      Hello. Is it ok to apply for a passport in a state that you don’t live in? My daughters father lives out of state and we were going to visit next year. Can we apply in his home state and have it mailed to us in our home state?

      Hi. To sign the application, do i write my child's name in Applicant's field for signature and then my signature in parent's field? Is my signature enough or there must be also like "By mother"?

      The thing that's confusing for me (I'm filling this out for my little daughter born abroad) is that the form is FOR my child, yet it doesn't ask anything about her. All the information is about me. Is that correct? Where do we record her information - at the in-person interview? It doesn't make a lot of sense.

    Current timelines are 10-13 weeks for Routine; 7 to 9 weeks for Expedited as of March 24, 2023. February 6 to March 23rd are 8-11 weeks for routine; 5 to 7 weeks for Expedited. Before February 6 would be 6 to 9 weeks for routine; 3 to 5 weeks for Expedited. Urgent service is available if you need to travel within the next 14 calendar days or if you have a life or death situation of an immediate family member. Urgent and Life or Death require proof of travel with life or death also requiring proof of life or death (death certificate or even hospital documents and professional translation if not in English.
    Keep in mind that it might take up to two weeks for the application and documents to get to the Passport facility.

    Timelines are now 8-11 weeks for route; 5-7 weeks for Expedited. This does not include the time it takes for the Passport application to be sent to the State Department from the Acceptance facility. Furthermore, it might take up to two weeks for a passport to be shipped to your location once it has been printed. These are the current timelines if you have applied after 10/2/2023. Before 10/2/2023 refer to my other comment on timelines being 10-13 weeks for Routine; 7-9 for Expedited.
    If you need to get it within 2 weeks you can call the state department at around 14 days before travel and call for an urgent appointment. You can also call at 13 before travel too. This should get you an urgent appointment but you must provide proof of travel and since is the minor video both parents need to be there unless one can provide you with a notarized DS-3053. You can also do Life of Death if you have an immediate family member or spouse that has died or is really sick. Life or Death appointments require proof of life or death as well as proof of travel.
    Hope this helps.

    I’m a U.S. citizen. My partner is a Philippine national. We have a 2-year-old child. We are not married. We plan to get married in a few years but need the child’s passport for a vacation planned 6 months from now. My partner and child live in the Philippines and I travel to be with them whenever I can. We plan on applying for the child’s US passport in Manila. I think we have all the documentation together for an unmarried couple with a child.
    The only question I have is what questions will be asked at the passport appointment. No worries about most questions. But my partner freaks out at the slightest mention of any past relationships I’ve had. As a result, I have not told her I’m divorced (20 years ago, no kids from that marriage, no contact with my ex.) The only thing I fear is a question at the child passport appointment about any previous marriages either partner may have had. Do they ever ask about that at interviews for child passports?

    So my children don’t have to have US citizenship to apply for passports?

    • @michaelhorgan9525
      @michaelhorgan9525 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Once you have Naturalized, then your kids automatically derive citizenship from their parent(s). Read up on INA 320 and the Child Citizenship Act of 2000. You can also apply for their N-600 which is the equivalent of a Naturalization certificate but it is easier and a good idea to get their passports first then the N-600. Passports are quicker to apply and are cheaper than the N-600 which can only be applied once (can be appealed but pricey). This is what the state department says.
      Only children residing in the United States are eligible to automatically acquire U.S. citizenship under Section 320 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. If your child automatically acquired U.S. citizenship, you may apply for the child's certificate of citizenship from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) or apply for a U.S. passport. If your child has not obtained a certificate of citizenship, you will need to present the following when applying for your child's U.S. passport:
      Proof of the child’s relationship to the U.S. citizen parent. For the biological child of a U.S. citizen, this generally will be a certified copy of the foreign birth certificate (and a translation if the birth certificate is not in English). For an adopted child, you must submit a certified copy of the final adoption decree (and a translation if the decree is not in English);
      Proof the child is admitted as a lawful permanent resident, such as the child’s foreign passport with a I-551 stamp, or the child's permanent resident card (green card);
      Proof of identity and citizenship of the U.S. citizen parent(s);
      Evidence the child is residing in the United States in the legal and physical custody of the U.S. citizen parent;
      Completed Form DS-11 and supporting documents.
      If your child obtained a certificate of citizenship from USCIS, you must submit it with your child’s passport application as proof of citizenship.

      State Department uses untracked first class mail for supporting documents. US birth certificates are easily replaced but I guess the cost of using tracked mail outweighs the benefits of a tracked shipping product such as priority mail. I guess those with naturalization certificates can fill out a form to get reimbursed so they can fill out N-565.

      More or less the same but you would apply at the embassy or consulate. You would use a CRBA, us birth certificate (if born in the US), previous passport or certificate of citizenship to apply for one. If one parent cannot make it then you need to provide a signed and notarized DS-3053.

      Submit a Statement of Consent: Form DS-3053 or a notarized statement from both parents or guardians giving that person (example: grandparent) permission to apply for the child.
      Include a photocopy of the photo IDs for both parents or guardians.
      If the statement is from only one parent or guardian, you must also show proof that that parent or guardian has sole custody of the child.
      This is what the state department says if both parents cannot make it.

      Parents do not normally include their birth certificates but they would need ID. You would need to provide your child's birth certificate, naturalization certificate, certificate of citizenship or CRBA. Though there is also the INA 320 method for derived children of naturalized parents that have not gotten them a certificate of citizenship.

    What if someone is applying for fee waiver. Does that include the post office option as well?

    • @michaelhorgan9525
      @michaelhorgan9525 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe there are only fee waivers for either military or for natural disasters. No regular fee waiver for those who cannot afford the fees.

      Fee waiver would need to be done at the military base.

    Can you just bring either a non US birth certificate or the naturalization certificate?

    • @michaelhorgan9525
      @michaelhorgan9525 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a Non US birth certificate that would need to be accompanied by a Naturalization certificate along with other documents proving that the child is in the custody of a US citizen parent(s).
      travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/Intercountry-Adoption/adopt_ref/adoption-FAQs/child-citizenship-act-of-2000.html
      Only children residing in the United States are eligible to automatically acquire U.S. citizenship under Section 320 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. If your child automatically acquired U.S. citizenship pursuant to this Section, he or she may obtain a certificate of citizenship from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) or apply for a U.S. passport from the U.S. Department of State. If your child has not obtained a certificate of citizenship, you will need to present the following when applying for your child's U.S. passport:
      Proof of the child’s relationship to the U.S. citizen parent. For the biological child of a U.S. citizen, this generally will be a certified copy of the foreign birth certificate (and a translation if the birth certificate is not in English). For an adopted child, you must submit a certified copy of the final adoption decree (and a translation if the decree is not in English);
      Proof the child is admitted as a lawful permanent resident, such as the child’s foreign passport with a I-551 stamp, or the child's permanent resident card (green card);
      Proof of identity and citizenship of the U.S. citizen parent(s);
      Evidence the child is residing in the United States in the legal and physical custody of the U.S. citizen parent;
      Completed Form DS-11 and supporting documents.
      If your child obtained a certificate of citizenship from USCIS, you must submit it with your child’s passport application as proof of citizenship.

    Hi …. Can you plz help what shall I do in baby signature section , like do I need to take left thumb or right thumb impression as signature???

    • @michaelhorgan9525
      @michaelhorgan9525 ปีที่แล้ว

      On a passport for a child under 16, a parent should print the child's full name on the signature line. The parent should also sign their name next to the printed name of their child, and note their relation to their child (example: mother, father, or guardian).
      This is what the State Department says about this particular topic. No you do not need to go over the top by using impressions as those are not accepted.

    • @michaelhorgan9525
      @michaelhorgan9525 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You would normally use what is on the birth certificate but you can use a more current name if you have proof of name change via court order or amended birth cert. Make sure you write down any previous names and the parental information you would also copy what is on the birth certificate.

    If I want to change my child’s last name as I changed at the time of naturalization, should I change it through court order or just put the name I want on child’s passport application?

    • @michaelhorgan9525

      For derived citizens you would need a court order as they would want proof of name change. Check with your court and state on how to change your child's name as each state is different.
