I have just started as a postgraduate at the Uni of York and tbh I wouldn't recommend it. Not because the uni isn't nice, but because it's insanely expensive to live in York. I have more money to work with than most of the undergrads do and even I'm worried. I was able to afford a MUCH better quality of life in Birmingham for much less money. I paid £30 less in rent per week in Birmingham than I do here, and that was for an ensuite, all bills included, a decent kitchen and TV, a cleaner once every two weeks, and I was still only a 15 minute walk from campus. I don't even get my bills included here, so actually I'm paying even more than I thought I was compared to Birmingham. And the nearest Aldi (which is definitely all you can afford after the obscene rents) is pretty far from the uni.

hey Dylan, I would say not being able to understand a lecturer - and the university taking no action to mitigate this - is a big problem; yes it does happen almost everywhere now, but I think we need to be harsher when reviewing teaching standards at universities. In my experience the staff are so flustered, dispassionate and occupied by admin that the teaching is poor, both in terms of the content they produce (lectures) and the quality/thought put in to assignments and marking/feedback. (I studied at NTU and UoH, my GF is at UoY now and she really dislikes her Masters Course)
@@zhooeelle The couse used to be called molecular medicine, can't remember what it's called now. Don't get me wrong she loves some of the staff and she did have some interesting projects - but overall it was not like expected or sold and (in my humble opinion) it was assessed harshly/unfairly at times. Few cases of poor informing of students before an assessment leading to very stressful situations that could have been avoided. Also worth mentioning I have a general issue with university in the west as a whole. So my views might be a little extreme and not representative of the facultys efforts... I just can't get past how the cost of uni has increased so much yet the quality of teaching has declined in response.
