In this video, I give you my 5 steps to protecting your photos from thieves who steal them and then post them on Instagram or Facebook or many other social media platforms. Let's stop the practice of stolen photos used by scammers. Have you ever thought about copyright on instagram? Perhaps how to avoid copyright on Instagram? Well, if so, in this video, I discuss how to avoid a copyright strike and how prevent people from stealing photos and then posting them on Instagram or Facebook for their own purposes -- this also applies to copyright on instagram videos. I had a real estate client that sued someone for 1000s of dollars for using the images from her website and won the case..not worth the risk. Question..someone used an image of my face in their video..does this violate copyright on YT?

A lot of what you presented here applies more to me in the business world of people copying my PowerPoint slides. I ALWAYS use a copyright on my sides, as long as it is my content, and respect other people's content by giving them credit when it is not mine.

Once I found my whole YT video copied to someone else's channel. I contacted YT and the stolen copy was removed. I am fairly new to Instagram so I don't think people steal my pictures from there. Great video, Ian!

I had to learn a bit about Copyright when it came to my Songs. I had to make sure that all my songs were safe. Thank you for this in-depth lesson Ian. It’s unfortunate that these things happen but we also need to be vigilant when it comes to protecting our property.

I worked for this resort for eight years and got into my own business doing photography and they hired me under my business name outside of my usual work hours to do some updated photography. My boyfriend brought along his drone, he is not a photographer, and we did a bunch of Photos and I edited them. They paid me under my business name and there was no contract. A couple months later they put one of the drone photos on a major billboard. They tried not to pay me and somehow I got $1500 out of them after I complained. This was a major resort and they had it on the billboard for a year.
I never faced anything like this but I watched and liked your channel only because I am planning to create an account to post my artworks on Instagram and I don't want someone to steal my hardworks without my knowledge. I don't wanna loose my hardworks within a second which took a lot of time to get created

I have worried about this over time with my Wild Woman Mystery Cards artwork in particular ... and I use to not post them because of this... and then I just let go... I often put the copyright symbol.... I used a watermark... but I stopped and just made the pics hard to copy in other ways figuring that would deter them more .... I'm doing a series now of pics etc and you know, I got slack here... not anymore... :) Thank you for this video.... And I'm going to get your cease and desist letter.... I've sent a few of those out in my day! It always has worked... I'm going to try that website you talked of ... people use my cards in their profile pics etc... I don't worry about my customers... as they are expressing themselves, however, ... I do wonder about others.... Thanks Ian... I'm grateful for you. Love your videos. Thank you for the great video. My late father was photographer and I’ve come across some Facebook/Pinterest websites where the whole thing is just a compilation of his photos taken from his book. I’ve also noticed people taking photos from his official Facebook page and posting them on theirs. One person also made a website with my father’s photos and they had the nerve to place a watermark warning people not to copy the photo! Unfortunately it seems I’ll have to watermark everything from now on. I’m not sure about the © symbol. Do I put my name or his? He left the photos to me when he passed away.

Ian. Great one. I have had photos stolen in Instagram. These were quote cards and people cut out my name. I have a more disturbing one. I have had a situation where someone literally as in LITERALLY got the transcripts from four of my videos and created his own using the EXACT same words but used slides instead of showing his face. He was using them on his sales page to show “his” knowledge. I was able to contact him to get him to take them down but I’d be interested in your thoughts regarding this. I didn’t make the claim through TH-cam because I didn’t want a public record until I gave him a chance to do so. He ultimately took them down. Thoughts?

I recently started a photography Instagram account as a novice photographer (I’m 16). I found a photo I really like from someone a followed on Instagram and wanted to share it to my story so that the creator could get more exposure and tagged the creator in my story. I did so and credited the creator, but I soon got a message from the creator that they were upset and filed a copyright infringement against my account. I sincerely apologized but they blocked me before the message could be delivered. I realized that I should have asked permission. I have learned my lesson, copyright infringement is scary. Police and protection K9’s (Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherd, German Shepherds and Doberman)..I’ve noticed that these accounts that repost our pictures are bot accounts, ran by computer. We have traced a lot of accounts to Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
About a month ago my friends account got hacked and they turned it private, changed passwords and wanted a $500 ransom. That hacker was living in Turkey. Thankfully we got that one back with the help of Instagram/Facebook. It’s crazy. Thank you for reaching out, we appreciate you 🐺🇺🇸

Hello, I have a problem with instagram, people are stealing my art, I could fill a DMCA notice but I read that we had to provide our real identity (real name) and don't want to do that because the thief will see and for personal (obvious) reasons I don't want to provide my name. I have every proof I drew the art, I have the original files (PSD). Can it work with my nickname or it really has to be my real name? If it's the case I think I'll give up :(

I came by your video for I was facing a moral dilemma and don't know if you respond to these comments. About 5 years ago I took a photo while at an event and at that time the people in the photos were part of a Star Wars charity organization, within about a year I realized how nasty these people really were and needless say they harassed and bullied me to a point where I did take my own life. I am on the road to recovery after all this time and I have really become dependent on the help of others for my disability needs, the one few joys I still have is my photography. What caused these people to be nasty was that even though their international charter has them as a 501c3 charity group, those laws do not apply in Australia and they have attended a number of events as "paid" actors which I found out by accident when the organizer of an event tried to pay me and ask for copies of the photos, the leader of the group quickly said I was not part of the group but he would get the photos from me, I contacted the mother organizations and asked them to remove all association with me and the media I have taken of them, they declined to remove the media stating that I was a "guest" of theirs when taking the media and it is rightfully theirs and no one would believe a *raytard if I complained. Suffice to say when I took my own life, I deleted a lot of my life's work along with it, again as I said earlier I am on the road to recovery.
I few days ago I was told by someone they found a old photo I took on Instagram and it was found on this Star Wars groups Instagram page, I was not happy to see it there, good thing is I do have the original photo uploaded to my Flickr account under the creative commons cc by nc nd license. The photo has been cropped in where 60% of the original photo is missing and while their international charter has them as a charity group, I have seen them been paid as actors. I know I am been somewhat petty if I file a copyright notice and on the other hand they are still profiting off my work even after all they did to me. Am I in the wrong here?

What if someone screenshots your photo, posts them on their profile but gives you credits by tagging you and have already clamied that they do not own any of the pictures they have posted. Can the owner still claim copyright?
Short of delegating my entire Instagram photo display and starting over, editing each with the copyright Mark etc. is there a way I can protect what is already posted on My Instagram page. I’m a NYC photographer and I’ve had my photos stolen thousands of times by travel blogs, travel pages, photography pages, real estate pages, businesses. Usually instagram takes them down after I send the report but sometimes they don’t, they ask me to prove they’re my photos which is ridiculous.
