Great video. Teaching a communications class and really wanted to use this to help my students with their social media project, but the reference to drinking squashed that. All in all, great video!
Oh no, is there a drinking reference? 😕Maybe time to do a freshened, all-ages version of this video. I had another professor tell me she was using it in her class too - So cool to hear!

Thankyou once again Jerry. Ive been changing my Facebook writing and posting habits since i first seen one of your videos a few weeks ago. Your ideas are easy to digest and practical. i have a social events group and am trying to acquire more leads to my events from my FB page. In addition to that - Im also starting a writers group which Ive had my own page for that for a long time, but am only now getting some real engagement with my page. Still I have much to learn to get a prop[er leads to clients conversions from social media itself. But Im presistent and will not give up.
Thank you so much! I laughed quite few times while watching the video; most especially when you said how people's attention are hard to catch 'cause they're like "flying." 😂 I have a lot of things to improve on. Thank you so much! I enjoyed watching this video! God bless!
Valuable post! If your content is not relevant to your customers, you won’t generate traffic. Without traffic, there will be no leads. Without leads you’ll have nothing to convert into sales.

1. Never write out numbers. Eight - x just 8 2. Capitalize important word. First letter of word not all. The other one is yelling. 3. Use # for emphasis. 4. Space things out. Block of texts are no Good. 5. Use emoji. (Btw we are high end technology company, recently I started to use emoji. Cause why not?)
Hello Jerry, thanks for another great video, i have a question on italic and bold text options, as you mentioned that we do not have these option while writing a post but i have found that there are 3rd party websites, where you can write your text with various font choices and making them bold or italic, copy and paste it on facebook posts, if we do this... is it safe or does it somehow compromise the backend link of the post etc.?, i am not too technical about this stuff but wanna play safe, please advise, thanks
Thanks for your question! Unfortunately, Jerry Potter can’t get to all of them, but if you still need an answer feel free to post it in our free Facebook Community: facebook.com/groups/fiveminutesocialmedia/

Thanks for the tips!! (I promise that I am not trying to be judgmental at any level: 1:26 SPELING & GRAMMAR BE IMPORTANT. Did you make a spelling mistake at the word "speling"?! :P It almost feels as if it's on purpose to see if we are observant enough!) Lucie - The Coming Out Coaches

I had a marketing professor in college who first asked me what ":) lol" meant, then proceeded to let me know that was horribly unprofessional, extremely informal, and terribly disrespectful. I still tense up when I forget and drop a client a message and see that I have *gasp* used an emoji.
Some great tips - all reinforcing the PR mantra of targeting one's audience. I will disagree with you about the numeric advice: I believe using the AP Style rule of writing one through nine but 10 and over is OK. Your example of a date isn't fair...no one would spell out a year unless it was the first word of a sentence and that's discouraged.
Ha, I know, I was exaggerating for effect with writing out the year Catherine, but I appreciate the feedback! I'm happy to agree to disagree for digits though. I've done A/B testing and if the number is important, it almost always gets more reaction by using digits.
Thanks for responding! I shouldn't quibble with an expert...no doubt your stats are accurate. As long as it wouldn't hurt my client significantly, I believe, as professional communicators, we have a duty to further the correct use of our language and understanding - especially with our younger generations. I worry about them...
I feel you there! One of my personal pet peeves is people who never use capital letters, claiming it's their brand style. And yes, many of the tips in this video bend the rules, and that's not acceptable for certain brands.
I look forward to showing this video and then our exchange to my students tomorrow. One thing about social media: in the past age, it would have been quite difficult to reach a textbook author to quibble about his/her points...and chances are it wouldn't have gone well! Thanks again.
NEVER use emojis when appealing to a younger demographic. Also try to make your ads blend into what your demographic normally sees on their social media pages.

@ehornsbycomm this is perfect for what we learned in comm 400's Chapter 7 Strategic Writing for Social Media by Karen Freberg.
Maybe that restaurant should use emojis but very sparingly. So, special customers think "I got an emoji out of them."

You made spelling mistake "IMPORTAND"
1)Write Number in Numbers
2)First Letter Capital
I use emojipedia
Ha, yes, that was a joke. Spelling is misspelled too.
Who said dazzle with brevity?
the intro music scared the f outta me

Emoji. Lol. Your clients are the boss of their company. Oh well...
Yes they are, which is why we still don't use emojis on their stuff. 😀
you spelled spelling wrong
Ha, where?
1:30
Ah, yes, I remember now. That's misspelled on purpose. Important is also misspelled.
NEVER use emojis when appealing to a younger demographic. Also try to make your ads blend into what your demographic normally sees on their social media pages.
emojis on posts from established brands are cringy
Interesting that you feel that way Enryu. Do you think that for all emojis? Or just emoji abuse where people use WAY too many?
