    LOVED this video. My husband and I are very happy together, married for 4 years, and we agree 100% with everything you said. We actually recognize ourselves in you guys and your relationship. My two favourite points were having a shared vision (it was important for us to have the same spirituality and doing volunteer work together) and making the effort (You have to work everyday on YOURSELF so that your relationship can grow). Thank you again for the video x

      +Gabriela Centurion Neumann oh right I forgot about that part. I agree with you though, to me a truly happy relationship has to have commitment and "rules" the two establish beforehand (like not cheating, not flirting with other people etc) :)

    • @GabrielaCenturionNeumann
      @GabrielaCenturionNeumann 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jennylafrenchie Exactly. And when you do that, you are establishing conditions. The word "unconditional" shouldn't be associated with love. Of course you love the person despite their imperfections, just like they love you like that. But when those imperfections somehow affect the other, it's not logical to keep on loving just the same. And that is a condition :)

      +Michael Sórm I'm very up for anything, I like changes. I want changes. I like to experience and do many things. He's very set in his ways. He doesn't like those things. He says he wants to do all these things but he never tries to. He's the type that if it's not broken, why fix it. Or whatever that saying is. And that's not really me. I hope that makes sense.

    You guys described "unconditional love" in a very wrong way. You are saying that in a relationship you shouldn't put conditions on your partner such as: -they don't have to make promises to you, -they can do whatever they want, -they can flee anytime they want, -they can make their own chooses and not consider you. That is not what "unconditional love is". Unconditional love means loving someone through the thick and thin. If one spouse looses their hair, you love them. If they lose their job and are broke, you love them. You love this person (or choose to love they person), during the times when its hard to love them. You stick with them. People change all the time, and love (the feeling) sometimes goes away, but choosing to be together, working through things, and not giving up is what unconditional love means. (And I'm not saying you have to put up with abuse, or cheating). In my opinion, putting each other first before yourself is love.

      Hi. You make good points, and I think if they could answer us they would agree to those points as well. I don't think they are saying not to love the person when things are bad at all, I just think they came to point from another direction.😊 They love each other so much that they are willing to give each other nessasary freedom at times, and will both be comfortable and confident in the relationship if the other had to go on a solo trip etc. But it seems as though they really do love each other and if either if them had to go through something very difficult, I don't doubt they would be there for each other 😊. That's just my opinion. Thanks for yours! 👍🏼😉

This wasn't a typical relationship video where the key to a successful relationship is "honesty, communication..." and so on. This was such a relevant, refreshing and passionate video. A common vision is everything! I want someone who dreams like me. And works like me. Understands me. Obviously compromise is still involved because we wouldn't be the same person, but we'd be walking together in the same direction. I think that is my issue, is that I sometimes come off as unapproachable. It actually just takes me a while to fully open up and trust someone else with my thoughts. And though many people express interest in me, I rarely explore the possibility because I'm looking for someone very specific, a companion for my life in medicine and my hobby in music. Someone who sees what I see would be a worthy partner for life.

    Mimi and Alex,
    Wow. This video was really eye opening. Through out the video, I kept trying to visualize my partner and I doing these things with each other. I kept relating your examples to my own. I realized that I couldn't, because we don't have a common goal so he as an individual doesn't meet my needs. We won't ever start and finish a hard conversation because he doesn't care if I feel understood. I always imagined in conditional love to be working inside myself to not be bothered by him. And putting up with feeling small and belittled. I always imagined the success of our relationship being based on my ability to find tolerance. But its not. Alex makes me see that there are guys out there who want me to be independent and heard and wouldn't do things to make me feel insecure because me being successful and happy benefits them. Thanks guys. I appreciate the clarity and the honesty.

    I agree with most of your points but not quite with the "independent" side of the relationship you guys seemed to have mentioned. Yes, the individuality of a person is very important and you should try to grow and be the best version of yourself while in a relationship. However, I feel like stating that you wouldn't have a right to tell the person to stay if they decide to go travel the world or that the two people in the relationship have to be independent is somewhat dismissing the relationship in my opinion. You should care about each other and that involves not simply thinking oh if this is good for me I'll do it no matter whether it affects the other person or not. To me it also seems like unconditional love means you wouldn't care about them more than you in a way, so not completely agreeing with the putting yourself first either. Yes, learn to love yourself in order to get what you truly deserve. But not in the way where you always put yourself first in the relationship.

  • @leldelibeka554
    @leldelibeka554 8 ปีที่แล้ว +45

    Mimi, I have got a question for you - would you be totally fine with Alex's decision to travel the world (because of his inner calling) now when you are about to have your first child? My point is that with commitment comes certain level of responsibility towards the other person especially when a child is involved. So the part about travelling the world or when you are in a committed relationship to just leave the person because you suddenly felt some sort of inner calling to leave, I cannot really agree with it.

    • @sarvanimandapati1214
      @sarvanimandapati1214 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lelde L I think the idea behind it is- that whoever you choose to be with wouldn’t leave you alone in that situation to be a single parent. And if they did, it at least wouldn’t be a surprise, because that’s the person/personality you fell in love with and choose to be with. Because in the video they talk about respecting others’ visions for their lives/future, and to not set yourself up for failure by thinking people will change with time or for you, but instead be aware and be realistic. Having the same vision is important they mention too. Of course in reality, I do recognize that it’s not that perfect and a hypothetical like this could turn out to be like a very surprising and dramatic situation. But just a thought haha based on what I got from the vid

    • @rubondoislandproject
      @rubondoislandproject 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with Sarvani, look if you make a decision together to be parents, to raise kids, then that means it is something both people want. So Alex would not leave to go on holiday if Mimi got pregnant. Because the couple both really want to have kids. But if the man doesn't 100% want kids and the woman decides to get pregnant, then well the man may well leave, that is the point of this video, that a couple should have a shared vision of what they want today and for their future. I have tons of girlfriends in unhappy relationships because they have partners who want a different life, I also have other female friends who set goals for themselves and only date men who share their goals and visions. Being 40 now, I can say that the people who struggle in relationships in their 20s are still the same people in their 40s trying to find partners, while those who understand this simple rule have had a much easier time dating, and being married and or being in long-term relationships.
      It is really that simple, but so many people struggle to understand that you have to find that person who wants a similar life to you, once you get that person the rest is much easier.
      So I would say for single folks, make a list of what you want, then next time you meet a guy and start dating just be honest and ask them those important questions, if they tick 80% then that is something you can work with. But if it is less than 60% then move on to the next person because you will not be happy in that relationship ! Seriously I know guys who do this, and women.
      It ain't that hard but you need to have the self discipline and love for yourself to walk away (even if the relationship is a happy one, minus the fact that Partner x doesn't want to live abroad, have kids, and so on and so forth)

    You guys, I absolutely LOVED this video and it got me to some serious thinking. I honestly was shocked I had never seen it so simple before - if you want a cat, well, get a cat. Ive spent so many wasted hours, days and months with people who I knew were not what I need and want, out of loneliness. This was a fresh view and I loved your honesty. You two are great together. THANK YOU!!!

    If you weren't yet, non you absolutely are the most inspiring couple ever seen. You know what? You give me hope: it's really strange, but everytime I watch you're videos I see the concrete realization of what I think is the "ideal relationship". I love and completely share the way you have reached a "dreamy" lovestory just being 100% honest and realistic! It's a kind of magic! I think all I need it's just a little luck meeting the right person... I should say the one who have my own vision! Thank you to be so inspiring and make us part of your world... huge hugs!

    Hi Mimi, after you talked about the book "mastery of love", I read some quotes and I decided to buy it. Then I thought, maybe you could make a video where you talk about all the books that were significant to you and that helped your inner growth. I love the way you are and for sure the books have helped you to be who you are today. I would like that...think about it =)))) A big big hug...love you

And this year they'll be celebrating their 39th wedding anniversary! Thank you guys for sharing this!

    I haven't found that special someone yet but these tips really encouraged me to becoming the best version of myself! It's so true what you said about people having expectations but not thinking about if they harmonised with their 'prince charming'. I have the greatest respect for your relationship and really appreciate you sharing such genuine advice which I think will save a lot of us unnecessary heartbreak in the future! The tip with the talking and hugging actually also works with friends, just gave it a try with my flatmate and we're all zen once again :D Thanks guys, big virtual hug! :) xx

    Good stuff, I have viewed relationships like this since I understood what a relationship was. Problem for me has been finding a female that sees it this way. Also, I don't actively look for relationships because I'm quite content alone (that whole loving yourself and having a fantastic relationship with life itself) but when I choose to be in relationships I try to bring this philosophy to the table and I am constantly misunderstood.
    I don't know if its the women I've dated, or if it's because their previous relationships have jaded them to only see relationships in one way ("it has to be this way, because that's all I've known"), whatever it may be. You guys are lucky, you've found what I've always wanted since jump.

    I just found your channel through amelia's vlog and I'm so happy I did! I've been with my partner for 13 years and totally agree with everything you said! We also do very similar work and have the flexibility to be together for much of the day, have travelled the world etc. and most people can't believe how we don't kill each other but it is such a source of fulfilment for both of us. I've never sat down to enumerate all the things we live by but we definitely do everything you both mentioned!

    I'm turning 19 this year and still haven't had a boyfriend. It never really bothered me (i always knew the right one would come one day) but ever since I entered college a month ago I've been feeling immensely insecure about it. Mainly because my eyelids don't look identical and I also squint due to a tumor I had on my lid as a baby (which luckily got removed) I think no boy would even look me in the eyes and think they're beautiful. I hate making eye contact with other people because of this and it's just.. Devastating.

    • @GabrielaCenturionNeumann

      I have worn glasses since the age of seven. My eyes are deviated and I cannot solve the problem. Not even with surgery. But you know what my husband says? That they are lovely. He looks at me in the eyes and say I am beautiful... even when at times I am feeling ugly. The man that is for you will not let those things stop him from seeing your heart, the person you are on the inside. And he will see how beautiful you are. Don't get discouraged, please. Use this time of single to get to know yourself better, learn who you are and when you feel that you are able to bring someone else to the equation, the right man will come along. It's what happened to me. Trust me, it is worth it :3

      Rebekah, everything will work out for you. Always tell yourself that. You're still young and have plenty to figure out, but it makes me sad to see that you're not confident! Use this time to develop that because being single will help you grow so much and then you'll find someone who fits so well with you. You're beautiful and have wonderful qualities that you just need to focus on. I used to hate how I looked and I definitely wasn't confident. But one day it clicked and I realized how smart I was and how many talents I have and I realized that I was so proud to be who I was. Please, look people in the eye and smile! Ask anyone around, one of the most attractive attributes a person could have is confidence. Don't be afraid to smile and say hi to people. If they don't smile back or say hi back, well then be glad you didn't make a friend like that! You'll make tons of friends and soon find that special someone. All the happiness in the world to you ❤️.

      I'm nineteen and also in college and never really had a boyfriend. I totally understand how you feel because even though my eyes are fine I have insecurities that are just as strong in the back of my mind. But sometimes I think, which isn't the best thought but it makes me feel better haha "I've seen very physically unattractive people before who are in a relationship and seem to be so in love and their appearance doesn't matter. Every woman can find a man just as ugly as them, and they will both think the other is beautiful and love them completely." I hope that doesn't sound too bad but it helped me put things in perspective. I also doubt your eyes can be that bad as you look very pretty in your profile pic. If they don't won't you, then you don't want them.
