Even though I miss Dave so much and he is now only in for cameos, the show holds its quality and entertains still as much as it has before. Big respect, Joe! You're doing great!! I love GameSack
Seeing those pictures of Dave with your copy of Snatcher gave me some serious serial killer vibes. Look at that grin while he holds Joe’s precious Snatcher, almost as if he were taunting him. Great episode as always, Joe!
That was a really, really well done outro Joseph... You're just so obviously talented... Thanks as always for your efforts, and all that you do for us.
I still remember the dark times when Gamecube component cables were our only option for the best video output. I had to settle for S-Video the longest time. I'm happy to see so many awesome manufactures step up to the plate and give us HDMI solutions for the Gamecube. Great video!
AFAIK epoxying is common among very cheap components instead of manufacturing an IC housing. PC Engine cartridges are the same way. If anything, it means the components are as cheap as possible and not replaceable.
That epoxying looked like it was done by hand, too - not even the automated sort you see in cheap mass-produced circuits, like alarm clocks or the little circuit boards from musical greeting cards. Seemed pretty sketch.
"This should really cost less" and maybe don't ship them unfinished... I'm glad Joe soldered the left pin in place to fix the audio, but that is not something he should have had to do.
More and more I find myself thinking the ending skits are the highlights of the Game Sack episodes. Joe should get nominated- nay, he DESERVES an Oscar.
I like how you referred to the Super 64 not being physically compatible with the SNES as a "missed opportunity" but the sad reality is that EON knew what they were doing when they designed it that way. An HDMI adapter for SNES is probably a future project for them and they want to make money, so I can assume it'll basically be the same product as the Super64 in a new shell. I'm kinda surprised that you didn't try it again after you opened it up to solder the audio connection back, unless you did and I missed it. Also great vid as always. Consistently impressed by the content you put up.
be aware, EON's version of the GCHD actually digitizes the analog audio out rather than using the pure digital signal from the digital AV out. other versions of the box don't have this problem
Plot Twist: Not only is Joe just imagining the Sega Channel is back, but he's imagined all of Game Sack. There's no Dave, he never owned Snatcher, and he isn't even in his own home. He's just sitting in a padded cell, staring at a wall, and holding a broken 3rd party 64 controller while the doctors look on sadly wishing they could break him free of the world he has created for himself.
Thank you once again for another great accessories episode, Joe. These are becoming some of my favorites you’re doing and I’m glad I got to hear your opinion on the Insurrection GC HDMI adapter. I think I’m gonna get the Carby!

@@ninjamaster3453 Changes to the TH-cam algorithm meant that he couldn't support a job reviewing games full time. He diversified with comics and Patreon. Great video, just as I'd expect from Game Sack. I found this especially helpful because your mention of the RetroPad32, which I quickly looked up. I use a pretty unconventional controller called a QuadStick (for people like me with quadriplegia) and I've absolutely scoured the internet for controller adapters that might help me access my older consoles but somehow missed this one. Anyway I contacted the developer of the RetroPad32 and he actually contacted the developer of the QuadStick and it looks like support for my controller is going to be added to the latest firmware. Long story short, looks like after five long years I'll be reunited with some of my favorite consoles (on actual hardware). Thanks for making these videos, they do make a difference.
Do check first that the adapter's Atari 2600 output is C64-compatible, and then only use that setting/mode (if there is one). Sega gamepads can damage the circuits of a C64, while they work fine on the Atari.
Great video as usual Joe! I have the Retropad 32; it's absolutely perfect for emulation, you basically get an input for your PC into which you can plug most any original controller, and it just works. The PC will see them all as the same controller, as the Retropad connects to the PC and the controllers (with adapter cables) connect to the Retropad, making for a very stable and predictable setup. Combined with newer versions of Retroarch you get latencies that's the same as the original consoles, tou can even go below that to compensate for an lcd tv... and if you go all out, like I did, you can hook your PC up to a CRT using CRT emudriver and a compatible card, and get native resolutions using the switchres function. Top it off by using Launchbox as a frontend, hide Windows completely, and the result is a pefect retro game setup. I own all the original consoles, but I just keep them in a nice display case to look at while playing on this setup. The downside is that this solution is both pricey and time consuming...
Good episode. That ridiculous controller adapter at the beginning looks awesome! I might have to snag myself one of those. The Game boy device that allows you to backup and write save data looks really cool too.
Joe Redifer oh man I remember you from the Magic Box forums back in the day! I used to go by Xero_0 back then haha. Happy to see you still kickin' and love the Game Sack content you and Dave worked on. I produce an Arabic podcast myself and it's nice to see MB alumni putting in work 😂. Best of luck!
Carby should just tap into the audio line of the GC similar to the GCHD device but with their Component Cables. It’s bulky but still less than having another cable for it especially when they can run the line within the Component Cable itself. He could then sell it for slightly more for the added convenience.
Yay! The return of one of my favorite GS series. This and Left In Japan have both been great features, helping me to find fun imports I never new about, or new toys to bling out the console farm. Thanks to Dave I am now the proud owner of a copy of Zenki Battle Raiden, among many other goodies. Keep being awesome, man, and give the "D" our best. *edit: So, is that retropad thingy what that one guy used to win a tekken tourney with a PS1 controller?
that's too bad about your super64 unit having the left sound channel having a botched job. glad that it was an easy fix, but it still doesn't look good for eon in that regard.
150 dollars for a faulty product that has lacking quality control and has to "fake" a better feel by adding a metal bar... yeah this is a project where i'm actively rooting for chinese clones.
@@Nukle0n I'd say they made that metal bar so it would be weighted down sit flush behind the N64... But I still find the product itself to be silly and pointless.
That multi controller adapter is definitely most appealing to me as a way to connect console controllers to an emulation station. At least if it could have a ton of them hooked up at once. Those Dreamcast, GameCube and Nintendo 64 adapters look wonderful.
We failed you... Dave and you are just one of the best retro game guys. Should have a million and plus subscribers. Dave could quit his job and you could give me the old school knowledge I need. Long time patron and fan.
Coming back to this vid, am proud to say I'm finally getting around to getting the DCDightal for my modded Dreamcast. I got one ordered and coming in, then once next paycheck rolls around, can get it installed. Thanks for more or less inspiring me to finally go for this,
Small note from European GameCube owner: One sad thing about GameCube in PAL regions seems to be that the progressive scan options are completely dropped. This is instead replaced in most games with PAL60 mode and most games ask for this with similar dialogue box without being "asked to" by holding B, though some games you do it like this. Because of this, European collectors get probably extremely diminishing returns from GCvideo products unless they force progressive scan modes with homebrew.

The reason they've epoxied the chips on the Super 64 is probably so people wouldn't find out it's just a less useful version of the Retrotink.
