Well its bluefin time again! thanks Capt Dave for the great advise! I watched this video last year and landed 8 bluefin from 90 to 150 lbs exactly like the captain explained. my buddies and fellow fishermen in so cal and out of Bodega (we caught two 150's up north) that thought they would fight these fish drifting were about 20% on landing fish. I have a 28 Steigercraft with twin 250 Mercurys...it costs a couple thousand dollars for a weekend of bluefin fishing. not interested in loosing them after a 3 hour fight when i can land them in under 20. this also allows us to get back on the fish while they are still on the surface! Nobody but you guys that fish at the computer gives a shit how i catch the fish, only i do!

Do you ever spike the fish to quite him down? If that little moment before you take the gaff out and it goes nuts seems IF it's that calm would be the time. Yeah I know when things are busy on the deck it might be hard but what do you do? Great advise as always.

I think rail fishing on a dead boat is a much fairer fight for the fish. A huge coffee can on a broomstick stuck in the rod holder is just a winch. I think the fisherman should be completely taxed and broken at the end since the creature is giving its live. Jmo

Fighting on the rail with no harness on a dead boat is much harder. Especially on 40 lb leader, and a private boat with 130 lb string it’s way easier . Leaving it in the rod holder is not fighting a fish. Jmo
