    **EDIT**
    So the video was claimed after being published, so there may be about a minute of silence at the end of the reaction. This was because of the claim and TH-cam having to mute that section. So I'm sorry about that.

    I was a concept artist on Inception, so I'm biased! I loved the movie. Haha- I do remember in early meetings how lost I was in Christopher Nolan's genius. I was confused, excited, and at times, blown away at the things he wanted to create. He was influenced by MC Escher mazes and puzzles as well as other influences I had never even heard of. I'm so proud to have been a part of that film, and I'm glad you both liked it, Holden and Jen. Cheers!

      Good! Maybe you can clarify something: were ANY of these dreams Fishers? If so, I missed it. Thought he was pulled into other peoples’ dreams. Such an awesomely confusing plot, not surprised if I’m wrong.

    • @SPEEDPAINTER1
      @SPEEDPAINTER1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@glitterspray It's been awhile since I've seen it, but it's a heist movie where the thieves enter the mind of Fisher. But If I remember correctly, Cobb's personal demons intertwine with the mission causing problems for the heist to be successful. You think you were confused. I worked on this movie listening to Christopher Nolan explain this stuff. Then I sat at my desk thinking-- how am I gonna do this??? Haha. My advice is to see it a couple more times. Sometimes you have to see a movie like this a few times to wrap your head around it. Best of luck and Happy Thanksgiving.

      FF: Michael Caine asked Nolan which scenes are real world and which aren't after he read the script and as he was having trouble following when the cut offs were so Nolan said to Caine that any scene he is in i.e Caine's character - that scene is real world. So most likely the ending is real and the spinner begins to topple eventually and we don't see it, also his kids in the end are wearing different clothes to the ones he sees in his memories/flashbacks - they're also slightly older.

    A good theory is that the spinning top can't be trusted, since it was mal's totem, and that it never became cobb's totem.
    Cobb's totem was, is and always will be his wedding ring, which appears or dissappear given the scene.
    Meaning the ending's real despite whatever the spinning top says

      @@dragonseil53 Kids don't age? IMDb says that there are different, older actors for the children, they would still need to look similar of course, otherwise it would risk confusing the more... "basic" audiences. Caine straight up confirmed it and then there's the wedding ring theory.
      I mean, kids grow up fast, sure, but people say this like they wanted the kids to be full on teenagers. The timeline is purposely vague because of this.

    • @vinnicinhus44
      @vinnicinhus44 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That depends because the spinning top is the only totem that we see displaying an unusual behavior in the dream. We don't know what the other totems do. I would assume the purpose of the totem is only to let you know that it's the real thing. You can't let anyone touch it, because then they would know it too. It's something that you have to know very deeply to be certain that it's yours. Mal died, so Cobb could get to know the particulars of the totem to make it work for himself

    Even though everyone believes the ending is open ended, from what I see it is supposed to be real because of two things:
    - The spinning top wobbles in the end. Just like it should do before stopping. We never see the top wobbling in the dream.
    - Cobb sees the faces of his children.
    Although Nolan's intention is that in the end it doesn't matter because finally he is with his children.

Your high quality video and tight production format could make your vids seem contrived (not your fault, just the reality of high quality production), but the real life stuff in the background brings the audience in with you. Great decisions and great review.

    Random fact I haven't seen anyone mention yet: When Cobb go meet Eames (aka "Venom"/Tom Hardy) he's holding a Casino chip and Cobb tells him something like "no matter how much you rub them they won't multiply", because that's Eames' totem. He rubs his chip in his dream and it "split" into two chips.

    3:02 one of my favorite bits in the movie is this part, and it took quite a few rewatches for me to notice it.
    Here, after Cobb's left, Saito and Mal are discussing Cobb's next actions, and Mal's face is blank. Expressionless.
    As Saito opens the envelope to make sure the information is still there, we get another shot of her face, and it's still blank.
    After Saito opens the envelope, and realizes he's been duped, he screams in anger, and we get another shot of Mal. This time, she's smiling warmly toward where Cobb left.
    Even as she betrays him, she can't help but admire Cobb for pulling one over on Saito that quickly.

    Couple of things to mention here. First, when I saw this movie in the theater with my wife and the hallway sequence with JGL played out, I immediately turned to her and said "Did you just see that?" as if she wasn't sitting next to me watching the same movie, my jaw was on the floor so much after seeing that. Second, the end of this produced an incredible reaction in me just as the end of Prestige did when the screen cut to black and the credits rolled as Thom Yorke's Analyse played. Nolan is a premier filmmaker , and Black Swan by Aronofsky similarly amazed me with its dynamic camerawork in the ballet scenes, man we are fortunate with our directors these days. Nolan, Aronofsky, Paul Thomas Anderson, Edgar Wright, Fincher, Denis Villenueve, good God I wish each of them would get as much hype as superhero movies, they are all amazing and their work isn't getting the attention it deserves

Westworld, especially season 1, has a similar confusing vibe where you really have to pay attention, every answer they give also raises two more questions and it all comes together at the end and changes your perspective on the entire show. It's been debated that everything from the scene where Cobb tests the sleeping drug on through the end of the movie was ALL a dream. The thing is, the top wasn't Cobb's totem, it was his wife. His totem was his wedding ring, which is why it appears and disappears in different scenes. When he is wearing it, he is in a dream. It's missing when he is awake.

    I'm in the camp that Maul was right. She's not dead and woke up when she jumped out the window. Because in that scene when Cobb is trying to prevent her from jumping, he says "Step back inside" which makes no sense. If she's across from him in another building, the sensible thing to say is "Go back inside." So she was probably hanging out the window of their suite, but in dreams sometimes things don't make sense like geography, but we accept it.

    Holden and Jen talking over each other about the cause of Mal's suicide was delightful, and likely just a taste of off-camera discussion.
    Often we casually use the phrase "It makes you think" when we talk about movies but the story of INCEPTION was debated and debated for months after release. It truly was a film which sparked nuanced discussion about so many ideas.
    In that way - and this is not a new take - Nolan "incepted" us to think about his movie, to the point of obsession for some, for much longer after than the average movie ever could.
    In that way, it is inarguably one of the finest films ever committed to screen.

But in any case all the scenes with Mal’s totem in the dreams it would never wobble at all. It would always spin perfectly straight. In the last shot, right before we cut to black, the totem starts to wobble slightly.
    PS. But if you really, really want to cheat: the actors that played the kids throughout the movie and the actors that played the kids at the very end were different factors. The kid actors at the end were several years older in real life matching the time Cobb spent away from his kids. 😃
