You forgot one important feature for the Mister FPGA PS1 core. You can output 480i games to 480p mode. Making games such as Tobal 1, Dead or alive, Tekken 3 look fantastic!

Speaking of N64 core. It has support for mouse. You hook up your usb mouse and games such as Sin & Punishment play like a dream.

Hey Joe, great video. The Saroo guy patched the issue with saturn homebrew, so you may already have that firmware update. The Saroo often has to patch games to work (because it's cheap and janky) and the issue was that many homebrew apps share the same, generic "game id", which is also used by the retail game Heart of Darkness. The Saroo would then think that any homebrew app also using that ID was HoD and apply the patch, causing the game to crash on boot. As far as I know, this has never affected fan translations, as those have the same product number as the originals. The way Saroo has to patch games can cause issues with fan translations though, because the game data has been modified. People don't want to worry about that shit with Saroo, when it should really just be improved to not need to patch games. As far as we can tell, it's not for any good reason.
Thanks for the explanation. Hopefully they can get rid of the patching thing and also make it run ISOs and have directories.
@@GameSackagreed, and I'd add to that list an option to emulate original cd load times for stability. I think that's what's causing the graphical glitches.
@@jongeo There's also apparently an issue with VA0 Saturns where noise around the cart slot causes the audio glitches he was seeing assuming he has a VA0. I'd be curious if adding shielding to the Saroo Cart alone would help with that.

You can now pick up the MiSTer Pi by Taki Udon for around $150 complete! It's a fully compatible DE10 Nano clone so prices are pushed way down. No need to spend upwards of $500 anymore!
A company called QM tech also makes clone boards with the SDRAM built in.
If you can find one. I could only find one website and it's already sold out.
That doesn't bode well for the price staying that low for long.

Worth bearing in mind though. He sounds committed to long term production so I don't think prices are going to ruse much.
QMTech boards are sold on AliExpress, but recommend watching some vids on those first as they have some quirks.

Just curious why anyone would get the OpenED over the Mega ED X3? Both are $40, but the X3 is far better, in every way? It supports fast rom loading (2-4 sec), 56Mb ROM loading, supports Sega CD BIOS loading, SMS, GEN, 32X (w/hardware) loading, and has an SMS Pause button. I've been using the X3 since 2016 and still like it. Instant loading is a godsend. This coming from someone who used to load Genesis roms from floppy disks on a Super Magic Drive (in the 90's). So I was all too familiar with loooong load times. :P
It's something neat for developers to tinker with, I guess.
Krikzz open sourcing an implementation of an older style of flashcart seems more like a cool gift to the community than anything else. "Guys I realise this particular design is kinda obsolete in 2024 but from a certain engineering pov it's really nice. It would be a shame to have it remain unused. Here are all the files - please, do what you will..."
For the regular user it does seem a bit silly not to pay an extra $10 or so and get fully mature products like the X3 (or X5).
Oh, I love open sourced stuff as well (MiSTer and Analogue Pocket OpenFPGA are exciting). I just don't see what else can be done with the OpenED that would even make it close to being as good as the Mega EDx3. Perhaps if it had an FPGA and instant rom loading for the $40 price, it would be worth exploring, but it wouldn't sell for $40. I like open source, when it makes the most sense.
We can live indefinitely in 90s, thanks to all those creative people out there.
I switched to a Mister a few months back, but I'm glad that old consoles never truly die! (except when they die someday).

I couldn't pay attention for the first 5 minutes trying to recall where I heard that music from, because it sounded like a remix of something I knew. Gain Ground rules.
So on the Saroo if you want alphabetical game list, in the config file Joe mentioned to change the language, directly underneath that, add "sort_mode = 1" and it will then sort them for you. It should look like this:

@@GameSack for directories, youll want to set them up in the saroocfg as:
category1 = "folder-name"
category2 = "yet-another-folder-name"
then have directories matching the names you put in quotes under the ISO dir and you should be good. iirc it supports up to 10 different directories

I get so happy anytime Arnold Palmer’s Tournament Golf is mentioned. Such a great game with chilled out music and a fantastic Opa Opa cameo. That was the only game my dad played with us. He was so paranoid about us losing the instruction manual with all the club distances that he kept it in his room.

Load Binary might be for "homebrew". Much like ELF files for PS2. And it's expecting a file or files like you'd see in a computer program where there is a folder with files including an executable. You probably gave it a disk or rom image.
And 90% of these products are only in existence due to just a couple of factors.
1) Games were just better made back then.
2) IP holders refuse to make their products available for reasonable prices or allow reproductions.
3) The old Hardware is fun.

Hey Joe, the Saroo menu stuff has actually been fixed but documentation is kinda lacking. You will need to edit the config file to setup the folders and also enable auto sorting. I wish I could give more detailed instructions but sadly you’ll have to just translate a bunch of Chinese text 🤷🏻♂️
Last time was Coury and this time is Joe, seeing them angry is funny. I'm myself identify with all these retro gaming annoyances, sometimes you can't help but get angry.
The problem with the Sarro. Happens if you. Use a Sega Saturn 3200 model or a launch Sega Saturn. Us model. But no issues with the 3220 model
I'm blown away by all the research and time Joe puts into these projects. The fact he knows each one inside out shows what a pro he is.
Also, Craig sure turned out to be a hit. Wow. Now someone just needs to create an AI version of him to interact with Joe in real-time.

The saroo does not boot cd-r discs. I’ve tried it. And I’ve also hear that it can’t boot cd-r discs. now if I’m wrong please link it to where and how I can get it to boot cd-r discs. Please! 😀
Hmm you might be right. I just picked 3 random CD-Rs I have and none booted. Granted these are very old discs and the Saturn was struggling with them. The one disc that didn't make odd sounds showed up as "Not a game disc".
Yea I did the same. But with discs I know work ( cd-r ) all of them same thing. No boot. so I tried another Saturn and same thing. but when I use other carts that let me boot cd-r discs. All work fine. I just hope at some point there will be an update to saroo that will boot cd-r discs. Cuz that would be nice to have! if there’s every an update like that do you think you’ll make a video to let people know? 😀 also love your show!!!

Fenrir Duo works great and it's the least expensive ode for the Saturn right now. Astral plays great on it too
Hey Joe! In regards to Saroo's folder sorting you can do it with the current fw of v0.6. There is other firmware from Vortex (of the MVS 161 cart multi Hack) and Retro Game Restore, but those are based off older versions and now the main TPUnix Fw has surpased it for now. You can also add custom music and backgrounds in the v0.6 fw too. The BIN folder is actually for loading raw binaries which is not much that can load through it. I did get the Psuedo Saturn Kai flash tool to load but cant be used once the cart is removed.
Here's my example from my INI file, just paste it below the global area. You can rename or add more folder names in the ini to your liking. The folder catagories go in to the ISO folder, then just sort your games from there into folders like any other flash cart.

I think I'll change the name of my America folder to US since that's how I have it on other flash devices. And I can just change the name in the config file as well.

The audio on Game Sack has improved dramatically the music pops in headphones.
To fix the menu clipping with the Retrotink 4K, just append the following to the end of your mister ini file:

direct_video=0
You can also designate that per-core for any that have corruption with the Tink. Vectrex comes to mind.

my fusion causes issues with metal slug giving sprites virtical lines in the sprite itself. im using a 9v 1.5a psu so ive ordered a 12v 5a psu to see if that helps but for a product that says glitch free 100% compat its not working atm :(
