    Very helpful, Litter Robot costs way more than the Scooper in Australia, so it was great to see comparisons and see they perform pretty similarly, I'd been eyeing off the litter robot for a few months, but this has swayed me to pull the trigger on getting the scooper!

      I'm also in Australia and was just about to pay the $850 for the litter robot when I came across this review. Definitely getting the Scooper now since its around half the price here. I found the liners for $25AU on Amazon for a 40 pack which doesn't seem that unreasonable.

      Hi Andrea! Happy to help! I've been using the CatLink unit shown in this video for about a year and it has performed well. After the video was done, I left both units set up in my laundry room. It was overkill, but I had them already! The Litter-Robot 3 and the CatLink Scooper Young have both done a good job over the past year. I think the Litter-Robot 3 may have greater longevity, but that's just a guess. The CatLink Scooper is still working great.
      Are you a CatLink Scooper owner?

    The weight sensor on the Catlink seems prone to failure - my first one failed after around 5 months. The warranty service sent a new base to replace it. The new one worked for around 4 months before failing again. This means it fails to detect my cat, and no longer triggers automatically. I can trigger it manually from the app or the panel and that still works, but it is quite frustrating. This seems to be a relatively common failure since on Facebook this is the main complaint about the product, and Catlink has posted a video on how to replace their weight sensor.

    • @trentseibel
      @trentseibel ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It failed for me also. That being said, I have it automatically go every hour instead, and that does just fine. If I smell something bc the cat just went, I just hit the play button and manually start it.
      Sucks that auto function isn't working BUT also works fine using the timer. So not a huge deal.

      Hi Andrew and Trent! Sorry for being slow to respond...I was on vacation. So, I've been using the Litter-Robot 3 and the CatLink Scooper Young side by side for the past year for 2 cats and haven't had any issues with the CatLink Scooper Young...weight sensor or anything else. But I guess you could say that it hasn't been getting very heavy use (effectively one full time cat).
      If I had to guess, I'd say that the Litter-Robot 3 is probably a more robust machine and may last longer over time, but it is also louder, has a higher minimum weight limit, and lacks the ability to be used with the super useful litter catching Step that CatLink has as an optional purchase...

    Thank you for such an in depth review. I was looking at the scooper young because it can use tofu pellet litter. Our cats currently use pine pellets and I think it’d be easier to transition to tofu pellets. I didn’t want to use clay litter with the litter robot and I’ve heard using nonclay litter voids the warranty

    • @TheTechReviewer
      @TheTechReviewer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Litter-Robot is not designed to work with tofu litter, unfortunately. The CatLink litter boxes will work with tofu litter, but you may have to switch out the litter grates…the model I was given came with two…a smaller holed one for clay litter and a larger holed one for tofu litter. My cats are used to clumping clay litter, so I never tried the tofu litter with it…

  • @cattipat

    I've had a Litter Robot 3 for nearly 4 years. I've used it with four cats. During that time I ended up having to replace two sensors, the entire base, and the circuit board behind the buttons. Now the globe doesn't rotate smoothly in the base, it moves up and down out of its track during cleaning cycles. This sometimes causes the cycle to stop, and the only way I can fix it is to physically unplug the litter box and plug it back in. Pressing the power button has no effect. On average I had to unplug/plug it back in several times per day, before I got a second litter box. But to be honest, no automatic litter box will last forever with four cats, especially since one of them weighs close to 20 lb.
    So a few days ago I bought a Catlink Luxury Pro from Amazon Canada. I found that the Pro was several hundred dollars cheaper than the standard model, because the standard model was shipped from the US and the Luxury Pro was shipped next day from Amazon in Canada. I almost bought the standard model, thinking it was the higher end model because of the price. So if you're buying one from Amazon make sure you check where it's shipped from.
    Re the Catlink app, it's not available everywhere yet, at least not for Android. It's available for iOS. I couldn't find it on the Play Store, so I contacted Catlink. They responded within 24 hours and told me it should be available in a couple of weeks. I ended up going to an APK download site and downloading the Catlink APK to install on my phone. The app allows you to do almost everything you can do with the buttons, and to track your cats' usage of the litter box. It shows you if there's enough litter in the box and if the drawer needs to be emptied. You can create accounts for each of your cats, including adding a photo if you wish. First you have to take note of who's using the litter box and how much they weigh (from the app notifications), then you set up a cat account and include the weight. After that it recognizes each cat by its weight. I've already learned from the app that two of my cats are refusing to use the new box. If you're like me and have old cats (mine are all over age 10) it's handy to be able to monitor their weights and bathroom habits, for example to check for diabetes or kidney issues.
    The Luxury Pro is extremely quiet while it runs its cycle. Mine is located only a few feet from my recliner and I can't hear it at all. I rely on the app notifications to see if it's being used.
    I think my two cats don't want to use the new box because the opening is up high. They're used to the step on the Litter Robot 3. I want to buy the Catlink ramp, but it's expensive and I want to test the Luxury Pro for a while first. Urine leakage is my only concern about the Luxury Pro. It seems to have a good barrier on the opening, but I have a cat who dribbles urine on both sides of the LR 3 rubber barrier, and I want to make sure I won't end up with a mess like with a previous box I returned. The Litter Robot 3 has an ingenious rubber barrier which directs any urine leakage back into the globe, and any spilled litter falls back into the globe during the cleaning cycle. I didn't upgrade to the LR 4 because there have been complaints about its inferior barrier.

    • @TheTechReviewer
      @TheTechReviewer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Cattipat! You have had a lot of experience with automatic litter boxes! First, on the Litter-Robot 3: I've never used it with more than 2 cats, so 4 cats is pretty much double duty. With my current Litter-Robot 3 unit, I'm on year 4, but part of the time I have had other litter boxes in use, like this CatLink unit. And, of course, fewer cats. So definitely an easier life for it than your unit. I've never had to have any parts replaced other than a defective bonnet initially, but I did find it very helpful to get into the habit of taking the unit apart every few months to vacuum the base, clean the contacts where the bonnet attaches to the base and put a little pledge furniture polish along the track of the globe. It makes a a big difference in the smooth operation of the unit. As for urine leakage, I've been fortunate to have kitties who don't use the litter box in such a way to cause that issue, so no experience in that area.
      Did you have to replace the circuit board because of urine leakage? What about the sensors and the base?
      As for the CatLink Luxury Pro, I am quite familiar with it. I got a Luxury Pro from CatLink right before I got the standard unit reviewed in the video, and there certainly are a lot of bells and whistles! And it is amazingly quiet. As far as the App is concerned, at least with the Luxury Pro I had, you had the option of putting collars with special RFID tags on your cats and that would provide a more foolproof method than weight to tell who is using the litter box at what time. Definitely some cool tracking info. I believe the new Litter-Robot 4, which I don't have any experience with, has many of the same features. I hope your information about the urine barrier is incorrect...it would be unfortunate if they had decided to remove that feature.
      And on the subject of the CatLink Ramp...It seems really high priced for a piece of plastic with no electronics, even considering the fact that you are paying for shipping the huge box it comes in. But...it is very well designed, has a good weight to it, so it is stable for the cats to use, and the little holes on the top do a great job of reducing litter tracking. My cats really like it, as well. They seem to enjoy sitting on it, and it provides excellent, easy access to the CatLink machine. Litter-Robot sells some steps for its units, and although I've never used them, I have heard some negative comments about their stability and overall usability.
      Thanks so much for sharing your CatLink Luxury Pro and Litter-Robot 3 experiences!

      You are right...they are not cheap. It's a big decision. So, I've only seen the PetKit Pura Max at someone's house, and in stores. I've never reviewed it or had any cats that used it. The design is interesting, but the materials feel cheaper and lighter weight than the CatLink Scooper Young or the Litter Robot 3 Connect. Between the CatLink unit and the Litter-Robot, I would tend to choose the Litter-Robot because the company has an excellent track record. They've been in the automatic litter box business for a long time, and they have very knowledgeable customer service. I personally have used Litter-Robot machines for years...I started off with a Litter-Robot 2 and then graduated eventually to the Litter-Robot 3. There is now even a Litter-Robot 4, which I unfortunately haven't gotten a chance to review, but it looks really cool. Lots of features. Anyway, my Litter-Robot machines have lasted very well...I think they are quality products. My current Litter-Robot 3 has been in operation since 2019 and is still working perfectly.
      CatLink products also seem very good, but I have less experience with them. And the company hasn't been doing automatic litter boxes nearly as long. As long as there isn't a massive difference in price, I would advise you to go with a Litter-Robot model. Good luck!! And thanks for watching!!

It has a UV cleaning cycle for the waste drawer as well as some additional sensors, and it can be connected to your phone via wifi, so you can get access to tons of data on your cat's litter box usage. I love the Step…it really helps with litter tracking. And the cats seem to like being on it. I‘ve had 2 sets of cats use the CatLink Scooper and Litter-Robot 3 combo: the first ones (pictured in the review) were quite small in size. They appeared to use the CatLink and Litter-Robot units equally frequently (They were foster cats that finally got reunited with their owner). Then the second set of cats that have used both units are a pair of extra large foster cats (14 pounds!). They seem to like both units, but tend to use the Litter-Robot more…probably because of its larger interior space.

    • @TheTechReviewer
      @TheTechReviewer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Hi Chelsy! I still have the two units in my laundry room, side by side, as they were in the video. My two kitties use the two pretty much equally, with a bit of a bias in favor of the CatLink…I think because they like the step in front of it. The step is overpriced in my opinion (probably because they are adding the shipping cost in there), but it is really nicely made, the cats love it, and it seriously cuts down on litter tracking.
      The CatLink has given me zero problems so far. I do unplug it when I change the waste bag and add more litter…I think this gives the machine a chance to recalibrate . I do this every 6 days or so, with 2 cats and 2 automatic litter boxes (CatLink Scooper Young and Litter-Robot 3 Connect). I could certainly go longer-there is plenty of space in the waste drawers of the two machines-but I start to notice an odor after 6 days.
      A few days ago, I took both machines apart for a more in depth cleaning. I didn’t clean the globe interiors (where the litter is)-they didn’t need it. What I did was simply vacuum up the litter dust which had accumulated along the track that the globe rotates in. It’s very simple and easy, and not an icky or smelly chore by any means, but it helps maintain the smooth working of the device. This is the first time that I had done this for the CatLink machine, and I was pleased to see that when I opened it up, there was minimal litter dust inside and everything looked in good order. I made a video doing this cleaning routine with the Litter-Robot a while back, which I’m going to publish in a few days. The same cleaning process basically applies to both machines.
      Overall, I’m quite pleased with the CatLink Scooper Young. I do think that Litter-Robot has a longer track record and their US based customer service is a major plus, but I can’t complain about the operation of the CatLink machine. It has been flawless. Hope this helps! And if you decide on the CatLink machine, please consider using the Amazon affiliate link in my video 😊

      Actually, on the waste bag front, I discovered after the review was published that it is possible to use what is termed in the US as ‘tall kitchen garbage bags’ (not sure what country you are in). You can slip the bag over the whole front of the waste drawer and secure it over the two notches and it works fine. I have catlink and it isn't bad. There is a setting for emptying the unit which dumps all the litter. It stays flipped until you manually tell it to go back to normal. So you can wipe the floor while it's in the ceiling position. I use Clorox wipes and let it dry. Then I put it back to normal position but hitting the button and refill it.
      It's pretty easy.

    • @TheTechReviewer
      @TheTechReviewer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jezza! As long as you maintain the right amount of litter in the machine (too little and things start to stick), the inside of the globe really doesn't need to be cleaned very often. I do spot cleaning occasionally, but only empty out the litter and clean the inside of the globe rarely. Like Trent said, you can do an emptying cycle and then clean the globe at that point, when it is more conveniently positioned and litter free. But, with two cats using the 2 machines in this review (the Litter-Robot 3 and the CatLink Scooper Young), I haven't done a full globe cleaning in the past year. And I haven't needed to. The units are in a pretty prominent place...in the laundry room right off the kitchen...and as long as the waste bags are emptied every 4 days or so, they really don't smell.

    I saw a conversation on Reddit about issues people were having with the Litter Robot 4 (not this one you're reviewing). Due to the 4 coming out recently, they said the customer service has been terrible in trying to get help with the 4's issues (usually litter robot customer service is great). The price is around $700 (yikes). Now I'm wondering if I should just get the Litter Robot 3, or the catlink.
    Also, my kitty is 16 yrs old and has arthritis, so he'd have trouble getting in a box that's high up. Not sure about the litter robot, but w the step, the catlink looks like it would be okay. Also I love the litter catching feature of the step. Any advice greatly appreciated as it's a big purchase.

    • @TheTechReviewer
      @TheTechReviewer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Helene! So, I just took a look at the Litter-Robot 3 and the CatLink Scooper side by side and there really isn't a difference in height between the small built in step at the front of the Litter-Robot 3 and the height of the CatLink step. (Without the step, the entrance to the CatLink Scooper is a bit daunting). However, for a cat with mobility issues, the step is probably going to feel more stable and comfortable because is it so much larger. And the litter catching works really well. Cats really like it too...my cats just like to sit there. Overall, I thought the step was serious value added, but keep in mind that it increases the footprint of the CatLink significantly. And it's quite expensive as well.
      So, which to choose? Tough call. In your situation, there are aspects of the CatLink which tend to tip the scale in their direction. However, CatLink is new to this field, whereas Litter-Robot has been doing this for a long time, and customer support and warranty are important things to take into consideration. I’m sorry to hear that there have been issues with their customer service with the new Litter-Robot 4 because they typically have excellent customer service. All US based, and very knowledgeable. Keep in mind as well that not everything you see online is true. There is a lot of competition right now in the automatic litter box segment and conversations like that on reddit could be placed there by trolls trying to discredit the competition. Or not! I really have no idea. I'm currently living in China due to my husband's job here and because of that, Litter-Robot was unable to get a review unit of the new Litter-Robot 4 to me, so I don't have any feedback on that model. I know that the Litter-Robot 3 is quite a good product. And I liked the Litter-Robot 2, its predecessor, quite a lot as well. I’ve used Litter-Robot products for over 10 years. Litter-Robot is a company that made its name by having an innovative product that was high quality, with great customer service. That's hard to maintain over time, especially during the pandemic, and it's possible things have changed somewhat. In my experience, I can definitely recommend the Litter-Robot 3 in terms of quality and durability. I’ve used Litter-Robot for a much longer time, so I can speak to their quality with greater authority.
      Finally, for either product, keep in mind that you need to maintain it properly in order to get good results. Hope this helps, and good luck with your decision!

      @@TheTechReviewer Thank you for taking so much time to reply. I really appreciate it. I went ahead and purchased the litter robot 3 and I got the extended warranty. I'm not sure if it's worth it to get the warranty but if it poops out after 2 years and you have to buy a whole new litter system it gets quite expensive. So I'm taking the gamble and paying extra. Still cheaper than the catlink. Although I really did like that little step feature! The reddit thread seemed legit, people were helping each other and some of them said by doing what others told them seemed to resolve some of the issues. Since it's new and still has bugs, I figured I'd get the 3, I don't really care about all the bells and whistles anyway. I'm moving to a new apartment and finally have space to have an automatic litter box, really hoping it works out, I'll let you know. I did use the link you provided but I'm not sure if I got the $25 off or not. I'll call them in the morning to find out. Thanks again for all your help!

      @@TheTechReviewer actually I just looked at my order confirmation and even w the warranty it was just under $625. There was a $75 discount. ?? Have no idea why it's $75 off bc it didn't say anything about a discount except when I clicked your link, the website was offering that automatic $25 off 🤷🏻‍♀️.

      Glad you got the extra discount...must be something for the holidays?? No idea! I really hope the Litter-Robot 3 works out for you. I think the Litter-Robot 4 seems interesting, but too many bells and whistles can just add too much complexity sometimes. As far as litter tracking is concerned, I just usually put a small lightweight rug in front of the machine (a bathmat works well) and it catches most of the litter. Also, as I think I mentioned in my earlier reply, you should plan to do basic cleaning on the Litter-Robot every month or so to keep it running in tip top shape. I made a simple video on it...you might want to check it out: th-cam.com/video/Q10rr3JjVvc/w-d-xo.html It takes around 10 minutes, tops, and is very non- icky. Just some basic vacuuming of the area where the rotating globe connects with the base. Over time, small amounts of litter dust can build up there and affect the globe rotation.
      My very first Litter-Robot was a gift from a neighbor who had bought one used at a garage sale and then never ended up using it. I cleaned it up, put it in my laundry room and never looked back. When that one eventually wore out, I was happy to shell out the cash for a new one because I knew what a useful product it was. I was a happy Litter-Robot user far before I got into product reviewing...it is truly one of my favorite products.
      Be sure to follow the instructions from Litter-Robot about how to get your cat used to the device. I think it is particularly important that they get completely comfortable using it as their main litter box before they ever see it in cleaning mode, rotating around. I think I waited at least 3 weeks with my cats before having it in automatic mode. I just kept it turned off, and then once or twice a day, turned it on manually when the cats weren't in the room so it would do a cleaning cycle.
      Good luck! Hope you (and your kitty!) love it!

      Hi Anton! I don’t have any direct experience with Petkit, although I’ve heard of it. So, because I do have experience with CatLink, and I think they have a good product, I’d choose CatLink. Although overall, I still think Litter-Robot is a superior product.

      Hi @Kellythelegend! Nice to hear from you! I'm a huge fan of automatic self cleaning litter boxes...starting in 2011 or 2012, I got my first one (a used, previous generation Litter-Robot), and I haven't looked back. They are such a game changer for the indoor cat owner! Because of the pandemic, I had to live away from home for around 6 months during 2020 and my cats had to use a regular litter box during that time, because their Litter-Robot 3 was far, far away. I absolutely hated cleaning that thing, and cursed it almost daily. If you can swing the cost of an automatic litter box like the Litter-Robot 3 or the CatLink Scooper (and they cost less than most iPhones!), then I think it is absolutely worth it.

      Really sorry to hear you are having difficulties! I've never tried using my CatLink (or my Litter Robot) with more than 2 cats. I think that the manufacturers typically recommend 2 to 3 cats per unit. Have you considered getting a second unit?

    Is there a reason why you switched from the Luxury Pro to the Young? I'm looking at the Luxury Pro because it tracks multiple cats. Does it also record their weight on the app?

    • @TheTechReviewer
      @TheTechReviewer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! So, CatLink sent me out the Luxury Pro first. I was impressed by the product overall, but the focus of my video was in comparing the Catlink unit to the Litter-Robot 3. The CatLink Luxury Pro is not a very comparable product with the Litter-Robot 3 (it is best to compare it with the Litter-Robot 4, which has many more bells and whistles), so I asked CatLink to send me the Scooper Young.
      Looking at the App, it appears that the Luxury Pro will indeed update your cat's weight based on its litter box usage. When I was testing it out, before I switched to using the Scooper Young, CatLink had sent me out collars with RFID tags and the system used the collars as a way to differentiate among the cats, although it was using weight data as well, I believe.

    So silly these things.
    A toy is not a sticky smudge of poop or pee stuck to the plastic. And talk about making your cat neurotic.
    And does a person really know how much a cat should drink? Tech for tech is no real help. And just makes everyone neurotic.
