Reminds me that in 2018 I got perma banned for something my sister did on her own account (same email was used to make both accounts) - in 2020 I appealed and got unbanned, and then 2 months ago, without ANY further infractions, they not only REBANNED the account, but DELETED it as well. @@Challenger10K I left Scratch entirely (partially b/c it was just my time to move on) b/c the moderation sucks! It's no longer the platform of creativity that I grew up with. It's just a breeding ground of brainrot and poor moderation. Why do you think I'm telling my brothers to use PenguinMod or Gandi IDE? Why do you think I'm developing games in Unity now?
once i got one of my projects taken down because it was exposing a very bad person and they reported it.. it took like 4 months for their account to to get banned
scratch would never do anything to griffpatch, i don't want him getting banned or anything but if scratch even tried there would be a massive outrage far bigger than anything we have seen before
I’ve been wanting to make an undertale-style rpg for a while, but I realized that it would never go anywhere if I used scratch. It’s very limiting and some kid would probably say it was “too scary” and get me banned. To gamemaker studio 2 I go!
the moderation legit just detects if a post includes a word or not, it's SO bad was being verbose and saying "I am going to make a project of CHAOS, a game of ENTROPY, a world of TRUE DISCORD" (discord is a synonym of chaos fyi, i was not thinking of the social media app when typing that)
Someone targeted my little brother because they didn't like him, and it worked, he got perma banned, then he protested that it was unfair, IP banned. So now he can't make an account because he said the moderation sucked. Sounds like power abuse, ngl. Oh, I also got a warning for an inappropriate comment, when I said the person was a power abuser in is comments. Don't worry, they got banned too. Honestly, Scratch should stop acting like the children on Roblox when they lose a game. 💀 I even emailed them if they could make a moderation system similar to Roblox, and they said to contact them at their email. I don't think they know this, but that's their email.. oh, also here's the email. "Hello, scratch team. It seems you have a banning system, this is not smart. At all. There are many things this can do to ruin your game, and if you ban new accounts, even worse. 1) People can target other people If someone doesn't like one person, they can constantly check to see if the projects are fine or not, and then spam report them with like 20 accounts if they're not. They can easily get banned. My advice? If you see similar reports on the exact same day, and a lot of them, it's probably a raiding report. A raiding report is when someone and their friends and discord members gang up on one account. You might think "what?", well, some adults that are petty and self entitled use scratch too. Maybe if you thought ahead, then you would've seen this coming. 2) People can get other people banned to make fun of them without getting banned Well, if you didn't know, most systems, probably like yours, don't count to harassment if the user is banned, which is awful. Someone can do the same thing as mentioned (1, if you didn't read and are just trying to speed through this, and you're not going to take it seriously, like Roblox), this is devastating, while they can do nothing until the ban is lifted. Try to make sure every user (including banned users), are included in reporting, and if their victims, actually do something about it for once. 3) Permanent bans If this was not enough for your flaws in your report system, you did a permanent ban on one user that thought that your system was unfair. Excuse me? Did someone abuse their power? Permanent bans should only be for something very serious or repeated offences, 3-6 depending on the offence. There should also be warnings, telling you exactly what you did, showing you what the project did wrong, and what would happen the next time you do it. I'm sure if you do this formatting, some players might actually take you seriously, instead of being memed on. 4) Be a little selfish What? Well, when something has a copyright claim in a game, instead of addressing it to developers, some games just sue the whole game. Copyright report - only happens when a very popular game (Roblox, among us, etc.), is directly ripped off, then they get a warning, then a ban for 3 days, 7 day ban, then a perma ban, if the offense is repeated. 5) Stop bullies No matter the circumstance, whether it's a rich person, a person threatening the game if they don't take down a single project, BAN THEM. Most of them are actually kids pretending to have power and using chat CPT to check their work so it looks like it was made by a professional. Don't get me started on impersonators. If someone directly copies a famous person, and then pretends to be them and harrasses other people, perma ban them, no mercy. Then send out a mass inbox saying, "Dear {user}, We have found an impersonator named (insert the impersonators name), copying (insert the person they impersonated), please note that whatever they did or said was not the real youtuber. Thank you, The Scratch Team." 6) Not everyones a kid, but some are Okay, so how do we tell kids or adults apart? Well, facebook surprisingly has you covered. They use an AI system to tell data from liking a post, similarly, it would be able to tell only if the user was a kid or not depending on; Favorites (not favoring their own project, or else the algorithm would get confused.) Stars (same rule applies to stars as favorites.) Remixes (and what they do to it to make it "their own") Their projects Groups they're in groups they've created comments, and replies to comments That's it. 7) Conclusion This could make scratch so much better, and I get it, rage keeps people on the internet longer, but basically, don't be like Twitter, or Facebook (minus the algorithm I just described), as in their pieces of garbage that someone decided to make for fun and then got used for a soulless profit farm. Also, no, I'm never calling Twitter by its new name. We can all agree it's stupid. -----Really hoping that you try to make this site better------------------------ -----Anonymous" "They then, after I told them it was their email, said two different things Hello, Thanks for reaching out to Scratch. It looks like you've emailed us directly. We ask that you visit our Contact Us page (scratch.mit.edu/contact-us/). On this page, you can find helpful links and resources. I mean, every website will need automated systems. 3.7 million new videos are uploaded every single day on youtube, and you can't expect people to review every one of those. Scratch and youtube need automated systems, the only difference is that one is a megacompany owned by google, and the other is made by a couple MIT students.
I'm aware of that. The problem is how strict the automated systems are if they are implemented correctly it is a great thing. When they are so strict that they regularly give out false bans however then there is a big problem
@@Challenger10K true, tho I will say that its bad, and i agree on you with that, they are definetly doing way better that what you would expect of 2 random people.

W video. I have beef with the moderation system myself, as I got banned for calling out a blatant art thief. I also nearly got banned for calling out a groomer. edit: i do not want this hearted anymore. Edit 2: i do not like this comment anymore.
i got a warning for making a project documenting evidence against a content thief that got on the front page by stealing a game then he made 4 alt accounts and continued before we stopped him
another time i got a timeout from commenting because i said that the mechanics of a game were bad for a featured game (you went straight into spikes when entering lvl 2) then a ton of people said i was bad and that rage games are supposed to have bad design?
Great video :D A ton of my projects have been mass-reported (They're just simple games and platformers and stuff like that) and when the St first review them they almost always say they agree that it's innapropriate, I have to email them, wait a few weeks and then they put it back up, it's like they don't even review them fully until they're called out for it by email. It's like they have selective moderation too, some projects get taken down, others are left there. I tried making a merch thing and it got taken down less than an hour after release, and yet I've seen people who have been selling merch through scratch for years and the St just leave them alone, idk it just feels weird
@@Challenger10K Lol, they’re not all platformers, but yeah, my best project so far (My Roblox Game) got taken down 6 times, despite not breaking any guidelines, and yet my worst games (My Platformer and Minecraft game) havent been taken down at all and are my most popular, it’s annoying. Idk if it’s the mass reporters or the scratch team themselves, but it seems like they leave really bad games alone, and target better ones (my games aren’t good, but I’m using it as a comparison because my best games are the ones they decided to take down and it seems like that’s a common trend on scratch)
I uploaded a project with the audio of the Star Spangled Banner (I am American). The moderation team took it down deeming copyright infringement. The star spangled banner is in the Public Domain.
At this point, I dont even care about the comments or remixes anymore on scratch, and that's when it hit me, scratch just wants silence, I called this minor out for accusing me of random things and making people false flag me, and as you expected, when I call em out the moderation strikes me instead, so now I just don't really care and things have gotten much more quiet now Moral of this is really just, you can't really win on scratch
I got permabanned once because of sharing a DropBox link, in which I wanted to share something to my friend which it wouldn't be possible on Scratch. Luckily I am back on track, but yeah a file dump would be nice to add next time
i think if they want to go a way to stop people going on sketchy sites they should spend lots of time to whitelist lots of safe sites and add a way for people to share links even if its not whitelisted maybe make them so you have to copy and paste for example
I remember I got banned a few years ago on Scratch, for a fair reason (young me thought it was a good idea to put personal information in my username). The things that surprised me is 1, how long it took for them to notice, bearing in mind I had been featured 3 times on that account before they noticed, and 2, how long it took for them to reply. And for the record with point 2: they haven’t replied. It’s been a good few years, and they haven’t replied to any of the (at least) 3 appeals I sent. (Edit: fixed grammar lol)
I remember clicking onto a friend's profile and seeing that the newest comment was from another friend of theirs who said that their main account was deleted because it had "creamsicle" in the name-
This reminds me; I made four separate Scratch accounts because I kept getting banned; all for good reasons. First one, I was spamming in the forums because I didn't have the ability to read threads at the time and I was having too much fun with the forums' markdown at the time, second one someone got mad at me for remixing their project and threatened to flag me over it, I of course retaliated and threatened to flag all of their projects. Third one they banned because they saw I was circumventing another ban, and now I made my fourth one. Amazingly enough, it never gotten banned after having it for nearly 12 years. Seeing how their moderation system is "controversial" is news to me because to me, it's nowhere near as bad as something like moderation on Roblox, TH-cam, Twitter, and many other places out there. I was a bastard child back then, I'll say that much, and all of those bans that I've recieved are... more or less warranted.
that second one is not a good reason to be banned. by uploading a project you give permission to all scratchers to remix it regarding they provide credit
Also can you mention that the scratch team in perticular has been attacking the history and grand strategy community in another video about this topic if you make one?
Around a year and a month ago someone randomly impersonated me so me and associates made projects against them, but they all got taken down due to "online bullying" tho ig that person got deleted so its not the worst Around a year and a half ago i got muted for 12 hours due to sending an imgbb link of a zoom chat, and then for 14 hours the next day because i said (i belive discord? Idk) Yet you wanna know whats funny? 2 and a half years ago, i made a fake "hate account" against me self and ofc, it got banned. But, as soon as i messaged them, "Im just pretending to be a hater to see how my followers react" it got unbanned immediately. One time someone made a ship account between my (used to be) foster brother and i, it didnt get banned. Rather, the person ended up either deleting it or leaving (I genuinely dont remember) Bunch of hate comments calling me fatherless for remixing someone's project that had jellybean in it? NOTHING WAS DONE! Oh but yes, take down my art contest entry because apparently... and i QUOTE.. I "Didnt change enough about the project" Sorry i needed to rant

That's why I quit scratch a year ago or something BTW the same thing happened to me, I said discord too, and then I made a video laughing at scratch mods bc they muted me for saying discord.
@Challenger10K no, scratch doesn't allow discord due to multiple different reasons. 1) it's for older audiences 2) private messaging [you would be surprised at how angry they are at this stuff. They don't even allow live chat projects, but that kinda makes sense due to the difficulty of moderation that comes with it.] 3) Thing about it, not much filters on direct messages. Images of you know what can get shared around, and not to mention the swears [oh unholy swears]
How tf did I get banned for a channel shutting down? WTF? EDIT: it was qubo, if u wanna search it up.. it’s the first option I think but just put channel afterwards and I put blood cause it showed gore in the video
I got IP banned for 3 days last July and never gave me a reason why. Not even I know how, but I think I got the IP ban cuz of quote unquote, “spamming” when I LITERALLY WASN’T. Just like Viiperrr’s ban. But the ban was 3 days and now I haven’t been banned again since. I got scared from it tho. SCRATCH TEAM NEEDS TO FIX THEIR MODERATION THIS IS NOT OKAY
@@Challenger10KOh and btw, my brother was the one who checked overnight if I had still been banned and I wasn’t, then due to being scared from it, I for some reason removed all 92 of my shared projects. I have only been banned once and now I make awesome projects.
There was a guy on scratch named Mickeymouse memes, or something like that, who apparently had 5 gfs and was exposed for being racist, homophobic and a "drake EDP" guy. Scratch did nothing, but the community cancelling him got him off the platform. the heck?!
why dont they just make it so you can make projects for certain ages like roblox??? like if you enter your account as a 5 year old, you cant see a game thats 13+ ITS SO EASY
they could also make it have a code email thing cuz i dont think little kids are gonna know what a code verification is. and in order to redeem the code the parent would have to enter the child's real age.
ive been reading the comments and i can not state this part in the cgs enough 'Please use the "Report” button rather than engaging in fights, spreading rumors about other people’s behavior, or otherwise responding to any inappropriate content.'
I had lost several hours of progress into a game because someone used my email to make an account and they had gotten that account banned, which led to both accounts getting banned. One time my About Me was deleted because I included my youtube link in it, like is that even a link that destroys your computer?
i guess lol
Someone targeted my little brother because they didn't like him, and it worked, he got perma banned, then he protested that it was unfair, IP banned. So now he can't make an account because he said the moderation sucked. Sounds like power abuse, ngl.
Oh, I also got a warning for an inappropriate comment, when I said the person was a power abuser in is comments. Don't worry, they got banned too. Honestly, Scratch should stop acting like the children on Roblox when they lose a game. 💀
I even emailed them if they could make a moderation system similar to Roblox, and they said to contact them at their email. I don't think they know this, but that's their email.. oh, also here's the email.
"Hello, scratch team.
It seems you have a banning system, this is not smart. At all. There are many things this can do to ruin your game, and if you ban new accounts, even worse.
1) People can target other people
If someone doesn't like one person, they can constantly check to see if the projects are fine or not, and then spam report them with like 20 accounts if they're not.
2) People can get other people banned to make fun of them without getting banned
Well, if you didn't know, most systems, probably like yours, don't count to harassment if the user is banned, which is awful.
3) Permanent bans
If this was not enough for your flaws in your report system, you did a permanent ban on one user that thought that your system was unfair.
4) Be a little selfish
What? Well, when something has a copyright claim in a game, instead of addressing it to developers, some games just sue the whole game.
Copyright report - only happens when a very popular game (Roblox, among us, etc.), is directly ripped off, then they get a warning, then a ban for 3 days, 7 day ban, then a perma ban, if the offense is repeated.
5) Stop bullies
No matter the circumstance, whether it's a rich person, a person threatening the game if they don't take down a single project, BAN THEM. Most of them are actually kids pretending to have power and using chat CPT to check their work so it looks like it was made by a professional. Don't get me started on impersonators. If someone directly copies a famous person, and then pretends to be them and harrasses other people, perma ban them, no mercy. Then send out a mass inbox saying,
"Dear {user},
We have found an impersonator named (insert the impersonators name), copying (insert the person they impersonated), please note that whatever they did or said was not the real youtuber.
Thank you, The Scratch Team."
6) Not everyones a kid, but some are
Okay, so how do we tell kids or adults apart? Well, facebook surprisingly has you covered. They use an AI system to tell data from liking a post, similarly, it would be able to tell only if the user was a kid or not depending on;
Favorites (not favoring their own project, or else the algorithm would get confused.)
Stars (same rule applies to stars as favorites.)
Remixes (and what they do to it to make it "their own")
Their projects
Groups they're in
groups they've created
comments, and replies to comments
That's it.
7) Conclusion
This could make scratch so much better, and I get it, rage keeps people on the internet longer, but basically, don't be like Twitter, or Facebook (minus the algorithm I just described), as in their pieces of garbage that someone decided to make for fun and then got used for a soulless profit farm. Also, no, I'm never calling Twitter by its new name. We can all agree it's stupid.
-----Really hoping that you try to make this site better------------------------

SCRATCH TEAM NEEDS TO FIX THEIR MODERATION THIS IS NOT OKAY
automated systems dont know what spamming is
@@Challenger10K fr scratch is turning their moderation into Roblox which I never was banned from even after like 5 years.
@@Challenger10KOh and btw, my brother was the one who checked overnight if I had still been banned and I wasn’t, then due to being scared from it, I for some reason removed all 92 of my shared projects. I have only been banned once and now I make awesome projects.
Gonna give em credit though,it's really hard to make a robot more stupid that youtubes robot

There was a guy on scratch named Mickeymouse memes, or something like that, who apparently had 5 gfs and was exposed for being racist, homophobic and a "drake EDP" guy. Scratch did nothing, but the community cancelling him got him off the platform. the heck?!
thats because if something gets reported enough scratch will just ban it
why dont they just make it so you can make projects for certain ages like roblox??? like if you enter your account as a 5 year old, you cant see a game thats 13+ ITS SO EASY
people lie about their ages
Too much work for their lazy asses
@@Challenger10K yea, but if they do, its their fault
they could also make it have a code email thing cuz i dont think little kids are gonna know what a code verification is. and in order to redeem the code the parent would have to enter the child's real age.
ive been reading the comments and i can not state this part in the cgs enough 'Please use the "Report” button rather than engaging in fights, spreading rumors about other people’s behavior, or otherwise responding to any inappropriate content.'
thats crazy
@@Challenger10K oh and by the way: can you please read my wall of text comment from earlier?
Should I check My stuff while my account is blocked?
i am not sure asking someone who has been banned would be a good idea
@@Challenger10K alright, I was not Blocked on my Account when I logged in thankfully.
@@R4443Studios glad to hear!
the thing is: you cant access my stuff while youre blocked. seriously.
I got suspended from commenting for a week over telling my friend "i'm leaving scratch to start creating real games"
They really can’t handle criticism 😂
@@Idunnohowabout7364 ik right?
ST taking after roblox with this one
they definetly are
roblox's moderation walked so scratch's moderation could limp
I had lost several hours of progress into a game because someone used my email to make an account and they had gotten that account banned, which led to both accounts getting banned. Another instance is where me and a friend tried to make a game, but someone kept spam reporting the alts we made that game on which led to us trying to rush the game in fear of us losing progress.
Just save the game to your device so you don't loose it. Still though shit moderation
@@Challenger10K in the first instance, i didn’t think anything would happen. But in the second instance, we did save our files, but sometimes we were too late.
i will become moderator. i will fix scratch. and no one will ever be falsely banned again.
one person cannot solve the issue. i cant. it needs awareness and will take lots of people to fix the issue
@@Challenger10K ok
unban me (ElyasomeedshanGamer, my 3yr old account)
one person cant just moderate 100% of the platform
Is this a reference to heavy is ded?
