    I have had a few and I'm only 5'6" tall with a 27 1/2 inseam
    but I managed....
    Now I have a Vespa and a few other scooters but only 58 years of age

      Ha, I could’ve written this myself! I’m 5’8” with 30” leg and also had a GS though not the Adventure model. It was fine. I now have my RE Himalayan called “Lhotse” as well as a 2020 Honda Monkey and ‘85 Honda Cub. I’ll be 63 this year and have back and hip issues but I find being on bike seems to improve rather than worsen these problems. The easy riding nature of the Himalayan is perfect on the back roads of the England/Scotland borders where I live.
      Thanks for these videos Ol’ Man Ronin, they are inspirational!

    Watched this when I was trying to decide on my first bike. Came back to say that because of this review I bought a 2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan from the Throttle Co. in Columbus, Ohio. Awesome service, awesome bike. I'm female, 5'6" and forty years old and not very in shape. When I first sat on the bike I could touch the floor on the balls of my feet and they dropped it slightly so that I can almost flatfoot it. I've had it out for about four short rides so far, dropped it twice in the deep gravel of my driveway. I can almost get it back off the ground by myself. I'm going to need to do some squats and deadlifts in order to be sure I can if I'm ever out alone. It's pretty forgiving of my many mistakes and seems easy to handle although I don't have any experience to compare it too except a few short rides on a Honda Supercub about twenty years ago. What I like the most is the gear indicator- super useful, it's comfy for someone with a lot of lower back issues, I've hit potholes, puddles, bad concrete, rode in the rain, and it acted like it was on dry flat pavement, it takes turns easily even when I'm panicking because I'm sharing the middle part of the road with an oncoming truck. What I don't like, it can be hard to start that first time, but once it's warmed up it starts back up easily every time you stall it out, it's heavy and slightly top heavy and takes a minute to learn how to walk it around in the driveway so you can line it up for take off. So far I'm pretty happy with it. I chose this bike over others because I'm into hiking, camping and want a bike that has some off road capability while still being able to use it as a daily driver on questionable roads and so far I think I made the right choice.

    I’ve been riding everything and anything since the early 80s…. Currently on a ‘74 Norton Commando which I’ve had for many a year, and having sold my GPz1100 last year, I am looking for a another second bike. I can’t believe I’m considering a Himalaya.. but I am! I’m much more a fan of minimalism in a motorbike (and in life!) these days. Thank You for posting all these wonderful videos - they’ve really helped me get to this decision point!

    Here in the uk we go by hp rather than cc. Which means a new rider can ride a 650 that has been mechanically restricted to 33 Hp. (I think) once you have passed a rigorous test you can progress to higher hp.
    So yes, i too would say the Himmy is a great starter "big" bike. So much so, I've gone back to a Himmy after some much bigger bikes and find it so lovely to ride.

    The Himalayan was my first bike and I loved it until it got stolen. 😔. I’m 5’6” and it was the perfect height. After it was stolen I rode my boyfriend’s Bonneville for a while and finally got my 20 year old f650gs on the road. Took forever to register due to COVID. It was an interesting progression and I have a new appreciation for the Bonneville being a perfect bike. The significant factor with the Himalayan is the high center of gravity. It’s easy to drop. You learn to really study the ground. You can’t just park it just anywhere. I ride in NYC and got it for off road capabilities. People laugh at that but I’ve broken a strut on a truck on the streets of Brooklyn. I will say that you feel the ruts with the Himalayan the most of the three bikes I’ve ridden so far. The bike is rugged but I’m really glad I put crash bars and guards on it cause like I said, it’s easy to knock over. The 2021’s have lowered the rear rack and that’s probably good because the week before my bike got stolen, the rack broke and my top case was dangling off the bike by a cargo net that fortunately was wrapped under it. I would recommend replacing it or reinforcing it if you have the older models. All that said, I would have kept it forever. Only got to take it on a dirt road once. Lots of hills and trail braking. It was awesome. I think it’s a lot of bike for the money and probably the only new vehicle I’ll ever own. I’m warming up to the f650gs now that I’ve worked out some issues of an older bike and quite frankly it’s almost too easy to ride. A lot less challenging than the Himalayan. I can’t decide if that’s good or bad. The new 2021 Himalayan has got me thinking, though.

      The tipping over when parked by the Himy might be due to its too long side stand, a known issue. The bike is standing too upright.

      sorry you got your himmy stolen, i am from the UK and the 2021 that i have just ordered has the extra clock with the tripper navigation installed, newer seat with more comfort, and as you have said the lower rear rack which sits flush with the rear seat..maybe USA will get the extra's later in 2021, so i would wait, i have just sold my 2018 BMW R1200GS 'Rallye', first 600 mile service was £225/$314 which included a full brake fluid change, why? WTF! ? 2nd service at 1200 mls (i work alot and dont have much time to ride) was £265/$370..my last service was done by my suzuki dealer that i had always bought bikes from in my 31 yrs of riding, cost me £165/$230 all in...the oil and filter was BMW...the oil and filter cost £90/$125

    I think it's amusing that everyone talks about "good for newbies" and "stepping down" to one of these because of getting more "mature"!! I'm only 40 and have a himy as my one and only bike, had it nearly 3 years now and really enjoying it! I've had lots of different bikes in the passed 20 years but this one is the first bike I haven't had to watch for police speed traps or look for that overtaking spot continuously (South UK is very busy) or fill my pants because there's a pothole or drain on that corner I'm leaning into! This is actually the most enjoyable bike I've had, casual sit up, look around, relax, I've noticed and seen so much more on my rides with this bike than any other! The cost (buy/maintain), the simplicity to work on and service is brilliant. It's slower but that just means your ride is longer..... That is not a negative in my book!! Just enjoy it guys! ✌️

    Scott, I gotta tell you I agree with you 100%. I never had a motorcycle growing up. I wanted this basically because it looked really cool. But the first time I rode it I got the feeling it was made for me, you know. I am 6 ft tall, more than average for an Indian. And this bike is a freaking Titan on the Indian roads. Pfft. Everyone knows a turbo charged Hayabusa is the best starter bike. 😆 Seriously, I’m looking at the Himalayan as my “exit bike.” I have 40+ years of riding experience on everything from 125cc dirt bikes, to liter bikes, to baggers, and having “been there, done that,” I’m ready to wind down my riding career on something light, comfortable, and easy to maintain. Anyone who’s really ridden motorcycles will tell you that the biggest smiles can often be found on the smallest bikes. At 6’1”, I’m not sure if the ergos will work for me, but the Himalayan is on my short list. I appreciate your well reasoned, sensible take on what looks like a really fun bike.

    Awesome video here. Having started my cycleing back in the 80's on a CL360 Honda (at least I think thats what it was lol) which was a street bike and high centered so tip toeing was what I had to do but I tried taking that on country roads and such but dropped it so dang many times I just didnt like riding it at all. Then a friend and I went out on his little enduro type bike and I destroyed it unfortunatley because I couldnt handle the throttle. So, I stopped riding since then until I saw Itchy Boots on her Himmy and I fell in love (with the bike, not her lol). I like Noraly but it takes a while for me to fall in love with women but the point it seeing her going all over the world in every condition and road/trail you could imagine I decided I had to have a Himmy.
    However, I have made some expensive rash decisons in my long life so I decided to "do my homework" which is funny as I never liked school but I wanted to compare the various ADV bikes and all. Seeing Noraly change from a Himmy to a Honda 500 and now a Honda 250 made me think it would be prudent to check them and what Ive seen from all the bikes and their riders etc that there just cant be another bike for me than a Himmy.
    I'll be starting out with the 411 but may move up to the new 650 Himmy thats supposed to come out next year. Reasoning there is Im not sure if the 411 can haul a trailer as I wanna travel FAR and saddlebags/paniers may not be big enough for the stuff I wanna bring (clothes, tools, camping equipment and technology et all {imagine off grid}) so the 650 may be better suited for that than the 411. Of course thats if I can find a trailer that will go on trails etc and not just the street/touring type of trailer. Otherwise just do it like Itchy, just camping instead of hostels etc.
    One thing Noraly doesn't do much of is showing how to maintain her bike so thats where Ronin comes in with his vids on maintainence and mods and 50+ years of riding a motorcycle as well as his love for the Himmy.

    • @OlManRonin
      @OlManRonin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      great comment and sincere thanks. my guess is that a on/off road trailer, may be a custom deal you'll have to forge yourself. There are great off road trailers but are limited to 35mph. There are also more on road which have no ground clearance. I suggest upgrading an on road trailer for off road use. if would love to see it done or some company supply me one and I'd fabricate one lol cheers

      @@OlManRonin I was thinking the same thing since I havent seen anything like that type of trailer. That is a great Idea though to play with a on road trailer maybe get risers to get the fenders up higher (and wider) and place appropriate tires on it. Might need to turn a drop tine trailer hitch over or something to get the trailer level though? Or, you can make them and create a side business since you got the shop, experience and the tools. I'd buy one from you. Just sayin. Cheers

    Again another great commentary and ride out, you sure have the weather and diverse rides in close proximity.
    You've nailed the Himalayas' almost uniqueness in class, it's only maybe a little extra weight to lack power, yet then it all comes together and delivers in a package built by design from the gound up... it is unique.
    The likes of the other small ADV.. not to advertise.. Honda CRF 250L/Rally, KTM 390 Adventure, BMW G 310 GS/Rally, Kawasaki 300x versys or Suzuki v-strom 250 to mention a few, have been derived from road versions, even twin motors, the G310 is single short stoke and has to be revved out.. They all preform no better than the Himalaya.

    In the UK you’re limited to a 50cc moped (at 16) or a 125cc on learner plates before you start your licensing. Even then you have to complete Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) before you’re aloud out on your own... Then you have to complete 3 more training sessions & licences (A1 17 years old or older no Learner plates & A2 19 years old or older & bikes up to 47bhp) then you do your full ‘A’ licence to allow you to ride bikes of any capacity... In UK the speed limits on roads other than motorways (70mph) have been lowered steadily over the last few years. 'A' roads that were once 60mph are now 50, 40, and even 30mph especially around urban areas. Big fast bikes are becoming irrelevant (except for ego massaging and the occasional mid-life crisis).
      However, small capacity bikes offer significant advantages over cars in an urban environment - cheaper to run, easier to park, and they don't get stuck in traffic. Also, you don't have to share your personal transport with passengers which, in these extraordinary times, has a certain appeal. Is there any wonder why (small) bikes are becoming more popular in UK?

    You need to checkout red rooster performance mods for RE bikes, they are specifically designed to boost Horsepower, rideability and make it more fun. They are very popular in India especially their powertronic ECU piggyback system along with knN filters I'm guessing you'll enjoy the gains.....cheers n safe riding.

    Hi, great review!! As a 50 years old total beginner will you considered Himalayan or meteor 350 for a first bike!? Will do town, country side road but not so much off-road. Thanx and greetings from Serbia ✌️

    • @OlManRonin

      If youre not going off road and as a beginner, the Meteor is a far superior choice based on it's height, comfortability and easy of operation. But ALWAYS test ride both of them first. That way you can see which fits you best. Thank you for watching and sunscribing!

    Hey Ronin thanks for the good info. This is one I'm certainly considering, but what about Kawasaki Versys 300x. It has some more "tech" in it, such as assist & slipper clutch, and dual throttle valves. Do you think these are better in terms of a beginner? The Himalayan doesn't have slipper clutch. Do you think it makes a big difference in terms of safety?

    • @OlManRonin
      @OlManRonin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think learning on a BASIC motorcycle is best. gimmicks and gadgets only break down. Safety is your personal responsibility, not added tech. Like grandpa always said. the idiot with the wrist is where the control is. ;)

    First of all you look like undertaker.... really rough and tough guy😁
    Now come to topic.
    If we have tech. of making rockets we can also make a good high performance bike which no one will buy in India due to it's cost😀. It's the business factor and cost factor.
    Second thing......Americans buy bikes for touring and off roading for fun enjoyment and pleasure.
    In India bike is a 'necessity'...We people go to office and use it for daily commute.Only 0.0001% in India go for touring and off roading.Neither we have time nor money.😃😃Sunday also working.Ask for a holiday boss will kill you😂😂
