Grice/Percy finishing 2nd after spinning in a car that didn't have the benefit of a turbo in the cooler temps or aero grip compared to the VL walkinshaw they won with the year before was quite an achievement, especially with so few if any safety cars to help them claw their way back.. probably could've won it if not for the spin but hey - should've would've could've 🤷♂️
I'm not trying to Put anyone down, but an all wheel drive across the Mountain was never going to lose. In my view, it was a gimmick and the true Fans saw it for what it was. When it became a true Holden V Ford contest, interest in our Brand of Motorsport went through the roof, and that should still send a message to the new series of competitors, Mercs, Nissans and I believe Toyota is considering entering the comp too. I don't mind the competition, as long as it's fair, that is my point, thanks

While i think the GTR's were awesome in their day (hell the Rb26DETT is still a awesome engine today 23 years later!) They were just so much better than the competition that if they didn't crash they were going to win. I mean down the straight they had 16kph more top end, more grip, better punch from the corners, better aero, better electronics. Just better everything. Having said that today the V8Supercars is just as dull (allthough better still dull). Classes Like Gt3 have it right, 6 different makes, all strong cars in different area's
Group A wasn't about being a level playing field don't be so closed mined, Group A rules got written and like F1 was upto each car company to make a car to those rules.First to DOMINATE was fords super turbo Sierra RS500 and it dominated everywhere. Nissan took those rules and built simply the best Group A race car ever. so good they banned it in Aus in Favor of V8 Dinosours Taxi's. Then remember Super tourer took over and Audi did the same built a 4x4 Killer and yep got banned too. Reality is it isn't the car its the budget. Simple! Gibson Winfield team was just as dominte in early V8s as they did in Nissan's. Watch 94 season lol. As still fact today in V8 dinosor land Triple 8 has best budget by far and 5 titles for J-Dub and 4 Bathurst.
PJ Dunham I agree. Group A was about manufacturers making the best platform to use for modified road-car racing. The GT-R was purpose built to be a road car that performed very well on the track. Of course it also comes down to money and talent as well. The winning teams seemed to have a bit of both.
Only thing worse than this was 88-89 when the series was basically a one make rs500 show, but of course the Aussie bogans didn’t care about that because of the badge on the car. It’s 2021 and nothing has changed…
