either give sunburn to the leaf or it will dehydrate the leaf has to be kept in shade till they root after which indirect sunlight
Anyways now place them in shade. and just hope they root don’t give up
all the best
This is amazingly informative. 👏🏽 thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Sir is it right even the leaf propagates already look dead already the pups can still pop up in dead looking leaf? Thanks
no sir dead leaf will not give pup even if you get success by 1 percent the pup will not survive later as it will be very weak 😟

What do you mean when you say at 3:34 when you see roots move it to bright light? I’m a new gardener so I don’t quite know the difference between bright light, and bright indirect light... would it not be in direct sunlight? I’m confused please help 😅

Is that an echeveria bluebird you're filming there?
Yes your right it’s echeveria blue bird ☺️
Again, great video.
hello Dale nice to hear about your propagations success with graptopelaum …that they are doing well yea graptopetalum and graptoveria are very quick …. talking about jade yes they are slightly slow as u said you’re two weeks in it’s too early for
them…. mine took around a month and half for the jade cutting and leaf to show growth so have to wait I can totally understand the excitement haha … regarding Echeveria again depending on the varieties plus as we are entering the winter’s Echeveria tends to go dormant however nothing to worry about propagation it will still work but yes the wait will be much longer compared to propagating them in summer …. now all you have to do is wait 😊
will eagerly wait to hear from you once you see new signs of growth wishing you all the luck 🍀

The mother leaf still looks good so I hope there still might be hope, do you know if there's any way to force it to grow roots? Thank you! :D

completely no only the roots you can bury if you want to …if you bury the entire mother leaf it will rot quick and that rot might spread to the pup as well it’s risky 🥺
